Less noise and more power? Bonus. One of the advantages of keeping exhaust roar down is you get to catch important engine noises - often an early indicator that saves big bucks

X's probably allow for better high rpm power as they allow for a smoother transition for the uneven exhaust pulses to scavenge each other. If you look at a NASCAR stock car exhaust, they'll have the X leading to dual "boom tubes" which exit at one side of the car. The X will probably give more of a higher pitched cackle sound compared to the H.

I've been thinking about possibly changing out the steering wheel. What about the offset bothered you?

Not really super quiet. I had a 3" Mac Prochamber - it was maybe a little quieter than the H pipe, but not much.

That wasn't intentional... just worked out that way. The Walkers were much quieter. But this was years ago. Now I'm in love with Jones Max Flow mufflers. Like Ultraflos, but quieter, better made, stainless and cheaper.

BassManBobBassCovers the more chambers/change of directions and sound deadening material such as stainless steel wool and fiberglass packing a muffler has the more quiet it will be. A common muffler style uses a chamber on each end and 3 perforated tubes. The exhaust will have a one way path through the tubes with end caps that keep the exha switching direction from tube to tube and the muffler can have packing surrounding the tubes. This is one of the first performance mufflers after the straight through glass packs and it is called a turbo muffler. This is a fairly mild sounding muffler but still has some decent flow. These mufflers shown are for more of a performance sound with decent flow if you are looking for quieter mufflers they have those. You dont have to put 2 in line for a quiet exhaust . Mercedes Benz has some of the quietest I've heard personally. I removed them from my e series because I like more of a performance sound .

ArnoTrek 3", I believe they are offset Inlet, centered Outlet. So technically I suppose they're reversible.

At the power level the car was at when I made this video, the HP loss from the Walkers was negligible. But when I turned the wick up, they did in fact end up melting and distorting a bit (added about 200 hp - bigger blower/motor). I now run Jones Maxflow mufflers and after an A-B-A track test, there was no loss in power at 800-850 flywheel hp. The Jones mufflers are fantastic.

@@GameTime-cn7sm The catalytic converter? Keep it on that car. I don't have any specific recommendations. It'll help quiet it down and it'll smell less like raw exhaust.

Yeah, I had mine get hot enough to deform. I now run Jones Max Flow mufflers.

snakesonaplane2 No doubt, but I was going for quiet. I was surprised that there appeared to be so little power loss.

PikasFilm If I want quiet but lots of flow, I go for a long case Magnaflow/Ultraflo if there's room. If not, Dynomax Super Turbos are very mild, even with headers and no cats, they're super mellow but flow great. In my experience because they have the flow directors that smooth the flow, they drone less than standard turbo mufflers.

@@AdmiralRustyShackleford I ran a dynomax super turbo on my Integra years ago. 4-2-1 header, no cat, straight back to muffler. No other muffler or resonator. Raspy, but quiet. Decent torque and throttle response too.

Over time, the ultra flos definitely get louder as the packing wears out. I run Jones Full Boar mufflers now, and back to back track testing (muffs vs no muffs) showed zero difference. The car now runs 9.8's at 140 mph.

AlexLTDLX​ Once that packing burns out your get reversion in the case causing backpressure,happens with all strait through "packed" style mufflers.I use hooker areo chambers and superturbos on my cars.

I don't know if I'd say extremely quiet but yes they're pretty quiet.

Yeah, I'm more focused on quiet these days. It's worth noting that I've moved on to Jones Max Flow mufflers, because as the car got faster, the Walkers were just getting over powered (read: hot) to the point where one of the cases distorted from the heat.

They both sounded good. The Ultra Flos were deeper, and the packing did eventually "wear out." I'm a Jones Max Flow muffler guy now, fwiw.

LOL... hey now. I did that in a pinch with my long-gone, craptastic Harbor Freight flux core welder/piece of garbage. I've since (a few years ago now) bought an AHP alphatig TIG welder - a whole different universe than the weld you've pointed out. But thanks for pointing it out. The ultra flos were pretty loud; but they were a few years old. The walkers ended up melting and distorting once i turned it up a bit - the car currently runs high 9's. Now I run Jones Full boar mufflers, they're quiet and cost no power (pulled them at the track to test - no difference). I'm sold on those.

The Walkers were definitely quieter - considering their internals, not surprising (they necked down to under 2.5" internally). The Ultraflos were certainly more "alpha male." The Jones Maxflows I run now are like quieter Ultraflos, but they're better made, look better and are cheaper.

Interesting how people view the mufflers differently. Some people thought the Walkers sounded weaker than the Utraflos. Thanks for the comment.

I'm getting older, and have no wish to annoy my neighbors. Nice for it's a screen when you open it up though.
