New DX8 Glider update 3.0. Basic glider set up, on a 4 flap wing glider explained for dummies. SPM file can be send on email.

Aile: Right in Aile+left Aux1 Flaps: left in gear+right aux2 Towcoupling in Thottle port, (working on gear switch.)
DX8 glider set up
1. Set up Glider meny
2. Set trim setup to F mode
3. Set up wing type. / pick with or without motor. in this screen
If motor, make the 1.2.3. numbers black. this will make the thottle active in all flt modes
4. Servo set up, direction sub and throw, Adjust pushrods so you are near 0 in subtrim.
5. Set up flaps/crow in Camber system
Dont adjust more up aileron that when using the aileron, the aileron that going down must go down to neutral, this will give good aileron control.
Remember to set it up in all 3 or 4 flt modes if you want this.. Check it by giving flaps and switch the flt mode switch. I like to have flaps/crow in all my flt modes.
6. Set up the flight modes in Camber preset.
If you want the aileron to go a bit down with the flaps in thermal mode, then make a mix : Flaps to left aileron, this will do it.
Dont use the speed setting down in this screen, there can be a bug that will do something strange and can make a crash...
7. Set up Differential and all the preset mixes you will use.
Flap-elevator= elevator compensation when using flaps.
Ail- flap= all span ailerons
ail-rud= rudder that works when using the ailerons
Ele-flap= snapflaps Flaps down when using up elevator.. normal just a few mm.
p mix= free mixes where you can make your own mixes, first set the master, then set the slave ch.
8. Set up dual rate and expo. (A realy good start is 40 % expo on elevator and rudder and 50 % on ailerons) this will give a nice feeling with the plane.
And dont listen to people that say that you should not use expo :)

I have a DX18, and embarrasing as it may be, still didn't even know this was all "pre-programmed" in. I thought I had to mix it all manually in MIX...THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!

7 ch rx Go to switch select: Set flap to aux3. Go to wing type: Set motor to spoiler, and make 0,1,2 black in all flight modes. Esc in thottle port on rx. Perhaps you must make a mix: Aux 3 > left flap, to get the flaps moving with the flap switch. Think this will help you on the way, dont have a spare rx so I can not try it my self. On my motor glider, i use the set up on the video, and control the motor on the flap switch, and I can also control max RPM on the turning switch. Works great.

Thanks - now onto flying. First flight was a hand toss from 6 feet AGL to check out the trim in cruise mode over a nice flat park here in Scottsdale. All seemed good with the 2m full house glider cruising along from 6 feet to touchdown at just above the stalling speed trimmed with hardly any elevator stick input required at all. Now onto the rubber band launch. The glider launched fine but once in flight it constantly pitched up to a shallow stall then a pitch nose down and this required constant elevator input to avoid this ballooning cycle very difficult to fly. Could trimming the glider in ground effect cause the trim to be off or is this more likely a CG too far aft problem? The glider is used and the CG is set a the previous owner's red dot and within 1/4" of the tow hook. I'm going to the park again for another hand toss. Miffed- Thanks Jim

It sound like a cg problem, I think I would move the cg about 8-10 mm forward and take it from there, with some hand throws and trim it Again. I think 1 mm up elevator sub trim before the first throw would be good. Good luck

Throttle forward 0 camber throttle back full crow got it! So when you launch the throttle stick is full forward. Makes sense. Your video explains using all three modes speed (launch), cruise and thermal. Are you setting up crow on the throttle stick in all three modes? Are snap flaps active in all three modes too? I've rebuilt an old Vaquero 2 meter that I got used and now real close to flying it. Thanks for the help. Jim

Yes I have crow and snapflaps in all flight modes, But you can do many fancy things in the flight modes if you feel like it. I like to keep it simple .. :o)

Hello, thank you for the video. I have a DX6e with a glider (with a motor to start flying). Can you please help me understand how to turn the motor completely off once the airplane is flying? At the moment it continues to turn instead of turning off when I throttle back.

You need to programe the esc to brake on. How to do This is different for each type esc so you have to read the manual for the esc that you have 👍😃

Hi Soren , Daz here, starting at the beginning, I would like to have your setup and I would like to know after you centre the flap servos do you put the servo horn on a forward bias so you get better down deflection on the flap ?I would like to have crow and flaps working as ailerons too so my guess is to just set the servo horns exactly the same as the aileron servo horns at 90 deg to the servo.Thanks in advance :)

Hi Daz, I normally set the flaps servos around 20 degree offset so they can give enough down flaps, and then there still should be enough for good aileron throws.But if you set yours like the ailerons and still have full flaps movement then it is perfect :)Good luck

Thanks for the video. I'm setting up a 2 meter with a full house using the DX8 as in your video for Dummies. I think you set up the SPEED settings in the LAUNCH mode. Is there a way to change the mode names. From you video it appears when the throttle stick is full forward the flaps and ailerons are slightly reflexed, with mid throttle the flaps and ailerons are faired in, and with the throttle to idle/off you are in full CROW. How do you just get flaps alone? Would you explain what wing configurations you are in as you move the throttle from full to off. I've watched many of your videos and this one half a dozen times. Hi, You can not change the Mode names. and its not nessary because you dont look at the tx. Full forward thottle should be 0 reflez or camber...:o) You cant get flaps alone, unless you skip the ailerons in camber setting, and perhaps make a mix.. flaps to left aile and set it on a switch then you can put it off and on. But you probberbly wont use it. Thottle forward: 0 camber or reflex, thottle back: full brake. Good luck :o)

Why my flpas servos are not even. It does start even in neutral, it twisted on middle position and still twist on 3er flaps position

Because your servo arms are not set in the precise same angle, and maybe the horn are not placed in precise the same distance from the hinge Line 😃 perhaps with some adjust at the servo throw and sub trim in the transmitter you can fix it, but check first the servo arm angle 👍

i have an Spektrum DX8 and i can't setup my sailplane. where do i need to connect my servos in the receiver for 2 aileron 2 flap?

Right Aile: in Aile+Left aile in Aux1. Flaps: Right flaps in gear+ left in aux2 You need at least a 7 ch rx, to use the glider set up for 4 flap wing... good luck
