Dyno Testing the Unitronic 4" Turbo Inlet on my RS3

I'm back at Evolution Auto Performance in Maple Ridge, BC to have my Unitronic 4" turbo inlet installed and dyno tested. I perform a baseline run to find out what power levels I am at before I modify the car any further. I then get the guys to install the 4" turbo inlet and dyno the car again to see what kind of additional power it makes.
I was EXTREMELY pleased with the results and can't wait to get back to the track to test out my new gains!

This testing was done on a Custom Code - Stage 2 - Drag Race File on E60. I have FBO's including a downpipe, midpipes, intercooler, air intake and this turbo inlet.

I did the same for my S3 switching out my inlet from apr to unitronic and the throttle response on the daily drive was instantly noticable. But good god man 4" compared to mine and I also will be looking forward to that race if it happens!! Good luck man!

Great Vid! 2 things: should probably set up a cam looking at the silicone hose to ensure it isn't collapsing under suction thus causing a disruption to airflow - 2nd thing, your engine really bounces a lot when coming off throttle, those engine mounts ok? Keep the up the good work!!

Thanks! The silicone isn't collapsing. There isn't enough pressure on that side for that to happen. The engine mounts have been beaten up pretty bad but the engine has always moved a lot, even when I bought the car with 11,000km on it. I have been considering upgrading the mounts but then I'm worried about the NVH seeing as I still use this car as my daily driver.

Last remark here before I go watch something cool. With how much your motor is moving, and the amount of suction your turbo is making, your REALLY gonna want to shorten that amount of silicone tubing on your intake side. That silicone turbo tubing is meant for boost - not for suction. I'd be willing to be it's caving in on itself ;)

I just love how you can pick up 20 WHP with just a damn bent pipe. No tune change no nothing. Given it's not cheap but still ... it's something one can easily DIY and guaranteed gains.

It is a Custom Code logger. The Unitronic logger is still in development.

Very nice mod, cooler turbo for it too I’m thinking, more consistent outputs between runs, does this custom code have a valet feature? Something that will limit allowable throttle percentage, I think some do rev limiting but that doesn’t prevent full output beforehand until rev limitation. What is the custom code called and where’s it from ? Thanks and as always, great videos!

Yes, when you purchase the Stage 2 software, you get all of the different fuel types and octanes.

Would have been good to see the dyno graphs. Peak gains are great but its about the average bhp and torque it makes across the rev range.

What dyno and strategy was the dyno at smooyhing 5? and look at your avg still very good for the platform and those 5 cylinders are great powertrain systems good job

It is a Dynocom AWD 15000 FX. They use a program called Quantum session to run the dyno. Thank you very much!

Thank you so much for this video. I was skeptical before I watch your video. Now I want to get one. What is a 20WHP gain to HP at the crank? On Unitronic website, it has specified that this 4" turbo inlet elbow only works on left hand drive RS3 (yours is right hand drive?) and will not work with stock intake. What did you make out of that?

20WHP I would imagine is around 22 to 25hp at the crank. Ultimately it depends on your drivetrain loss. If it says on the Unitronic website that it only works on LHD vehicles (like mine) then it won't work for a RHD vehicle. The inlet does not come with the piece of silicone. You have to buy that on your own.

On the BMW n54s the phantom knock can be caused by dual mass flywheels. Not sure your trans or flywheel but that could be the case..

I have a quick question, does our Canadian version have a secondary cat somewhere near the midpipes? Looking forward to buy the unitronic midpipes, but wasnt sure if it would increase sound as much as the US model because they have a secondary cat.

I'm fairly certain that all North American models are the same and have the same secondary cats. You get rid of them when you change out your midpipes.

Sorry, I don't have a build sheet, but if you watch a few of my videos I go over everything done to the car. Sadly I won't be doing a video of the Custom Code logger anymore, now that I'm not using their software. I'll be uploading a video on the VCDS logger today though!

looking to go with unitronic stage 2 ecu and tcu tune. it's saying i need a 3" inlet but im thinking on waiting a while. do you think i'd be ok with the stock inlet on a stage 2 tune from them?

It's totally fine. You just won't make the advertised power if you don't use all their suggested parts.

no, but you also won't see the proper potential out the hardware upgrade without the car being tuned for Stage 2.

@@VancityAudi I watched your previous IE install, 483 base HP before install and with a gain of ~22 hp. with the 4" Unitronic, it went up to 516HP. If i'll base it on the 483 HP before, the total gain is ~33HP. is that right?

Custom Code no longer exists. Their tuning blew up many, many engines including mine. 100% go with Unitronic

To prevent my AWD system from messing with the results. My haldex system doesn't play nice on dyno's. I sometimes get weird looking graphs and uneven powerbands. Running in FWD prevents this from happening and provides a better look at the power the car makes

It is AWD. I disconnect the AWD controller to run it in FWD on the dyno. We have found we get more accurate dyno results in FWD. The graphs are smoother with less intervention from the AWD system.
