Those screw don't need to be removed first and its much easier to take the thing apart if you wait to take them off so that's why I edited that step out. When I made this video I removed them first which isn't necessary and instead of re-shooting the video I just edited that step out.

mek4321 After taking it apart and seeing what you are talking about I realize you are right... Thxs again for your contribution in helping others save big Bucks. I would have never thought of taking the cyclone part of this vacuum apart and after looking up "Filter clean" I came across yours and others, Yours by Far is the best at Showing (key word there is "Showing") how it's done. Sorry but I dont have a good answer for that, its one of the most difficult parts to do. Those door hinge pins/tabs have broken off my DC-17 and DC-23 but they broke because I bang on the bin when the door is open to get the dust out. So now I have to hold the bottom on when I remove the canisters from the machine.

There are quite a few possible problems. Most likely it is a partial clog in the removable U-bend at the base of the wand/hose or up in the tubing directly above the U-bend that moves back and forth from wand to floor suction. Or a partial clog in the aluminum tube of the wand itself. If there are no clogs check for tears in the flexible hose and that the hard tubing above the U-bend is properly seating itself over the U-bend when the vacuum is moved back into the upright position. The U-bend is simply removed with one screw that can be turned with a quarter. It is important to make sure that it is seated properly when re-installed as sometimes it seems like it is back in place but is not fully connected on either side and lets a lot of air in.

roc phil sorry i haven't taken apart a DC35 it will be quite different than the DC17

Ford Man you can try clear silicone sealant from the hardware store that you dispense with a caulk gun, I'm fairly sure that's how the original gasket was make in the first place. I have never tried it but I would set the canister upside down to let the silicon cure.

It looks like you want a "dc17 fdc seal" one might pop up on ebay or amazon but I dont see any at the moment

+William Anderson I'd like to rid my vacuum of the musty smell but am confused. Are you saying NOT to get water into one of the parts (and, if so, which one, please) OR are you saying to go ahead and clean with water BUT to make absolutely sure that no water drops are left when reassembled? Thanks!

There are built differently so this video probably wont help at all. I have a DC33 and I think the cyclone pack on that is like your DC28 but I havent taken that apart yet.

I don't own and have not tried to take apart a DC41 so I cant say. I only took apart my DC17 because I got it second hand and wanted to clean out the dog smell. Also the DC17 had a minor design flaw where sometimes the gasket ring would get out of alignment and allow dirt to flow into the cyclones backwards clogging them. Your DC41 is designed in a way that this should never be a problem, I also have a DC23 and have never needed to take it apart (it runs fine) and I vacuum up tons of stuff I shouldn't like drywall dust and saw dust with it. If it eventually seems like its not working as well you might want to try blowing a leaf blower through the bottom of the canister with the bottom open.

the seal that you gave the number for goes on open end up timecode 5:58 in the video, it seals the gap between the cyclone pack and the inside of the clearbin

+mek4321 Thank you, that was quick. I figured that out. Now that I have it all cleaned and back together I realized I didn't put the belt on. Duh! I was wondering why the role wasn't turning! 😞 Well at least that's the easy part. 😊

@@mek4321 I finally did. i soooooo love making these things like new!!! not sure why the 1st one, which was supposed to be the same model had two screw you had to remove first, oh well, all is welll. thank you ever so much for responding.

elvmn12000 With the DC25 it is very unlikely that the problem is in the cyclone pack, when I fixed a DC25 for a friend I looked into disassembling the cyclone pack and couldn't see an easy way to do it without destroying the cyclone pack. The problem with their DC25 was that there was a clog in the tube behind the floor head and for the wand the elbow join at the bottom that gets pushed open when you click the wand all the way down would not always close when you took the want out. If you have another vacuum take the cyclone pack off your DC25 and put suction on the various DC25 ports to try and find the blockage, you can also use this test on the cyclone pack itself to see if it is clogged.

I didn't find any blockage but I did take the roller section off, I didn't find any blockage but it seemed to have worked. I'm not sure what it was but I'm getting better suction ... Thanks!

I have not taken apart a DC28 but the general idea on disassembling might be similar. However it will probably look very different and not have as many parts since the DC17 uses Level 3 Root Cyclone and I think the DC28 uses the simpler Root Cyclone system. I would see if the dust shroud (the thing with all the little holes) will slide off and reveal any hidden screws first. Good Luck

+mek4321 It's the blue part at 2:15. I have annotations turned on but there aren't any visible? I see I needed that special screw driver now. I have one with interchangeable heads, but mine isn't long enough to get at the screws inbetween the chambers, so I'll have to get a longer one. Thanks for the video mek:)

the main reason to disassemble is if the one of the cyclones is clogged, I had cleaned this one several months b4 this video, only made this video for demonstrational purposes

As stated above, they will get completely clogged with hair, dirt, dust and it won't work 'as well'. This is a good depiction of how to clean it, maybe once every couple years to keep it operating tip top! Thank you for taking the time to create this video!

+Sean Brennan I appreciate the video. Always good to know how to take something apart to fix or clean. I used my garden hose to simply clean the canister without taking it apart. It worked very well. As a precaution, I dried it out over an air vent in the living room for a day before reinstalling it. Looked brand new when I finished. First time cleaned in 4 years.
