Ever since I was a young boy I loved vacuum cleaners I don’t know why
However there is an obvious design flaw in Dyson’s most premium cordless cleaners.

Dyson know about this problem and should recall them all, I'm really fed up with mine, it's less than 2 Yrs old and the bin won't open at all!

Todd - thank you !! i've been through a lot with this problem on my much loved V10 absolute that i got in late 2018, best most powerful effective vacuum i ever had, totally hooked but in around September 2020, the bin came flying off when i emptied it. i turned to RU-vid and a guy had posted a video about this and showing where the piece on his broke off, and mine had the same thing. I can't really see it or notice it, if not for him pointing it out. i'm not handy with repairs and tools. if i didn't know where the problem was, i would have thought nothing was wrong with it, but i could feel jagged edges on the very small area where the piece had broken off. He said after looking into it , he found that it couldn't be fixed. oh no! i called Dyson support and a representative said he was sending me a new bin, still under warranty, the 2 year warranty was extendable then. i told him it wasn't the bin, it was that piece of plastic that blocks the bin from falling out.. He seemed not to know what i meant and insisted on sending me the new bin and that it would fix the problem. The bin eventually arrived and as expected, the new one didn't stay on either. i called Dyson back. i told them that i had told the other rep it wasn't the bin and i was frustrated, super long hold times, i thought i was going to have to convince them it wasn't the bin. i told them about the you tube video. The real problem was readily acknowledged and the only solution was to send me a whole new motor assembly (is that what it's called?). but unfortunately they were out of those parts currently. They were expecting more in soon. They took my name and email and said i would be contacted when the new parts were in, about 2 weeks. No one ever contacted me. i called back. Still no new parts. Not even any idea when they might have them. ?? it was a $750 or so vacuum cleaner. Eventually , more weeks , more calls, 1-2 hour hold times, clearly not the representatives' fault but i had to keep trying because no one at Dyson was going to keep on it til it was solved, it had to be me.. Finally an escalated higher up support person said she would send me a whole new vacuum, different color, and i could send that new vacuum back to them and include my broken part in the package and replace it with the one from the new vacuum. This would have been a good solution except when i tried vacuuming with the new one, the first thing i noticed was that it didn't sound the same as my first one. it was a lower pitch. i was hoping for an exact replacement if the original could't be fixed. oh well. i thought it was probably just a harmless different sound.. but it bothered me. After using it a few times, i could see it's not as powerful as my first one. i have to use the high setting much of the time,. i almost never used it on the first one. and, so, the battery charge doesn't last very long, using the high setting.. I could not go backward from the wonderful powerful best ever vacuum cleaner i had. i tried to call them but their phone lines were overloaded i guess, they weren't working. I ended up deciding to keep the new one and not send it back because i wasn't willing to give up my better one with the broken piece of black plastic that stops the bin from falling out . i decided they could contact me once they got their phones working. Honestly though, i felt extremely demoralized, like there was no solution for my still new powerful vacuum, two years old---Dyson used to have basic 7 year warranties and longer when i first started buying their stuff. Their stuff lasted., i would just keep using it and i would empty it manually, inconvenient but what else could i do? . The new one they sent me works well other than not being as powerful as my first one. i still have all the hanging tags on the newer vacuum, and all the other pieces are in the original box. i just use the handheld part as a back up to use, and i really enjoy how easily it empties.. it wasn't until i found your video just now that i found out what the broken part is called !!! it was awful to have to use whole sentences to describe the problem. No one at Dyson support could tell me what it was called. i'm really grateful that you posted this informative video. im so glad your problem was fixable with the replacement and you know how to repair the original problem so you have one share. . i'm not going to be able to do the repair you described, i don't have the experience or skill or the tools. I would like to clarify. Would you say that replacing the bin rail runner is not something Dyson will do? I live only about 10 minutes from a Dyson service place. Do you think they would or would not do that repair? Do you think that Dyson doesn't have that part and they prefer to send out a whole new motor assembly, or whatever it's called? i'm determined to have my powerful vacuum fixed. Right now, the sealing ring, that part with a red suction ring and a plastic black or silver ring, has fallen off inside the canister so i want to have the fixed too. Do you think any vacuum repair shop could fix it ? if they are Dyson authorized, would that be a problem do you think? I can't tell how great it is to know what the broken part is called and to learn that my loved vacuum cleaner can be repaired. It's been about a year and a half since i found my self at a dead end. i just couldn't accept that the good parts of mine can't be installed into the part that broke on mine. Now i have real hope. i was surprised there weren't more videos about this. Probably it's because i wasn't using the right search terms.

Hey I am so sorry for just now seeing this comment I would say a repair shop could handle a repair like this.. there’s another few videos about this now on how to replace it on a slightly newer model. Albeit same steps to take.

@@ToddBoniface thanks for the reply. youtube used to send me notifications when someone would post on a discussion i'm a part of but they don't anymore , your message came 2 months ago it says. thanks for letting me know about the other videos. i might try to call Dyson, but i made so many calls to them on this before, taking one to two hours every time with no result, just a waste of time, that i finally said i'm not doing it anymore . But now that i know there's a part, i'll start by asking them to fix it, i literally live 15 minutes from a Dyson store. Since i wrote the first message, the battery went dead on that vacuum.. I hope i can get a new battery and have that replaced at the same time. The second vacuum they sent me has just developed a problem today---it looks fine, no warning lights, but it has no suction. The filter was dirty so i took it off and put a new clean filter on it and it still has no suction, 2 year old vacuum. Unlike all my other dyson products, this one isn't registered to me, it never showed up in their system, by it's S/N. but i 'll try to find out how to get that one fixed too. thanks for your reply and your super helpful first video.

2 years guarantee off and the next day the bin flies off, but what's strange is that that plastic piece is not broken! No idea what to do now

Almost been two years now and it’s still OK. And my mother now has the ‘new’ one :)

The screw is a POSIDRIVE screw. Identified by the four little "whiskers" between in the corners of the cross on the head of the screw. A POSI screwdriver has four extra little protrusions on the head that appear to MATCH those "whiskers". Too much use of a Philips driver will damage the head and vice versa using a Posi on a Philips will eventually do neither the screw head nor the screwdriver any good.

The bin on mine got stuck - dyson sent me a replacement without the long gray plastic bit so I am emptying this $1,000 machine buy pushing on a tiny screw with my thumb- wish I avoided dyson altogether. Was not worth the money - especially with other better models available elsewhere.

Don't you just hate it when things break right after the warranty ends? I do too haha.
