@@MarkSmith-hf5nh I couldn't agree with you more. I have a best friend who has the same contagious laugh as Dyan and I always laugh so hard when she laughs even if the joke isn't funny.
This is brilliant! Both "real life" and entertainment together, Johnny showing off his "straight man" comedic prowess with his genuinely funny reaction shots-- this clip is one for the Comedic Ages!!!
Being incredibly intelligent, Johnny was rarely at a loss for words. On the rare occasions it happened his reactions were so funny. He obviously had strong feelings for Dyan.
He obviously liked her a lot. He may have been hurt by her laughter. Still, with the cameras rolling, the showman that he also was, he turned this into a classic funny moment of the Tonight Show.
Johnny maybe was successful but not a Cary Grant, not close, that’s who she married after Grant chasing her . Most men I think realize a smart, beautiful woman and react as Johnny did, she also mentioned she didn’t date/ live with anyone for quite a while. Wonder why? I guess she wasn’t a club 54 type!?
I've met Dyan a couple difft times at kick back parties and she is so nice. Fun, kind and even brings homemade cookies to parties. You gotta love her laugh here.
Dyan was always a terrific guest. Lovely, Charming, Sexxy, Smart with an infectious laugh. Ed's laugh always added to the situation. Thanks for sharing!
Imagine listening to that piercing cackling for several years. It would become very grating. Then again, she was married to Cary Grant for only three years, and husband number two for less than six.
@@alanhigh8125 Read her book "Dear Carey" and you will see it wasn't the laughing that broke that marriage up, it was Grant's inability to adjust himself. Michal Douglas is lasting with Catherine Zeta-Jones because he is willing to adjust his ways in his senior years on behalf of the relationship, Carey wanted no part of that and punished her. Grant and Cannon should have never gotten married. She married for an iconic dream, he married for some older year action. It was Sinatra and Farrow all over again.
@@aliceshaw8265 She became like figure from the wax museum. She would be trotted out once or twice a year for no particular reason, since she wasn't doing any real work, looking ghastly.
One of Carson’s best moments as a beautiful woman laughs at their dating history and then ridicules his multiple divorces. He even turns the commercial into a laugh.
4:00 broadsword just said it. Good job on the slow take of that part by the Director 📺. All the people in this shot, especially Johnny, must have watched Jack Benny do this two or three times a tv show …often at the commercial break. 🥲♥️Dyan was so relaxed and totally beautiful. And she is still working. Directing, of all things. Up for an award. 💙Go girl
Johnny: "You told me on this show more than once that you would never entertain the idea of getting married again." Dyan: "You told me the same thing, Johnny!!!!
@@albertpeterson5585 That's why her comeback line is funny. The obviously discussed a hypothetical future. A discussion Johnny may have taken a little more seriously than Dyan did.
A great illustration of "non verbal communications"....as she tries repeatedly to hold his hand, and he's having none of it.........funny patter, both played it perfectly.
My mother went to a Dodgers game with my dad in the 60's and Cary Grant was there with Dyan Cannon. Cary Grant looked at my mom and asked if she was some Italian ambassador's daughter (my mom's Armenian). Dyan Cannon looked pissed. My dad said "no she's not" then looked away....awkward!!!
One of the funniest segments I have ever seen! Still laughing. Absolutely infectious. He was really the best at his craft. Nobody ever came close to Johnny. They tried. But in the end, they were just imitating the master.
“ What was different about this fellow…” Hilarious laughter. Then “ I don’t know how people go through divorce more than once. “ And then she thanks Ed for his wedding gift while chiding Johnny for not sending one. This is beyond classic.
I agree that her laugh is fun. However, by the end of a first date with her all of her attraction would be overshadowed...by what would have become that completely annoying, obnoxious laugh. :-D
She's priceless...she says she was alone, not living with anyone 4 fifteen years...kinda tells ya what her needs were, she wasn't a club hopping girl, but to me she's acting royalty...and I don't think she gives a bleeep about anyone else's opinion.
This had to be set up beforehand, a fun little gag between the two of them. If it was, it doesn't feel forced or anything like that, just two friends making sure they got to the right punchline. Either way, it's utterly fantastic.
Anyone who watches a lot of Johnny will know it was not a setup. In fact, he *never* discussed his date life (only his divorce life) on the show. Make no doubt, Dyan's effusive laughter about the idea of dating Johnny set him back. If you read Dyan's book "Dear Carey" you will know exactly why her and Johnny were never meant for each other.
An absolute classic. This was entertainment, not the crap that you get from losers like Stephen Colbert, Seth Myers and Jimmie Kimmel. Fallon wins by default despite being quite talented and a solid interviewer.
Who did she marry in ‘85? Great comeback at the end “I haven’t received ur present yet Johnny!” Quick wit, at ease, pretty Dyan! She was one of the boys!
