I remember the hype for this album that never came then we were issued with RCM.. i remember sitting down, plugging in the earphones in my uni room and wondering what the hell I was listening to.
It really isn't just about Andy or Warren or whomever is playing guitar @ any given point. It is about the energy the whole band had @ that point and like they said, this was coming off touring and they had a feel to it all. I wish like HELL I could hear those full songs. I want to know what lyrics Simon was inspired to write for that album. I really hope this "lost" album gets released. If for no other reason than as a gift to fans.
Dammit I want Reportage! REPORTAGE, man! It's too bloody bad that they didn't put this album out. I read in the book by Andy, "Wild Boy: My Life In Duran Duran" that they were always held back because Simon was extremely defensive about everything thrown to him, Nick was fed up with Simon because apparently Simon stopped listening to him, and John was annoyingly trying to suddenly be the producer and it held things back so badly. Due to this, the demos were badly undercompleted once sent. Sad...
Seriously! They should get Youth (The Producer) and have the other members work on their parts of this album, then have Youth fly to Ibiza and freakin work with Andy separately (if they can't still work together) and have him lay his part in the last. I mean Guitar usually is one of the last parts put in musically anyway, right???? Frak dude. I didn't hate Red Carpet Massacre. I quite like it actually but I wanna hear this album! I believe it when they say it was better.
I would give up my left arm to be sequestered with 3 Taylors & a Le Bon. Nick would also have to be there & say "thick & lush" for it to be worth the entire arm... ;-)
Just to clarify, I don't think that lack of chart success means a record can't be great - Medazzaland and Pop Trash are both ignored masterpieces. Hell, I even love Thank You. Always have. I'm not 100% for AT and against the rest of the band either. I'd post more of the things I don't like about the handling of AT, but I'm sure it would just get deleted again. ps Do you work for the band? No offense, but it seems like you want to keep everything sounding like a corporate press release...
What happened between Nick and Andy? Did it sink Reportage? They won't answer. I would like to think that they will release this album...at some point and time.
Well, since my comment was deleted, I'll just stick with my personal opinion. Working with Timbaland/Timberlake seemed like a desperate attempt to become "chart relevant" again in the US...but it didn't work, did it? So how exactly was that better than what Reportage might have brought to the table?
Perhaps we didn't get to hear 'Reportage', but we got the masterpiece that was 'All You Need Is Now', so it's swings and roundabouts really. Besides, this album sounds like it would have just been 'Astronaut 2' and that wouldn't interest me to be quite honest.
jtirby you have no love for D2!! Andy is what made DD the act that they are and for him to just have a complete and total fit and leave because he didn't like the direction that the music was going in was idiotic to say the least.
