I've become fascinated by the blues since I started playing guitar, both technique, theory and history (I'm a heavy metal guy). I've learned a lot of shuffle approaches, but using the open D string on the G shuffle, never seen anyone doing that before. Yet it's so simple. I also finally figured out a lot of turnarounds start root to flat 7, then do the walk down. For whatever reason, that tidbit of knowledge has really helped me grab different walk downs on the fly. By the way "Beyond the Crossroads" by Adam Gussow is a fascinating look at the blues and how it both shaped and was shaped by the American South during the "Jim Crow" era.

Love the G and open D string part, then utilizing the E on the D string for the G part of the shuffle. Very clever Erich, and it keeps the whole progression close too. Learned something new today. Thank you, my friend.

Hey Erich, I think you were picking the B string?…. You didn’t say. Love the lesson from one of the original blues masters. I vote for your choice from Muddy Waters or John Lee Hooker. More people should be aware of those guys and the work they put in pioneering for the rest of us.
