How to fix the Navigation Map System on a 2011 GMC Acadia. The dealership told me that my map quit working because it was not up to date. They were wrong. It just needed to be cleaned.
Out of the hundreds of videos I have watched on RU-vid, this video by far saved me the most amount of money. Considering I am pretty tech savvy myself, I never thought of this and it worked!! I didn’t know there was such an easy fix to a costly fix at a dealership. I even sent my whole head unit down to Florida to have someone fix it and they didn’t even do this! Considering they are a business that works just to fix this error and they didn’t fix it is ridiculous, but thank you for the amazing information.
Had the same problem with our navigation system in our 2010 Cadillac Escalade EXT ( map system error). Took it to dealership and they said they would have to remove and send system out for repairs and that it wouldn't be a cheap fix. After veiwing your video I immediately went out and purchased a DVD lens cleaner kit for $29.00. Installed disc and within 20 seconds my navigation systems error was corrected. Works great again Thx.
I just ran into this issue and they said I needed to pay $1065 to replace the whole thing so my Nav would work again. And here I am finding this video on RU-vid. Definitely trying this today!
AMAZING! I've been living without Nav in my '12 Acadia Denali for two years. THIS FIXED IT. $14.99 DVD cleaning disk at Best Buy did the trick in a single cleaning pass. THANK YOU!!!
Did mine yesterday and IT WORKED! thanks for the video. I was trying to change the fuse, I bought a newer disc thinking that was the issue. Worked like a charm 😀👍🏽
Thank you! Is all I can say. This absolutely worked! Spending $10 at Best Buy for the laser lens cleaner disc saved me nearly $200. Thank you again! God bless you!
Thank you sir it work!! Went to Walmart for len cleaner they didn't have so I went to Best Buy it were $14 and some change .It were worth it. Thanks again for the information.
Wow this video was a LIFESAVER! I just received the Lens cleaner disk ($9.50 on Amazon) I ordered after watching this video and my map works! I’ve been so bummed without it but didn’t want to spend the money on a new disk (I probably would have had the same issue with a NEW expensive disk). Thank you so much! I have a 2012 Acadia.
Clever. When unsure how to proceed, go with the simple & cheap first...always. Your clip is a clear illustration the value of perseverance and research. Nice work.
Wow, I bought my 2013 Acadia from Fox Valley like 2 years ago. I hate the way the transmission shifts but so far it hasn't fallen out. Good post, hopefully this will save a bunch of people some money.
Holy cow you were 2 miles away from my house! That is so cool. We love how our Acadia rides, but it's been back for so many things. I hope GM fixed the bugs for you. Anyway, thank you very much......
I'm going to have to try this. Just got my wife a new-to-her 2008 Acadia SLT-2 and we often get that error message also. Doesn't happen all the time. But her GPS doesn't work more often than it does. Thanks!
I’m not sure. I don’t think I have a play button. However, the disc says that in a regular DVD player and you do press play. Give that a shot. Good luck. I wish I could help more, but that’s all I know….
Hey, jester, nice to hear from ya, and good on you for fixing that navy system. I thought the days of cleaning heads were gone with cassette and VCR head cleaners. It’s a sad day in human technological evolution when head cleaners become a standard, again. If any ever tells you tat you need a head cleaner for your SSD storage device, punch dead in the face. LOL, but hey, I’m glad it worked out for you.
I can’t believe it I have a 2010 Cadillac Escalade having the same problem so I said what can it hurt I bought the same cleaner I swear it worked I was like wowwww thanks so much for the tip
Too bad you can't find a fix for a 2011 Mazda CX-9 navigation system. Mine is stuck on the insert map DVD. This trick you showed won't work on my car due to the fact I have no way to eject a DVD from the system.
@@jster1963 you are welcome..at first i used just a cd/dvd cleaner and that didn't work so i ordered from amazon a blue ray cd/dvd cleaner and that worked.
Brandy Heitkamp I’m sorry it didn’t work for you:-( I wish I knew another fix, but I don’t. I would try cleaning the map disk, but that’s the best I can do. Good luck....
@@missheather6274 OH! That is an Aux input. You can plug a MP3 player, or Ipod, or computer audio, etc. It will play through the vehicle sound system.....
jster1963 yes, I just can’t figure out what Aux cord it is as I’ve already purchase the standard 3.5 and a different one with 2 prongs. So weird how I can’t figure it out and the GMC wants $130 just to look at it hahaha
jster1963 I found your video bc I was leaving one job trying to get to another tonight and my GPS just refused to work . Usually after 2 tries it will work but not tonight . Had to use my phone to get to the next bar . I’m DJ’n right now but when I leave here tonight I’m going straight to Walmart!
It's alright it's just 10 bucks thought ide give it a try I'm gona try your other option of the q-tip but I think it is that Lazer..thanks for the info.
I went to Walmart and Target today and none of the stores carry this darn CD cleaner however I actually found it online and ordered it. ill keep u posted
I'm so disappointed I finally got my disc in to fix my navigation and it didn't work on my 2011 GMC Acadia Denali I guess I'm going to have to pay the big bucks to get it fixed
@@remotelylucy I’m so sorry! It worked for so many other folks. You may want to get a second mortgage for what they change, lol. Once again I’m sorry it didn’t work 😞
Wow, ordered the same cleaning disk off of Amazon 9.95. I couldn't believe it in 40 seconds it worked. I just purchased a 2011 Chevy Treverse. The seller told me the nav system stopped working a long time ago. I started researching and seen where Chevy wanted 179.00 + for a new disk. I kept getting the same error disk. I came across your video, can't thank you enough for the GREAT information.
I used my air compressor and blew into the Map DVD slot with disk removed. I held it about 3 inches away as it has 160 PSI. This fixed my map error. I also did this to the DVD drive because it was intermittent. Only did this a day ago, but so far both drives are working well. I also ordered a $10 Cleaning disk from Amazon in case this is short lived remedy.
Wow that's awesome I've been trying mine for 2yrs I'm Every so often I google a new hack for it lol now I'm Headed to Walmart to try yours thanks so much I'll let you know
dawn moccia-hooper it didn’t work for me:( unfortunately I’ve tried EVERYTHING 😫 but it’s worth a shot this was the. Best one I’ve seen i think I have further issues with my truck that may be affecting that as well, so don’t go by me lol my alarm goes off at 2am no reason at all my doors locks with my keys in the ignition 🙈 so yeah I have some electrical problems for sure!!
When the Nav system has an error, it gives a prompt in the lower right hand side to eject DVD. Just touch that and the entire face of the radio opens up. Good luck....
My 2010 Traverse popped this error up on my today. I was going to call the dealership but watching this I'm running to Walmart and buying the CD hopefully it will work in mine also....
Thank you so much for sharing, I hope this works for me also, I have had so many issues with my 2011 GMC Arcadia Denali, I've spent so much money on repairs!!!
wow !!! Thanks you saved me a lot of money, I just did it, after I saw your video and it works perfectly !!!! the disc to clean only cost me 6 dollars !!!!! ❤️
After viewing, I had high hopes for my 2010 Honda Crosstour Nav. Recently, after my battery died, when starting up, it keeps downloading the map, and after 2.5 minutes, says "Please check your disc". I tried the exact same Memorex Lens cleaner, but unfortunately, I get the same comment on the screen. I cleaned it 4 x but still no change. If anyone has any other ideas, I'd like to see them. They want $3,2000 for a new reader, $900 refurbished, and $800 for sale on e-bay. Too expensive. I'll just use my cell phone, if necessary. I'll try cleaning a dozen more times, but am not hopeful. Thanks for the idea, though.
I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I don't know any other techniques to fix it either, Maybe someone that has watched will be able to help. And good luck.....
my map dvd was 12 years old still worked but it looked like i was driving across fields on the new roads only just changed it to get the new roads . its unusual for a sealed dvd drive to need cleaning , keep the dvd cleaner in safe place as i predict you will need it again , as air flow is getting in to dvd drive all the best
I wondered why it needed cleaning too. I know about traveling across fields too. When we went to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Wisconsin, we were driving across fields. Anyway, thank you very much.....
Another 5 minute quick fix for you for the same problem. Butter knife wrapped in a baby wipe insert in slot and move left to right. It cleans the laser head. Worked for me
@@pattysamuelson8411 kinda. It is working most of the time, but still not quite right. I bought the cheapest cleaning disk I could, and I don't think it worked as well as a better one would have. My system still gets stuck once in a while, but I know I just need to get a better cleaning disk
You’re welcome and I hope it works for you. I am putting out another video pretty soon using another method of cleaning the lens that worked for me. Good luck and thank you again.....
I found a disc for $10, so don't feel too bad. It was worth a try for me and it worked. Thank you and maybe you can get another disc for cheap. Good luck.....
Thank you for sharing this. I’m having the same problem but it tell me the same thing when I try playing a dvd. Not sure if is reading it as navigating dvd but Sometime it would take long reading it and then it would come as error. I have a 2010 chevrolet traverse Itz when I got it they show me and the movie was playing good. Any one that can help me !? Or if I try this same thing maybe it would fix the problem
Dealership quoted me $1000 to exchange whole unit on our GMC Acadia because "it can't be repaired and we don't repair 'em." Mine may need actual repairs with a CD stuck, but we found a YT vid showing how to remove and ship the radio and nav unit for repair. HiTechElectronic YT channel has info if anyone ever needs that.
