Dustin is great fighter but lets be real, his takedown defence was always problem. Eddie alvarez basically was about to finish the job multiple times and his strange illegal blows cost his dominant position multiple times. Little details worked perfectly for dustin in his lw run. No one gave Oliveira much of a chance. But if you watched the Poirier vs. Kabib fight, Dustin could not handle all the different submission skills. It frustrated him. And that’s exactly why Oliveira should never have been doubted. What’s more, the champ even outboxed a power guy like Chandler. He’s the real deal and one of the nicest guys in combat sports. Congrats to him. I do like Poirier, too. I’d love to see him win eventually, but I was rooting for Charles.

Chandler made the mistake of keeping his hands down following his strikes on Charles and got caught by a hard left. Chandler is a power striker but his game is sloppy at times.

@@jackdunn5147 Agree. Chandler was even more sloppy and flat out dumb and quit anything even resembling basic boxing fundamentals in the Justin fight. It's why I think he is being two-faced calling out Dustin as a quitter for being submitted. Chandler quit his defense and totally blew his shot at making it hard for the judges. He made losing look easy.

I would love to have seen a Khabib Oliviera in its prime. I have the feeling that these fighters who know how to throw their opponents to the ground start with a certain advantage even though the opponent's fists are stronger. Poirier is definitely too short with little kicks and resource to beat these guys.

I find it strange how Dustin's team didn't prepare for Oliveras grappling style. Like why did Dustin let him choke him while standing? You'd think he would have attempted to defend against someone mounting his back. Also in the 2nd he was just straight up trying to survive Olivera mounted on him, seems like he wasn't prepared for the grappling at all. I was routing for Dustin but Olivera out-grappled him by a long shot. This fight goes to show that even an elite striker like Dustin can be defeated by an elite grappler who isn't as honed in striking.

I'm sure they prepared a lot, but Oliveira is a different animal, especially in those kind of situations. There's little room for error, it's easy to prepare but very tough to be in those few split seconds of making a mistake like that.
