I’m 75, I’ve listened to country music all my life, and that riff towards the end of the song with Pete and Flaco is absolutely as good as it gets. Amazing pairing of guitar and accordion. I’ve listened to it a thousand times over the years, and it’s wonderful to sit here and watch them perform it. Dwight Yoakam stands alone at the top of my all-time favorite artists list, and this song is one reason why...
Dwight is the ultimate artist i have listened to him since he began there no one with more music talent than him i love him keep it up Dwight your the best have seen him live many times shirley from up of michigan got to get on his bus up here and meet him
I’m a 23 year old afghan kid from New York who never ever in his life thought he would be sitting here listening to country music with water flowing from my eyes Gob bless you Mr. Yoakam
Music can be universal like that. What really matters, in my opinion, is your life experience and the lyrics of a song from any genre, as long as it makes you feel.
Jamil Alişar...... what you may not realize is that millions of people in the US appreciate and identify with Dwight's music...... if your sentiments are true, the majority of them consider you a friend.
Damn, after hundreds of views it finally donned on me. This song is a corrido. If you don't know what a corrido is it's [a ballad in a traditional Mexican style, typically having lyrics that narrate a historical event and/or a tragedy]. The words are in English but the soul wretching sound from the accordion is what does it. Dwight Yoakum is a musical genius.
I totally agree with you. The accordion really brings it in. This has been my favorite song. Though I love them all. Dwight does know his music. An amazing performer as well
LOVE 2 LOOK AT HIM 2. HE'S SO FINE. LONG LONG LEGS. HE COULD SING 2 ME ALL NITE LONG. YES I KNOW HE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THIS NOW. SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT. I DON'T LOOK LIKE I USED 2 EITHER BUT WE COULD TURN OUT THE LIGHTS & MAKE BELIEVE.
@@daksdeperro1489Freddy Fender is the best of all time. My brother was in a band in el Paso and he sang Freddy Fenders songs. Freddy my brother Manny joined you in heaven 3 yrs ago, but before he passed he sang to the nurses at the hospital before we took him home , the nurses told me how Manny had performed some of your songs and that he sang like an Angel. God bless you Freddie. I also danced to all your songs with my husband . My favorite was Only One. My husband also has a beautiful voice. Love you Freddy watch over my beautiful brother. I loved him so much and miss him so. I love your way of singing country music better than the too hillbilly way .
@@LALO325TX Lots of crossover between Bakersfield Sound & Tex Mex. I hear both in this song. I've been a country fan to some degree or other all my life, (raised on my dad's Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, and Eddy Arnold records, among others), and I've always liked Dwight. But this past year, it feels like I've come to appreciate him more as is deserved. Huge talent, angelic voice, not sure why I didn't notice years ago!
Dwight's music is never half assed ... When its sad its sad . When it's happy its happy . And when its time to party ... look out !!! Thanks for being honest with us for so long !!
Grew up a rock&roll guy but I love all genres when they're unique and I love good writing. This guy isn't just great compared to modern country music; I'd rank him one of Americas great music talents in the last 75 years.
I was pleased to see Dwight recognize Flaco Jimenez, one of the best Tex-Mex accordion players ever. He was, I believe a member of the Texas Tornadoes.
What a great song everything he sings. That voice and guitar he's just down to earth. Just a young kid from Kentucky who took off on his own. People couldn't believe the voice that young man had. And he can play guitar as good as anyone else. And thank God I got hooked on him when I did. I believe it was in the 80's can't remember but I listen to him everyday. He's one of the few outlaws still playing.
One of the best certainly .and a very recognizable voice .I would have serious reservations about calling Doyle Hartgraves , best ever voice . Carpenter, roofer, small remodeling jobs he’s the got damn man , ever time. greatest voice ever to grace the country music world not so much. I wonder if he ever got past his fear of antiques and midgets . Wasn’t too friendly with cocksuckers or retards either but that was way back when. Good times.
Well first they would have to be a hiillbilly from Kentucky that sounds like a legend, Buck Owens. Then they'd have to move to California to incorporate some of that sound. Then they'd have to go to Texas and find a legendary accordion player like Flaco Jiminez. Pretty easy, huh? I think Tyler Childers could maybe pull off some of it, can't think of any other new artiists that could...
This country artist is really unbelievable this artist is the best when it comes to country and that Tex Mex sound is awesome especially when joined by Flaco J.
Right from the beginning despite his own great voice and talent he was smart enough to get the best lead guitar players in the business to play along with him for every song. And adding in Flaco Jimenez on this one was a stroke of genius.

I was 14 years old when my neighbor from El Paso introduced me to Dwight and man... amazing artist!!!! Thank you Charlene for leaving such a beautiful memory with such great music! RIP Charlene Calderon! 🙏🏼
I ask myself that very thing every day when I look in the mirror and see an aging, gray haired man looking back at me. _Life is short, kiddos - enjoy your youth because it passes you by faster than you realize, … and when you do realize it, you'll be saying the same thing I'm saying now._
I played this song on a whim at a gig last night. Made a lady cry. She’d never heard it before.😢🎸 one of my favourite lines in any song: “ She wore red dresses and left the wounded behind”. Something in that line gives me goosebumps every time I heard it and brings a lump to my throat every time I sing it. 😢🎸
Underrated..the most overused word in comments...everywhere. This song is not underrated, it hit me the first time I ever heard it..and a lot of others too. It has managed to hit Portugal, which says a lot.
The really beautiful voice of Dwight coupled with his mastery of the wide range of musical notes from the highs to the lows - which he performs with such ease. Flaco Jimenez puts the icing on the cake with the ever mesmerising sounds of his accordion playing!
Dwight always is impressive with mixed cultural music it was more emotional, actually almost teared up listening to the lyrics. And I love Tejano Tex-Mex Country music, definitely got to me miss Texas.
Oh, I Love this man and his style! Can't explain it! So sweet, exciting, good! Best performer! I love you Dwight! ❤❤❤❤❤❤i have a hat like yours!! WACO, TX! REMEMBER?? I had No words! You looked at me! A dream!❤❤
I never followed or listened to Dwight and was so surprised when he was a big part of COUNTRY MUSIC, the documentary on PBS, is such a star and feel cheated I found him so late

Oi amigo bom gosto musical tem nome e sobre nome. Sou de uma geração acostumada com grandes cantores. Feliz por ser da época de ouro da música não só brasileira mas mundialmente falando. Um grande abraço.

Flaco, what a main ingredient in Texas music. Dwight, a wonder by himself. Together, romance in the music notes, words and whole song full of caring. 👍 and one more 👍
I´m from Sweden and I was lucky enough to be introduced to Dwights music in the late 1980´s by a friend who had spent a couple of years in NYC and I´ve been a fan ever since. I feel very blessed that I saw him live in Stockholm in 2015, Dwight and the band was just fenomenal.
@@dwightyoakam8943 i listen to it daily..at least a dozen times! You were suppose to come to our town when Buck come only you got sick..His son Buddy come instead. We had a ball..and a party like no other! Family does that..🥰
And to think Dixie Chicks were blacklisted for “Goodbye Earl” Sing on Mr Yoakum, I love your sound, words and music. Always admired you stayed out of politics. Kept your personal life private.
Really everything about this song is brilliant...I would put it shoulder to shoulder or even above any country song ever it is that good. This resonates to core of humanity and its dark angels. The lyrics are peeled down to the bare bones every word has impact with his delivery. It comes across as he is truly telling his dark story of heartbreak and the darkest revenge and justice.
@Dwight Yoakam is this real?! I saw you in person at ACL at this concert… best concert ever! I have been a long time fan since the early 90s… hope I get to see you in EP this time around
Every time I listen to this song, I go right down the rabbit hole and listen to Dwight for days. He still sounds SO good at age 65!! And has a two year old son. What a stud. But seriously, he’s such a true great!!
Ive always been a country music fan since I used to disagree with what was on the car radio in the early 60's. He told me someday I'd appreciate this. Ive been listening from all the oldies. Lefty, Hank sr., Bob Wills that old Texas Swing. Loved Dwight seems like he kinda jumped in the middle of Buck and Haggard on the Bakersfield scene with his Elvis like action. Ah, nothing beats good old country music.
