About 2 years ago I came home with a bag of about 50 3D movies on blu-ray, and it was one of these super-sale deal situations of $2/bag. I've got the 3D player, but nowadays it's basically impossible to find the 3D TV, and depending on the system, you need compatible (active or passive) glasses. (I found out that a 3D disc will not even play in a 3D player if a 3D TV is not connected ). So I went down the rabbit hole of what to do, and found the cheapest option to play a 3D disc was hooking up a Viewsonic projector with 3D capable, and then some generic 3D electronic shutter/rechargeable glasses. (I actually bought the "official" viewsonic brand glasses, but they didn't function). The next piece of the puzzle is the Screen, and I can say the $10 bargain portable "grey tablecloth" is a waste of time, it's so creased and wrinkled that movies look like they're on some kind of concrete background. The projector needs to be so detailed in setup in terms of feet/inches of height off the floor and distance from the screen for focusing, I'm convinced I've yet to see any projected movie that's actually in focus. So, when the right screen (probably needs to be glossy white)/projector table comes along, I'd be willing to give it a try. Also, you have to spend time getting your room dark enough for the projector, dark enough for the glasses, and still be able to manage working all of your controls, etc. But, on the plus side, once you get it set up, you do get a movie theater vibe. On the 3 or 4 movies I've tried to watch, it seems like most of the 3D "effects" are not very exciting. And when the effect does happen, it's a split-second action, and if you blink you're gonna miss it. I also look through my titles and I'm kind of wondering why they made a 3d copy of "The Great Gatsby," but maybe they came up with something......I had a feeling that animated movies would be better for the format, but I guess I haven't hit the right one yet. So, after all that, I went thrifting one day and came home with a 3D $1 dvd copy of Spy Kids (Game Over?). It came with glasses, and I don't think a 3D player is even needed. That turned out to be the best 3D experience ever. Objects and laser beams and spy kids were coming out of the TV 3-4 feet into the room, and it made you want to get up and see if you could reach for it. If your X-men came with glasses, you may not need any special equipment if it's on regular dvd. But I've noticed on some cardboard glasses that came with my Robot Monster 3D vhs - they're set up to view a certain movie one way, and you flip them around to watch another, it all depends on how the movie was made and which side was which in terms of the color channel. I've found the passive 3D glasses in thrift stores, but I think those are for specific 3D TVs. I even found a pair of 3D glasses that were a wrap-around sunglass style, but the lenses are actually red and green (not red and blue). Turns out after some research that they're probably for viewing 3D reading material, apparently there was a phase of 3D comic books, but I've never seen one....
'In the Land of Saints and Sinners' seems to be getting pretty good reception, so it looks like Liam Neeson has succeeded in breaking the curse. (U2 on the other hand should have stopped in the mid '90s.)
I recall having seen Breakin', but for the life of me I can't remember anything about the film, save plot elements which might have been from its sequel instead... pretty sure it was no Beat Street!
I pick up the odd DVD from charity shops and if I enjoy the movie and can see myself watching them again I try and upgrade them to Blu Ray or 4K I recently ordered a couple of movies on Blu ray that are upgrades 1 being one flew over the cuckoo's nest and the other 1 True romance
