DALLAS is my all time favorite show, but the first 5 seasons of Dynasty, had great versions of the theme. Seasons 6 - 9 were basically the same version, slower paced too. This version probably my favorite.
@@PritpalSingh-ys6ol We all have our own personal opinions about things Each to their own I love this theme tune along with North and South series #1 and 2 and the theme music to Cagney and Lacey. Both composed by Bill Conti
I once saw an interview with one of the writers on "Dynasty", and he said that different visual cues were used to either make the audience love a character or hate them. With Heather Locklear (Sammy Jo), a real villainess, she was often shown eating large sandwiches and potato chips -- and yet never gaining a pound. "There's no better way to make female viewers hate a woman character", he laughed.
Heather said on her Intimate Portait they had her and Joan eat while they were doing scene because they could deliver lines and eat at the same time and also game them nuance
Spent my teenage years watching this and the dreams I had of life to be and how life would be. The best years of my life dreaming as I watched Dynasty...the ultimate escape from a confused beginning.
The shot with a character smoking in the opening credits is really startling considering how smoking is just not tolerated anywhere anymore It looks really strange, and I don't know anybody personally who smokes either 🙂
dynasty was the best and the most stylish show in the 80s i loved this show and miss joan collins was my favorate its like whats shs going to wear and whats shes going too say an do next, and i love the them song and the opening this is great i loved this
I love these opening title sequences...We'll never see this sort of thing again...I was literally a baby when Dynasty first aired in the UK in 1982, according to my parents..I've seen the repeats on UK Gold 1999/2000 and on CBS Drama UK in 2018 and have the full DVD box sets which came out earlier in the UK than in the US, where they split seasons into two parts Anyway, how on earth Equity union representatives now barely tolerate any opening sequences for TV shows that have the actors name in a tiny font is beyond me...And the end credits zip by so fast you don't even know who the supporting cast and crew are
Oh wow!!!! My heart swelled with excitement because I used to play this song on my trumpet!!!!!! Wow. I forgot about this beautiful theme. Wells of water...my eyes. 🎶🎵💦
Wow had forgotten how epic the beginning of the show came on. It was and will always be a part of me. Even though it was not real..I was a teenager living in a small rural community. With many dreams, hopes and ambition. It was an escape from reality of growing up poor . After college graduation...I knew nothing could stop me from obtaining financial security . I of course didn't become as wealthy as the characters of Dynasty....but I realize my true priorities in life as I got older. Money is security...we don't have to be famous or rich to be happy. I'm not ashamed of growing up poor..if I could go back I wouldn't change a thing about my life growing up.
I had the biggest crush on John James back in the day. I honestly don't know how to explain it but he was always good looking to me when he was on Dynasty. Especially the early years.
The reason that these lavish minute-and-a-half opening theme and cast intros don't exist anymore? It used to be that TV shows had 47-50 minutes to tell their story of the week. Now they're down to 42, maybe 43 minutes. They just don't have a minute and a half to waste on the intro. It's a shame.
That, plus, once upon a time, ACTUAL composers (Bill Conti, Henry Mancini, Lalo Schifrin, etc.) were composing the music. Paying the composer could get expensive -- and if the theme became a hit, it could get even MORE expensive . . . since TV studios didn't have the big budget of a movie studio, they had to cut costs whenever possible; it was starting then that they began using generic synthesizer riffs or whatever was the latest MTV hit for a theme.
@@chewybunz But there's good news now! Because last night I started the third season of "Evil," the show streaming on Paramount Plus (and my latest obsession). There was a long, stylish, theme-incorporating, artfully done intro with a newly composed piece of music. It seems streaming services are bringing it back because they're not hampered by the one-hour format that constricts network TV. They don't have to worry about run times or TV commercials. I'm glad you replied to my comment here because I've missed TV theme songs and intros and I'm happy they're coming back from oblivion.
Bill Conti's theme ( and also his theme for Falcon Crest) get enormous respect from me- both always give me chills. And it pleases me that both John James and Jack Coleman , 2 very hetero gentlemen, were then and are still now, delighted and grateful for the fans that made them gay pinups.
Paula, great orchestration arrangements on this...a little boy of 14 back in 82. when Dynasty would come on. I would run to the television just to HEAR this theme song/NO JOKE. that orchestra, and that pocket trumpet always pulled me in.
@@jonathanmcvay4499 why did Al Corley leave? Was it a salary dispute? He did some commentary on some of the 1st season episodes for the DVD but never gave a hint of his displeasure.
@@paulamiles9559 I only have a vague memory of it. It had something to do with the fact they kept shifting Steven’s sexuality around and that he found it tedious, dull, and his character was always dour and sad.
@@jonathanmcvay4499 I thought Mr Corley's portrayal of a bi- sexual character was really well done. Mr Corley gave off a " tough" vibe as opposed to Mr Coleman's " sweeter" one. It was more of an " against type" casting. " Steven" was a more aggressive character as portrayed by Mr. Corley.
Is it just me or is the music very slightly sped up for this season? I see Linda Evans now gets a jewellery backdrop, rather than the private jet while old Jeff Colby is still hitting the sauce.
I've been revisiting the favorite show of my youth...and this season 3, the first 3 episodes were just FANTASTIC! The show was in top form. Not a fan of Kirby, however, and they could have done so much more with Ms. Adair...who left Y&R as Jill. Sammy Jo was back. Let's see 1982-1983...6th grade & 7th grade.
From what I can recall Dallas didn't come on the same night. There was a split in my home on Fridays though with my Mom and Sister watching Dallas and me and my Dad watching Miami Vice on the other tv.
@@marcantoineprevost246 They only shew the people who were in the episode. If one wasn't he or she was not in the intro either. F.ex. Sammy Jo was a bit on and off the series so when she wasn't in the episode she wasn't on the intro either. In other series like Heartbeat from Yorkshire / Aidensfield, the people of the whole season were in the intro even if they were in an episode or not. To mention one, Katzia Pelka (Maggie Bolton) who was very much on and off, at the end of her apparence in the show, was on the intro until she left the series for good. Then they took her off.
This is the intro I remember, I’d clicked on a few other videos... I wanted to work out how old I was when I was watching this. If the years in the description are correct, I was 8-9 years old.... can someone clarify when this intro started and how long they used it for? Thanks
why would they put jack coleman towards the end of the credits? steven's a major character, he should be placed right after PSM, honey .. and please, it SHOULD read "special guest star - Joan Collins - as Alexis", because Joan made the series work!
I think they put Jack Coleman towards the end of the credits, because he was introduced very late into season 3. In the other big soaps (Dallas, Knots Landing or Falcon Crest), Coleman probably would not have been added to the main cast in the middle of the current season at all.
I'm re visiting Season 3 currently. My partner hates a lot of the characters , especially Adam , Fallon & Alexis -says they're all manipulative, cruel c***s lol. Adam is probably at his most psychopathic in this season. Still love Fallon.
Fallon has been pretty decent in the third season, besides divorcing Jeff, who is now free to pursue his love for Kirby. But Adam? Yes, EVIL. Trying to kill Jeff with no regrets (even Alexis was horrified by Adam's actions) and then trying to rape Kirby a second time! I love to hate him, as they say.
