I live 9 miles from Durham and enjoy walking around it when I can. Unfortunately, due to the way things are right now, I haven't been able to visit for over a year. Your walk has allowed me to visit virtually, so thank you.

Darlington's a great place and so is Durham! The history in both is absolutely fascinating, although the grandeur of Durham Cathedral and the River Wear is certainly one of my favourite views in the entire country :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!

Durham is one of my favourite places in the world - I try and go for a holiday every year, and have just got back from a week there. I usually stay in one of the College's Halls of Residence - can be a bit basic, but is cheap and right in the centre of the city... so, for the Harry Potter fans, it's possible to stay in the Castle for Bed and Breakfast and get the full experience (just so long as it is out of term time!). It was lovely to walk around with you on this trip - thank you.

You're welcome! And thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video - you're very lucky to visit Durham so often, and staying so central in the city must be a wonderful way to holiday :)

I was a law student back in 2002-2004. Besides some of the stores changing hands, not much else is different. The McDonald's and Pizza Hut on the Bailey is gone. I think some of the pubs have changed hands but, it still looks the same for the most part. I was at Hild Bede so I was further up the hill to the east. Durham was and still remains one my favorite cities. I wouldn't mind moving back after I retire. Good times, good memories.

An incredible, scenic city with a rich history.It's been many, many years since I last visited. Rather a distance to travel, (from M/Boro), just for a night on the tiles but as I ended up being invited to a house party, some total stranger in a pub, the night on the tiles became a two nighter, lol. I felt a tad out of my depth as most of the guests were either undergrads or university staff whereas I barely managed 5 O'Levels, haha. But alcohol's a great leveler. Another fine upload, sir.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Durham is probably one of the most scenic cities in the world, especially in autumn when the trees on the banks of the Wear are full of colour :) Indeed it can be a bit of a way to travel to, but adventures like yours that night (or those two nights) are always worth the journey! Thank you so much for watching and commenting as always - it's great to hear from you!

Another fantastical and beautiful French Norman county in Britain - brimminging with historical character - why the Romans never got their hands on it successfully. It also has a rich Viking ancestry and homestead - fertile lands in the plenty is very real example of this.

What a beautiful city. On my list. Wasn't Peter Ustinov once the chancellor of the university? My favourite author, Bill Bryson took over when he died, I believe. This is probably ancient history now.

One of the most beautiful cities in the world! Especially with those stunning autumn leaves I was lucky to see, there are some of the very best views in Britain in Durham :) Mr. Ustinov was indeed the Chancellor, and I'm a Bill Bryson fan too! Of course that's very modern history by Durham's very long standards! Thank you very much for watching and commenting as always - I'm always delighted to hear your thoughts on places around the UK!

You should have carried on past the shire hall to the Dun Cow pub in an old building right next door to a boutique hotel, which was the former masonic hall, another fantastic piece of architecture. Over the road is Durham prison again in an interesting building and just a few steps beyond,the racecourse where the Miners' Gala assembled and Ian Botham played cricket for Durham County in the 90's. I grew up there but now live in Manchester.Used to watch bands such as The Who and Jethro Tull in the Students Union in the 60's. An interesting and well researched video.Thanks.

@@LetsWalkUK It's a great place to work, and watching this, it is nice to take a 'slo mo' approach to this long-familiar route. If anyone in Durham wants a tip for some really stunning views, go up that street at 0:31 and walk that way toward the University. Some breathtaking views.

I am very impressed about the Durham Cathedral and when i going down the little small streets , i am often thinking to be in a Harry Potter Movie and searching for the little Magic Shop from Dumbledore , it is just amazing to be in this City , and i want to ask , if the Palace Green was the Place where Harry Potter and his friends was playing this Snatch Game and however this game would be calling ? I have so much memories from my visit in Durham i would never missed !

It might interest you to know that the walk across that bridge and into the marketplace if flowed by exit down the other bridge. (Elve) was once part of the Great North Road between London and Edinburgh.

Do people support Newcastle or Sunderland in Durham Whats the majority😂
@LetsWalkUK
@LetsWalkUK 3 года назад
Great question! I have to say that my answer is a rather helpful 'I'm not too sure', but a little bit of research suggests to be that Newcastle have a bit of a bigger following across County Durham than Sunderland :) I'm not a Durham local though - so if anybody is a local and knows the answer, please do let us know!

Historically Sunderland. Before county boundary changes &the invention of Tyne & Wear in the 1970’s, Sunderland was in County Durham, which stretched to the South shore of the Tyne. North of the Tyne was Northumberland. So, both Gateshead & Sunderland were in County Durham. Also of course, Durham is on the Wear, like Sunderland.
@blotski
@blotski 2 года назад
@@karengray662 I agree with that. I was born in Durham and my family in Meadowfield and Brandon were mostly Sunderland supporters. I later lived in Hebburn which at the time was Co Durham.
