I also used the quantum phaser. I faced a whip Up on the Roof against A KIWA Loop. I also ran each antenna into a small amplifier made by Ameco. 1 amplifier for each antenna. Not only was I able to tune the antennas closer to the frequency I was phasing, but it made it's very easy to adjust the gain so that both antennas were equal. I found by doing this I was able to knock down all of our Chicago area blow torches. I had amazing results

I started on the Quantum and absolutely loved it! Mine went on the fritz, but came across one that was my father's so want to give it a shot in the shack here soon.

For those like me with almost no space doing the opposite of what is recommended also works. I have 2 mag loops but no space. So I have arranged them as a cross with the coax of my Wellbrook FLX attached at 90° to my other Wellbrook. Whilst the shape is bi directional the lobes are a lot sharper than a single loop, and the pattern is steerable.

Very cool! May have to try that some time!

What about stacking the loop antennas on a single mast?

Great question! You would need a 4-way PVC adapter for the top of the bottom W6LVP antenna, not sure how well it would work but I can tell you how well the existing setup works with the separated by 60-70'!

Great... Wish I can see that in analogue radio

While not as accurate as a meter, if your radio doesn't have a meter you can always try to use your ears to listen for peaks/nulls when making adjustments during phasing. That is what I used to do and it would still work.....just took a little longer than it does when you have a digital meter to watch.

My Drake R8-B has an MFJ 1026 and two Vibroplex Par-EndfedZ 140 feet apart same orientation, sloper install 49 ft x 20 ft. connected to it over RG213U. I think the distance between these two phaser array antenna elements needs be at least one wavelength apart for optimal effectiveness. It's also got a 1,000 foot longwire over 450 ohm ladderline through a tuner. Ground is three ten ft x 7/8" copper clad steel ground rods provided to me by my utilities co. It's fun. But I recall better days on shortwave. Back in the 70's to the mid 90's, for instance. Workin' the Utes and ham digital modes is fun. Longwave is cool.

Shortwave is definitely not what it used to be, especially on the tropical bands, but there is still good stuff out there. MW is an absolute wonderful DX experience these days, so much good stuff to hear!
