Dylan Larkin, David Perron, James Reimer, Patrick Kane, and Derek Lalonde speak with the media following Detroit’s 5-4 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens at the Centre Bell on Tuesday April 16, 2024
Hey Detroit. I’m a Rangers fan and followed the race the entire last week and was rooting for you. I was starving for an original 6 matchup and wanted a fresh matchup against a young team with unmatched heart and grit. Was pretty disappointed when I saw it was Washington again, as we have played them 5 times in the playoffs since 2009. Really had no interest in playing Pittsburgh again either. You have nothing to be ashamed of. The NHL’s loser point and tie breaking system is a disgrace. The capitals made the playoffs with an actual record of 40-42 and a goal differential of -40. It should be a prerequisite to be at least .500 to clinch a playoff berth. You were the ONLY team in the final 8 seed race that won half their games. You are the 8 seed as far as I’m concerned. But the NHL wants its division rivalry games and there is just bad blood between the Rangers and Capitals (the Penguins, who’ve received preferential treatment for 15 years, had 5 PPs to 1 yesterday in their game when they were still alive. Imagine that.) We also got Tampa-Florida again and Bruins-Leafs and Oilers-Kings in the west, these rivalries are great for ratings but the reruns are highly tiresome.
I wanted to play the rangers too However we know how that would end 😂 I was thinking we could possibly have squeaked 2 games out of that series with a win
@@jacobfolkringa8676 I think the Red Wings would've put up more of a fight and taken the Rangers to 6. So in terms of an easier path, playing Washington is preferred. I'm just bored with the rivalry. And I will be disappointed if the Rangers don't crush the Capitals in 5. When you look at the Caps roster, they had three players with over 40 points - their 4th leading scorer had 35 points. The Rangers had 4 players with over 70 points. Ovechkin is now a 30 goal scorer instead of a 60 goal scorer. This series should not be close but the Presidents trophy is far from a guarantee. Everyone starts 0-0 in the playoffs.
As an Avalanche fan I was really rooting for the Wings to make it back to the playoffs. Those last few games were so much fun to watch. Haven't seen an atmosphere like that in Detroit for at least 10 years - that's something to be very proud of.
@@deathevokation1017 yeah, that 7 game stretch of losses really killed it for us. To think, if we even won 3 of those losses. You're looking at an easy playoff spot, I feel really bad for Larks, but it is what it is. The rangers will most likely flatten the caps anyway though, we'll see what happens!
The fact that Torts pulled the goalie so early when it was 1-1 and the philly disallowed goal hurts a little more. I also really hate people complaining about the losing streaks saying "if they could have one more win". They lost games they should have won and won games they should have lost, that's the beauty of the NHL, any team can beat any team on any given day.
Also, if they had won a couple of more points at that time (or any other time during the season) it’s not like you can add them to the final score. Actually they could have ended with less points in total had they not had that losing streak, there is no way of knowing.
Washington had 32 regulation wins to Detroit's 27. Detroit needed more time to win games. Washington's RW is more impressive than Detroit having more overall wins. Much harder to win in regulation than win in Overtime.
Can’t ask for anymore from these boys, absolutely played their hearts out, passion, grit and resilience. Detroit hockey is back. The league need to watch out next season because these boys are gonna be hungry
8 years ago was the last time we had a .500 record. That's something that we should all remember about this season. Next year we bring the word "contending" back into our vocab.
This is hands down the most entertaining team to watch. I think the league is glad they didn't make the playoffs after seeing these last 2 games, we would be a nightmare in playoffs. Love this team, I can't wait for next season, and I hope Kane sticks around.
Naturally, gutted right now, but MIGHTY proud of the huge heart, grit and sheer determination to cross the 'PLAYOFFS' line by the end of Game 82, this past week, shown by the Wings👍👏! We're heading in the right direction. Roll on 2024/25🏒! Let's Go, Red Wings🏒🥅🎯!
@@blank-dr2kxYes, you're spot on there👍🎯! We're clearly heading in the right direction, now, too, aren't we😁?! Should be a very interesting off-season ...roll on October! Enjoy your hockey, out there👍!
Definitely was depressing to see the Wings not make it to playoffs, but watching the last few games has been one of the most entertaining runs by the Wings in a very long time. I'm ready for the rest of the league to consider the Wings to be contenders for the next season. LGRW!
As frustrated as I am Larkin is an amazing captain and it shows how important he is to this hockey team we gotta get better defensive core and more grit in the bottom 6 is this all gonna happen probably not but huge steps forward this season can’t wait to see eddy as a full time top 4 d man for us keep ur head up high larks this was a great season and we be even better next season LGRW !
@@JarradBruessel32 lmao flatout lie. i see we've entered the Rangers fans phase of scapegoating the rental. the high point for the Wings all year was the 6 game win streak, which included 2 Kane OT winners and him generally carrying the team, as he did post-all star break in general. then Larkin got hurt for the 2nd time. but even after the 7 game losing streak, they were still in a playoff spot. in fact they won 2/3 at the end wo Larkin before he came back - it was when LARKIN came back the 2nd time that they fell out of the playoff spot. the worst the Wings looked all season in any game, eye test or analytically, was at Carolina the game Kane missed w the flu. they were not even a big league hockey team that night. and their analytics in the back half of January after Kane got hurt fell off a cliff. they got dominated every game but Lyon was red hot and stole them some wins. scapegoating a guy who was wo question a top 2-3 player on the team his entire time here, and often the best player on the team, and who won them a bunch of games when no one else was showing up, is pathetic. this team post-break COULD NOT SCORE at even strength. everyone stopped scoring - except Kane and occasionally Raymond. they carried the team while Larkin and DeBrincat and the depth scoring disappeared for months at 5v5. also i recognize your name and avatar, you are a regular anti-Kane troll who has trashed him for months in youtube comments sections, probably years.
why does this feel like last year lions senario, honestly im glade made it past 90 points and ending it with a winning record, just like the detroit lions they fought to the very end rather making it, or just not making it, they will make alot of noise and they will show that they can be a playoff contender
you can build a roster with good players, but you cant build cohesion, it needs to be grown organically. Broken hearts and broken bones suck, but they always heal stronger. As much as this ending sucks, it gives me so much more hope for next year than i was for this season.
Dear Red Wings, Thank you for a this year. It had everything a hockey fan could wish for. UPS and downs, short nights here in germany and seeing a team that fights till the last second. You should be proud of yourself. Thank you and I can’t wait to see you again next season.
Really hope Perron comes back. Love his energy and what he brings to the team. Not as skilled as he once was but definitely a great guy to have on your team.
@@jjmonahan1723 he had 55 penalty minutes this year which is far from egregious. Mo had 51. Even Hedman in Tampa Bay had 76. I recall a handful of penalties being very untimely but I don’t think it’s as much of a liability considering his locker room presence and that he’s a fairly reliable depth scorer.
he could be a real asset to a team, but the way Lalonde used him made him a huge liability, bc he was getting opportunities in the lineup he couldn't handle anymore.
ya never know. i do think he's completely sure he won't come back to play on this roster for this coach. but that isn't the same as being sure he'll not come back.
keep your heads up boys. youve proved that you have what it takes to make the post season, it stings now, but next year we have what it takes! we were in a drought but this is something to look on and build on, we will be stanley cup champs before long!
3 off-season key moves to make: 1. Sign Raymond & Seider to long-term deals 2. Trade for a true number 1 goaltender (probably one of Boston's) 3. Sign Patrick Kane
Coaches should be ashamed, had they held it together in Larkins absence and actually motivated this team to even get one more point when we shouldve many times. wed be in the playoffs right now.
Dude you are obviously a casual hockey fan. Anyone who has followed this team for the last decade through the drought is happy with this season. Don't be the idiot that looks back at the season like "well duh all they had to do was win 1 more game" every team goes through skids some worse than others. Any REAL wings fan is proud and bummed. Not bitter and angry. Steve will makes adjustments again this off-season and we will take another step next year. The wings fanbase does not need fair weather fans
@altqq1755 Yeah, rip the "C" off captain softee, get rid of Uncle Fester, ditch the contracts of Putrid Petry, Brain ChaROT, and Ghostpuck!! Did I miss anyone?
GREAT SEASON BOYS! What a ride, meaningful games in April and breaking 90 points 💪 And for all the fans out there... Team points since Stevie came home: 39 -> 48 -> 74 -> 80 -> 91
Huge fan since my childhood, so many great days in the past. Looking back, this season was so exciting to watch. Obviously sad for out outcome but this team was so much fun to watch. We will have a great year next year! The ability to come back is remarkable.
the comebacks have been ridiculous all year. It got to the point where whenever we were losing with 5 mins to go, the more confident I got as the seconds ticked off.....thats how ridiculous they've been......Perron with 3-4 seconds to go just encapsulated that. Unreal.
No. 19-10-4 without him. 22-22-5 with him. We scored more goals per game without him than with him. We allowed 3 more shots per game with him than without him.
@@JarradBruessel32 lmfao wow a whole 3 shots! and that just happens to include all the games Larkin was out. your anti-Kane trolling was tiresome months ago, it's extremely tiresome now.
The man showed he is a leader, a great Captain in the tradition of great Red Wing Captains! The team has a bright future and Larkin will be a big, big part of that! LGRW!
It’s been really hard to watch this team the last few seasons. It sucks seeing what happened last night but it was so fun to watch this the last week or so. We can sit there and pin point which game we missed out on, where we messed up….however, Larkin, Raymond, Seider…they needed this for their growth. We will be there next year!
This one is going to sting for a bit, especially with how the guys fought down the stretch to stay in it. Setting the losing streaks aside, there are a lot of positives to take from this season. We took the season all the way to game 82, always in the mix, finishing at .500 for the first time in quite a while. PK stayed where it was last year mostly but that should be expected given the injuries to main PK guys like Ras and Larkin. The PP, however, went from 17th last season to 9th this season, a huge improvement. Raymond really needs no more praise, but hell, I'll give it to him anyway lol We needed him to break out and he did it. He's going to be that star forward we've been looking for. I know people have been sour on Seider but that guy took the hardest assignments against the best in the leage night after fricking night. Most of the time, he held his own and, for stretchs, he excelled. A better D-Corps is going to show how good he really is. Edvinsson is going to help in that regard. A couple of bonehead decisions with puck for sure but that is to be expected. The guy looked so good down the stretch and was a big part of this run. I can't wait to see his playoff run with Grand Rapids (btw GO GRIFFINS!!!). The prospect pool is developing splendidly and should give everybody some peace right now. And, everybody, let's cool the doom and gloom concerning Kane staying. We don't know what's going to happen, Kane and Yzerman are professionals and aren't going to say a damn thing to the media. There probably won't be any ink on paper for a while. Think about how hard Kane fought with this team, he might feel like business is unfinished and wants another shot. Who knows? So, stop jumping off of bridges. And, what I view as most important, Dylan Larkin is now the undisputed heart, soul, and straight-up leader of this team. Everybody has seen with their eyes the influence that he has night after night. The main talking point about this team, even nationally, was their resilience, how they never quit. I think that is how Larkin never said die and never quit. Hell of a season, guys. I'm looking forward to next year. Not really looking for a conversation either lol. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in on a team that made me truly excited to be a Wings fan for the first time in a very, very long time LGRW!
I have never seen a team try as hard as the Wings did when they beat Montreal in Detroit. They looked so disappointed when they were standing on the ice and they learned Philly had lost. Lukas Raymond looks so much like Matt Damon. Lately, he has been terrific
How that goal went from meaning everything to nothing in just 10 seconds… I still can’t process it mentally. We’d be singing a completely different tune right now. But hopefully next year we come back even better and extend Raymond, Seider, Kaner, and Perron, keep Reimer as our backup. I know this team can and will be better than a wildcard spot next season.
I still can't believe they got shutout* vs Washington last week in that must win. The last 3 games have been some of the most exciting hockey I've ever watch though
boys did better than anyone thought at the beginning of the season. sucks they fell out with terrible games and stretches, but at the end of the day...did better than anyone thought at the beginning of the year. LGRW. Everyone Loves Raymond! Thank you Mo! Larks is captain clutch. be honest, even if we made it we are building a cup team and we were not there, so take it, it sucks, but let's get better and go win in the long term.
Proud of being a Red wings fan and will always be an Red Wings fan. They’ve given great entertainment the whole season. I think the system is faulty when wings have won more than the other contenders
If you’re Derek Lalonde fan or not you have to admit that 7 game losing streak is unacceptable. You always need back up pieces and plans for key injuries. Start winning and leading games early and stop relying on comeback wins!! Focus on gettin more better defensive players. We have great offense but horrible defense.
It had nothing to do with lalonde in the first place 😂your delusional you both are,not everything is the coach’s fault keeping making excuses all you want but you’ll never be right with them
There is actually no net difference between losing streaks and a more even distribution of losses and wins. Media and fans get really worked up over streaks, there is even research about how people read way too much into them. So firing someone for something like that is not the correct move. If the Red Wings organization will let him go it’s not because of a losing streak, I’m sure.
Thank you for the season. For the first time in years I was really able to root for wins. It's been tough to watch games the last few years when in reality it has been better to lose than win. So close, yet so far. Been having mixed feelings these last few weeks. Obviously always hoping for wins, but on the other hand the last 20 games don't justify playoffs for Red Wings. Caps also beat Red Wings twice in the last two games, so they kind of deserve the last playoff spot. With one of the oldest rosters in the league, I'm looking forward for youth movement. Perron, Holl, Copp, Fabbri, Petry should all be gone one way or the other. Also some of the young guys have to start overplaying their draft position. Wings have more than enough of top 9 players. They need some of the young guys to move into elite tier and find that top 6 center for next season. Anyway I wouldn't be shocked if Wings regress back to 80-85 point team next season before they finally take the big step to playoffs.
When the locker room went into shambles once the garbage ad got put on the sweater I said this skid and especially the blown games to Phx are gna haunt them later. And here we are
So why is everyone talking about Philly pulling the goalie can someone elaborate what they did because the way Ken and mick talked about it at the end of the game and now Derek Lalonde just brought it up it sounds intentional like they lost on purpose? I don’t understand..
Philly needs to beat Caps in regulation to have a chance to the playoffs With 3 minutes left, the game tied at 1:1, Torts decided to pull the goalie and go for the winner. And Caps scored an empty netter. Easy win for Caps, and Red Wings got eliminated
Of all the teams that had a chance, Philly had the worst odds to succeed. Torts was only doing his job to do everything to succeed, sometimes you succeed and in other cases you don't. Overall a good season by Philly, last third not so much.
The ridiculous NHL point system at it's finest today.. To anyone that for whatever crazy reason thinks it makes sense, this is why it CLEARLY does not. Having said that, you can't shit the bed for an entire month and put yourselves in this position in the first place.
honestly i didn't see him coming back from a while back. the way he produced with the time he had it's gonna cost at least $2m more per yuear to hold him and we might be better off with the money. it is sad but i doubt anyone definitively would say they thought he was coming back for sure
@@grayhudson1095lmfao sorry he wasn't helping debrincat score more goals. Kane only assisted on 6 of debrincats goals. Larkin, raymond and debrincat combined for most of the goals this season. You are really stupid thinking that kane deserved to be top line over raymond who lead the team in points this year. 😂
@@JarradBruessel32 DeBrincat assisted on 12 or so of Kane's goals. The point isn't to get DeBrincat goals but to outscore the opponent. The Kane Larkin DeBrincat line outscored opponents 14-6 in 152 minutes this year. The Raymond Larkin DeBrincat line outscored opponents 23-17 in 309 minutes. And yes, Kane deserved to be top line over Raymond. Higher points per game, way better goals for/against w him on the ice, and a way better 5v5 goal scorer this year. And as I just explained, his version of the top line was the best line at actually beating the opponents on the scoreboard of any line all year.
I wonder what stevie is going to do this summer to make us a real threat. Goal tending and defense need some work and we obviously need new contracts for rayzor seider and hopefully kane. And then what veterans get replaced by GR prospects. I want Raymond wearing an A. Furthermore, I think it's going to be harder to make playoffs next season if Buffalo, Ott, NJ etc. get their shit together
Habs fan: sucks for the wings. (Even tho I never liked em) They won 2 amazing back to back games. I was sure by winning tonight they made the playoffs since they had more W than Washington.
Dear Habs fan! Personally, I would like to congratulate you on two very well completed games. I actually thought you guys were going to win both of these games. You have a very interesting team going on, although I also never liked you, not even when Naslund as the first European player joins the team. The atmosphere in both buildings is what makes the difference in games like this. So much emotion, one team fighting for its life, another that can play completely relaxed AND do it very well. So frustrating that you block around ~50 shots in the first game. This close series between these two teams is topped only by the game between CHI - Wing when it comes to entertainment value. Is it really worth watching 82 matches live from Sweden during a season when only 3 reach that level, No is my answer. During 82 matches, you get to pick your own gobits out of the cake. Now I only wish that we have a bit of luck with the lottery and move up 10 places or whatever we can do at most. Not that I think it will happen, but rebuilds being what they are, GG Habs.
@@billjohansson88 The really weird thing about our run in is that I came to respect Toronto and Montreal a little bit and that kind of makes me feel a bit dirty.....but still.....there were some positive vibes from their fans so fair play to em both.
I know there’s some decisions Lalonde makes that are questionable, but for the people calling for his head. Just get out of the comments. He has a realistic mindset of this team and he’s learning as a coach as well. I think next year will be playoffs and a 2nd round.
@@MichaelScottDunderMifflinlmfao what!?! They were 19-10-4 this year without him. Lmfao they only had 21 wins in 50 games with him. Lmfao he didn't help
Ya if only you guys stepped up when larkin was out and having that atrocious march, y'all would've been fine. But yzerman told us we had the depth to make it. C ya guys in the playoffs in the next 1-10 or so years. Good effort to try and get in though, just a little too late.
Wow, I bet Raymond would have been interviewed if he wasn't inconsolable. I can only imagine after how he's played. I used to not like flyers, but now I absolutely hate them.
Of all the teams that had a chance, Philly had the worst odds to succeed. Torts was only doing his job to do everything to succeed, sometimes you succeed and in other cases you don't. Overall a good season by Philly, last third not so much.
So sorry boys 😢 You guys were Great and faught hard gave it your All👍 So proud of you😊👍 You fidnt get in in the worst way . Another team to oull their goalie ...knowing you already eliminated them by tying the game 😢😡 Then Csps score snd win Also the Stupid tiebraker ... Because Caps lost 2 more overtime games than you... they get in and you dont... Stupid rule 😡
5 years in and SY has 2 back up NHL goalies. I mean having to score 5 goals a night to win + the amount of 3+ goal leads lost was too many. Let's all get excited for another off-season of signing old men to long contracts.
I’m not going to whine about stuff. Just one win against any team. We tied shitty rule. But if they grow and we get goal tending next season look out. Maybe we challenge for a div seed instead you never know. This hurts tho. Really bad actually
Imagine if the ref have seen the stick thrown by Jaden Schwartz and we wouldn’t lost a extra point to the Kraken and made the playoff.. imagine if the ref can only do their job… humhum Kelly Suckerland what a joke
Forgivable hiccups but still gutted. Blowing 5-0 lead against San Jose 1/4 points in Sweden after leading both games 10/13 losses in December 7 straight losses in March Any one of these hiccups were altered and we’re playing hockey this weekend. But on the contrary, we stole many games in the 3rd. LGRW, look forward to seeing this group in the Fall 😊 250 hours of television
This is Tort’s fault! He shouldn’t have pulled the goalie out of the net. Now the CRAPITALS are in instead of our Wings! This is stupid! If my Jets don’t make it to the finals I oughta boycott the whole NHL! Wtpg Buttman, ya screwed us over again.
