How to replace the hose on the Dyson DC17 series vacuum cleaners. Works for DC17 Animal, DC17 Absolute or any other DC17 models. Covers DC17 disassembly, prying hose pieces apart and reassembly.
I was able to replace my hose in less than 30 minutes wathcning your video. Now I hope my Dyson can last another 15+ years. Thank you so much for posting this!!!
Thank you. Couldn't get the wand back down because there was pencil stuck at the bottom of the hose. This was the only video I could find that showed me how to remove the hose on my model. Feels great to get it fixed.
Thanks! Bonus tip: I found the top part/attachment will actually slide through the bottom opening without prying anything apart, making process even easier.
This helped a lot. I would have gotten it done but it would have taken me a lot longer. Yur instructions saved me time for sure. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
Thank you Huge Help. I actually didn't take off the cord winding tab like you did the very beginning and it still worked. I would have ruined something without this video.
great job at describing and video taping the entire procedure. it took less than 10 minutes to do the entire hose switch. thank you and keep up putting video that can help others.
There is a much easier way. Just take the canister off open the washable filter compartment. then there is enough room for the hose to slid down and out the bottom without taking it apart.. I bought a replacement part from Dyson. Came with instructions.
I checked before doing the repair as described in the video and my DC 17 Animal doesn't have a way to get the hose through that compartment. Maybe on certain ones can do that.
Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!! The disinformation on this is freaking unreal. I didn't remember going through this craziness the last time I replaced the hose, but was beginning to doubt myself & wondering if I was taking crazy pills. There are a couple keys here: 1) the filter cap needs to be flipped up 2) if half a roll of duct tape has found it's way onto the wand end of the hose, you need to remove it 3) don't be afraid of using a little muscle b/c odds are the hose you're removing is junk 4a) if you think you're overdoing it or you have adhesive residue from duct tape, a shot of WD-40 or cooking oil will make things go much more smoothly 4b) pretty sure all of the components won't be affected by silicone lubricant such as WD-40, but to minimize any possible risk & mess, spray the lubricant onto a rag/paper towel & wipe the wand end & the interior of the flared collar at the bottom of the vacuum 4c) to further mitigate risk & mess, clean any lubricated parts with some rubbing alcohol the moment you get the wand end of the new hose clear of the collar
And here I am 50 minutes later, repair completed! I cannot thank you enough, you saved me big bucks as I was going to take it to a repair shop next. :)
Thank you - The information was very helpful! I originally was trying to take the cap off the wrong end of the hose, so your video saved me a lot of time and aggravation!
THANK YOU! After searching video after video I finally found one that was not only direct and to the point but told me exactly what I needed to know.... can't thank you enough!
Seconding what Mike P said. If you simply take off the canister, the hose will slide out without having to pry anything off the end of the new or old hoses. I replaced mine with in about 2 minutes with an aftermarket purchase from amazon.
Thank you so much for your video! I was able to follow your steps perfectly and changed it in 5 min's! I appreciate you taking the time to upload this. I"m sure you saved me alot of frustration! I LOVE YOU TUBE FOR THIS REASON!
Followed the instructions which worked well. Thank you. However there are a few changes I would make: 1) See the comment from Mike Parker below on the easier method. 2) If you follow the method in the video, at 1:07 I would approach the little black tabs from the top of the machine rather than the bottom. Pushing them in and down while pulling on the black part of the hose rather than prying the plastic. This would avoid potentially breaking a plastic piece that would be hard to replace. 3) At 1:44 after removing the hard plastic piece as shown I would just use your fingers to pinch the pliable plastic from one side to the other to then pull and work the little black plastic tab out of the cutout. Perform this on both sides. My replacement hose came with a new hard plastic and soft plastic pieces, so I had to remove the pieces but you don't want to potentially use a screwdriver or other sharp tool that might puncture you brand new hose. Note: You can do a temporary repair on your hose using light weight flexible duct tape to wrap over the holes if they are not too big. This works for awhile, but eventually the wand gets stuck on the tape and it's a pain to get it to slide back in the "repaired" hose. Question: At 2:05 does someone fart in the video? Just wondering.
A great big Mahalo for this video lesson, it was sooooo helpful and .... saved me from hurting myself or tearing the vacuum parts!!!!! Note: on mine, I did not have to remove the hook part at the bottom that the cord wraps around. I cannot believe I did this ~ ~ hooray!!!!! xoxoxo
Thank you so much for posting this! I was getting mad and ready to throw my Dyson across the room! Haha I got my hose and other dyson parts from amazon also 😃
I can't get the handle to release from the vacuum. The wand slides up easily, but seems like there should be a release button to get it to separate from the canine handle. Please help!!!
Thank you for posting this. It convinced me to give it a shot & it worked! Much cheaper and easier, really, than taking it to a vacuum cleaner repair shop.
