Dying Micarta Knife Scales

In an effort to capture the magic of the stock Victorinox knife scales, I’m trying my luck at dying some natural Micarta scales to a similar red color. If successful, I’ll be using these scales on an upcoming custom Swiss Army knife project.
The scales I used are available here: www.etsy.com/s...
To dye the scales, I’m using about 2 cups of hot water, a splash of distilled vinegar, a pinch of salt, and two splashes of liquid Rit dye in Racing Red.
Good luck!

Mine always look better the next day. I boiled the water and I used the Rit color stay Rit synthetic . The synthetic worked way better.

Great tip, thanks for sharing! Mine have weathered a bit since this but still look great. I tried a purple die, though, and it didn’t work nearly as well; too dark I think.
