Thanks again, got the winch running : My Japanese INNO roof rack has T bolt slots like my router table so bolted the winch onto a board put holes into it and put Tbolts to hold down onto track of rack then the wiring is about 6 foot so got a kit for trolling motors that has similar 10 gauge wire and 2 Anderson quick connectors with attachments to battery, long enough to open hood and reach my battery on my Acura MDX run winch disconnect put protective plugs on the Anderson connectors, wrap up wire and connect to rack with bungie and off we go. REALLY HELPS to have the remote so you can guide the kayak that is the added bonus, plus not have to manhandle the Hobie Outback after your all tired...

Like this idea! I saw some guys using 3" pvc & just pushing them up easy, but they were doing car tops not truck or suv so angle makes a difference. I already got the Harbor Freight 440 lbs to lift Outback up to garage ceiling.

Thanks to you and Alan! That winch addition is a must for me also, i have that same kayak and i cant lift the thing! Plus being on that side with the boat to guide it up/down and just operating remote! Very Nice. I'll have to see what i can come up with as my roof rack isnt one like the one you both have.

Had same problem but was able to rig like this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IHoO8k6c9TI.html . Had it set up with a hand crank winch but also agree that being on same side is a super improvement so went out and purchased this remote system. Just trying to work out how to hook to car's battery and not buy a spare battery like he's got...

Can you show me the roller you made for the cable to roll on as it pulls your kayak. I must say a genius idea!

It's a stardard metal pipe with PVC slid over it. I have it rope tied on each side to the rack bars. I don't have that truck anymore but hope that makes sense. Hollar at me on IG if not. Thx!

hi, how long are the pvc pipes? I have a Ford c-max which length do you recommend....thanks
@TheGoatRope

I am not sure. I would just get a 12-15ft section and cut as needed.

Winch parts and electrical please
@TheGoatRope
@TheGoatRope 3 года назад
I added the winch I used in the description but really anyone should work. I have seen cheap ones also at tractor supply. As for electrical. I just used a stand alone lawn mower battery 12v. You could wire it to your truck if you want to get fancy.
@damkayaker

I'm gonna make one of these but with the hand winch like Alan's. I'm gonna use 45 degree elbows to fit over round bars. Where did you get that grey pvc, is it schedule 40? That's electrical stuff no?
@TheGoatRope
@TheGoatRope 2 года назад
Awesome. I got it from Lowes (I believe or a local place) and yes the electrical stuff with the wide end. Sorry don't know technically term.
@damkayaker
@damkayaker 2 года назад
@@TheGoatRope - Schedule 40 (white) is some type of plumbing standard for construction. It withstands a certain level of psi water pressure and is kinda stiff, no flex to it. The grey you're using seems stiff enough. Didn't look like it flexed at all. I'll have to see what the cost difference is. Grey looks better though and I can pvc glue white 45's on if no grey 45's. Thanks for replying. Subscribed!

is the winch loud?
@TheGoatRope
@TheGoatRope 2 года назад
As you hear in the video... You aren't winning any silent winch awards. It's a cheap winch, so yes it's louder than some.

How did you run the electric wire?
@TheGoatRope
@TheGoatRope 3 года назад
I just have it set up to connect to a Stand alone battery as needed... You could conne t to main car battery if you wanted to run the wiring harness.

@@TheGoatRope Thanks, I was not watching carefully the first time now I see the battery on your tailgate at beginning of video. Trying to figure out hook up to car's main battery to save some bucks on a new battery.. but heck that is a lot less work. ha ha! LIKE MY FRIEND TOLD ME: " Hey! you probably only have 10,000 days left! Get your ass retired! and get to fishing and pickin' " Ha HA!

@@TheGoatRope Did you need a longer cable to reach the battery? Is the cable permanently attached to the winch, or can you use a different/longer power cable to the battery? Do you keep the winch mounted to the roof all the time, or only when going kayaking? If permanent, how did you lock it so it can't be stolen or rattle loose while driving?
@TheGoatRope
@TheGoatRope Месяц назад
@@kyleschroeder4801 I have a plug ran off my back cap to the battery I plug into when using it. Look around 3:50 mins you will see the winch mount. It's just a piece of wood bolted down. As for stealing it... Goodluck getting it unbolted. But with that, it's a harbor freight winch, not worried about it. Doubt anyone will take it before they steal the yak 😂
