A 60s Classic... I sang it drunk in a bar in Ireland... Everyone laughed, the Band. and the girl I sang it for... I'm 71 and wherever you are Mary Hackett I will always love you. ❤️
It was the english cover version of the italian song Io che non vivo by Pino Donaggio (1965) , Dusty and Elvis made this song known to the entire world.....When I was in Dublin in 19070 as a student... at Sloopy's ...... How can forget !!! I met my wife there......
I used to sit in a bunker when I was in the Marines in Viet Nam standing guard at night I always hoped this song would play. I still love it. 53 years later
whark bro - you wouldn't want it on whilst on guard, would wake the night and then them little mother fkrs would come and - they'd stop - listen - and then either shoot you or whark off and buy the record
1966: I'm 14 years old, passing through puberty, getting interested in girls but very shy. Then I heard Dusty singing You Don't Have To say You Love me on the radio. Wow - I was totally awestruck and in love! The first 45 I ever bought. 1981: I'm 29 years old, married (still am to the same lovely girl), and starting to go deaf. I still listen to Dusty singing this, but not as often as I'd like to. 1999: 47 years old. I'm hard of hearing now, but when I heard of Dusty's death I went searching for my beloved 45. It's gone as has a lot of my music collection because of my deafness. 2006: 54 years old and very hard of hearing. I find a book and 4 CD collection named "Simply ... Dusty". I buy it like a shot. The old magic is still there, although the volume I need to listen to it properly gives me a headache. I listen to it as often as I can. 2020: 68 years old and hearing loss is severe. I stumble across this in You tube. I'm normally very dodgy about trying to listen to 40 year old clips - the quality is usually so poor and the volume so low it's impossible for me to understand. I give it a go anyway - and suddenly I'm back in 1966 - all the old magic is still there! I'll love you forever Dusty :-)
Stephen, Yes, Those were the days. . I so miss those days very much. Dusty had a voice of gold. I hope the music still plays in your memory and in your dreams. May God bless, protect you and I pray for a miracle that your hearing is restored. God bless you.
Oh my, Stephen. Your story made me cry. How very sweet and yet so sad. I pray that you'll get a miracle. You touched my heart. Dusty was one of the very best, may she RIP.
Dusty is one of the greatest artists ever. She was one of the reasons I started my first group in the 60s. I loved her so much and miss her terribly. ❤
They don't make women or singers like Dusty anymore. So sad she could never be her real self and she was never truly happy. I wish she could have lived to see herself on RU-vid and how many people truly love her. I being one of them. She had a voice of an angel and now she is with the angels. Love you Dusty
These days I'm feeling very nostalgic and am hearing all the beautiful songs from the 50s on to the 70s,reaching to a few from the 80s-90s... That was what one can call music....those were the real voices...once rap,hip hop,and this noisy and deafening to the ears music began,it's become really irritating insread of soothing!!! Thank God we can find beautiful music still recorded on RU-vid and other internet apps...
I remember when I first heard Dusty sing this, and was amazed by her voice. There is not one of today's "artists" who can hold a candle to this woman. My God, could this woman belt one out! There will never be another Dusty Springfield. Period.
Same here! My mom passed in July 2020 at 65. we both loved Dusty's timeless music and does bring new meaning. Hopefully these songs help us heal with the memories as well ^^
Elvis Presley sang this beautifully too. This is the first time I ever heard someone else sing it besides him. Would have loved to have see a duet of this with them
@@scidamenge Dusty was the first to recorded it in English in 1965. The original song was written in Italian the title is “Io Che non vivo (Senza te) they song reached no. 1 in UK, and no. 4 in USA. Elvis version was on 1970.
Not arguing with your sentiment... But there are amazing performers who can sing Live, like that: Trying for recognition every day. There may never be another Dusty Springfield: But that doesn't mean your appreciation of great singers has the stop with her... does it?
It's a full performance by the best lady singer the 60's . She emotes the song through her facial expressions & her hands, not only through her voice. Dusty Springfield was a natural, born to sing. Love her still.
Dusty Springfield was a great singer and sang a ballet great with her great voice, she's missed and died way to young of cancer, R.I.P. DUSTY you were a beautiful singer and person. 💔💔💔💔💔💔
True raw talent with no smoke and mirrors or dancers to distract from the actual performance like todays acts. Never to be duplicated in our lifetime......
A Dusty did not need mirrors, smoke and half naked bodies to perform because her lovely voice and personality was enough for the perfect performance. Love all her music.
I'm 18 old and I just found this beautiful song and I fall in love with Dusty Springfield already, I haven't been in love yet but this Lady sings amazing... Rest in peace.
Smart 18 year old! Her greatness is really revealed in all the songs her fans never heard. Seek them out & you're in for one hell of a beautiful ride.... She'll just get better with age.
This is one of my favourite songs, always reminds me of a beautiful sister in law who used to always sing at our get-together, and sang it so beautifully. r.i.p. Rita miss you so much but have so many beautiful memories.
I used to listen to Dusty I was quite young I think I was about maybe 17 I’m 75 now but well let me get back to 17 and she was one of my most favored. She had a voice that student my mind and she still sounds that way when I listen to her when she was older when she got older, there were other women that saying, but she is what’s on my mind now because I remember this memory I will never forget that the Springfield
I’ll never forget my childhood and the memories that I would have when when I hear her voice again, it’s like to escape to a time when and things were so much easier
Just wonderful.Real music and 'Dusty' ( who can actually sing and not scream) . Beautiful to watch as well. Wonderful music.Oh why can't we get this today.Cheers, John.
The voice of a generation. A beautiful moment in time. She was always special. I remember being so excited whenever the DJs from Motown would also play her songs!
Broke up with my boyfriend ( got dumped) and used to cry with that song so my mother would not know how much I hurt! Each time I hear the song it transports me back!
Dusty Springfield was a bona fide DIVA. More than that… She was one of the best female singers Britain had ever brought to light. Her outstanding, legendary, haunting, soulful sound has inspired, influenced, impressed, awed a myriad of artists, including the likes of ADELE and AMY WINEHOUSE. A music icon, a beacon of excellence… never to be forgotten‼️ The 🌎 world OWES YOU so much, Mary Catherine Isobel Bernadette O’Brien, a.k.a. Dusty Springfield‼️ 💜🌎💚 May you Rest In Peace, LADY DUSTY (1939 - 1999)… 🌹
@@gregnormal55. You used the exact same line just a few days ago. My previous answer remains the same. I keep my personal life private. And no, we will not get closer in any way. I hope the message is clear enough for you.
I have to agree with Elton John, she is the greatest white singer of all time. Her voice is just on a different level than anything else you will ever hear.
@@kdub7195 In my opinion, I disagree. I would never state that she is or was, the greatest "White" singer. There are many White singers who are great, and were great, and some rival her, and some surpass her. This is coming from a Black lady. Great she was, greatest, of Whites, nooooooo.
Quiet please, there's a lady on stage. Our beautiful Dusty ....waving her hands and having a wonderful time....and bringing so much pleasure to her many, many fans. We will never, ever forget this marvellous lady.
Can you imagine having the gift of a beautiful voice and performing in front of a sellout crowd and the people just love your performance, what a dream.
Dusty Springfield is a beautiful singing soul. She was a lucky and beautiful pop star back in the early 60's. What a wonderful voice to hear. She sadly died in 1999 because of breast cancer. We lost a beautiful soul in our world. Dusty Springfield's history and music will live on! R.I.P Dusty Springfield 💖
She was of mygeneration, the mid sixties when magic was everywhere, life was so exciting and our possibilities seemed endless. With Jackie Kennedy and the Beatle girlfriends our role models, singers like Dusty and Pet Clark at the helm of the Youth Quake revolution that shook the world we were indeed the luckiest girls on the planet. OMG.........what a time, what magic, and Dusty was there at the helm of the excitement of the times.
@@infinity8593 Oh yes...we will feel young forever and have been given the gift of beautiful memories that no one else can understand. Fairy dust was sprinkled on us back then and it's still with us.
Beth Virginia Phillips. Dusty really was something else. Do you remember Island of Dreams with her brothers. All the girls had beehive hairdos. A fantastic time to live in. Thank goodness for RU-vid. Ah, 📝
@@colinbryan5376 First time I heard them was Silver Threads and Golden Needles when I was 16 or 17 right when the Brit Invasion happened. I figured they were a Brit folk group and while I loved the bouncy sound of that song I didn't really pay attention to what they looked like..to me it was just another folk trio like the Brothers Four, Chad Mitchell Trio, etc. When I REALLY noticed Dusty was when she went solo with I Only Want to be With You and Stay Awhile. I somewhat resembled her back then so I was a fan right away and took a lot of my fashion styles from her as well as Petula Clark, the original Beatle girlfriends, and of course, my idol, Jackie Kennedy when she went Mod that year and she became one of the "cool girls"...tossed away the pillboxes and started to rock in her mini skirts and wigs. Was it just a dream or was there really a time like that?
Beth Virginia Phillips. Wow! You and I must be of the same generation, and judging by your term Brit invasion, I’m thinking you live stateside. I’m in the UK but visit the US each year.Dusty also was quite a mover. She came up with hand actions not seen before. Oh yes and it would have been a good time to invest in black eye shadow too.Her version of Son of a Preacher Man had me moving round the living room! My offspring thinks at my age I should be settling down but I reckon we gotta lot more living to do. Isn’t it great to hear from people who think along the same lines.
Exellence was the norm for Dusty. Thank you for all the timeless memories, from my teen years. I was 17 years old when this was released in 1966. Life was great. An age of learning, experienceing all that was new. In a few short years I was sent a reality check and my life was changed forever. Be that as it may one thing that never changed and that were these great old tunes...Peace
Dusty Springfield - wow! What a voice. She can deliver a song with the likes of Karen Carpenter, Diana Ross, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, and all the other great women of song. We miss you Dusty.
She says the opening line and then I lost it, one of the most dynamic vocalists of the 60s still hit all the marks years later like time stood still. The heartfelt lyrics match the vocalist like a glove and the rest is history. She influenced so many artists to hang in there, fearlessly sing with all the vocal chops. Fabulous to hear again.
Great song & for many people it will bring back wonderful memories 🎶🎶🎶 September 2020 a year we won’t forget, l wish you well. Greetings from Sydney Australia.
