@@barryg41 Interesting; many Dyson brand haters, who scrape the barrel for things to criticise, complain about the 'short' length of the warranty. I dread to think how they'd react to someone who suggests they'd wilfully jettison the warranty. That is, except when it's needed (cough...two replacement heads...cough). :) Anyway, each to their own, but many viewers could be misled and think playing with the innards is beneficial rather than the harmful reality. :/ So I just felt duty-bound to provide a friendly counterpoint for people to consider. :)

In having read through ALL of your comments here, do you treat your viewers on YOUR channel like they are, well, dumb? Its just that in conjunction with the obvious self promotion here, your uses of 'DYSON HATERS', 'NEVER','NEVER EVER','CAN'T''DON'T. Well,..... could put people off... Its not an EKG nor an MRI. I will touch on one scenario for you ....since you brought it up, in consideration that the unit in the video, has never been opened before and the seal were already binding during bin opening . Lets pretend they weren't binding, and someone vacuumed up dog crap. According to you… "Never ever wet anything other than the filter. Seals (e.g. on the bin) should never be wetted or washed as it removes the lubrication; you can always tell when someone has done this and doesn't understand because they then have difficulty opening the bin afterwards, risking further damage from forcing. " 'Never ever' is profound when having to was out a bin and pipes full of dog crap, this really could be anything undesirable caught in the bin. You get the point. Your assumption that the rubber seal lubricant was not approved for rubber seals was presumptuous. Lastly on that matter, the machine in question, having never been exposed to water was binding, humid environment, where it is well known, dry lubricants can easily become less effective when doped with other matter in the presence of moisture (like dirt, emptying from the front) I could pick apart the rest of what you had written, but I’m busy, were done.

@@retrotechandelectronics Hi. I think it’s a little unfair to suggest I treat my viewers as though they are dumb. If you’ve genuinely read through ALL the comments on my channel, you’d see that I always treat respectable people with respect and go out of my way to help them. Some people though, make a factual claims which are false, and in that case, I help by pointing them to the evidence explaining why. At this stage, a few get very hostile and nasty, making personal attacks and spouting hostile rants, which is unfortunate. Even then I’m usually tolerant to a degree, but when it’s combined with showing no signs of listening to reason, I make sure they know that behaviour is not tolerated by me. That’s perfectly par for the course on a public forum. The only people who are put off my channel are those who identify with the wrongdoers or whose subjective worldview is at odds with reality and they don’t like hearing it, even if, as is the case for some people, they reluctantly agree. I’m more than willing to engage people in civil debate on matters of fact. RE seals; the manual explicitly states to dry wipe them and not to use polishes etc. In fact, in your video, you nicely show the problem of wetting seals-they become sticky and the bin is really hard to open. That should never happen because it can risk damage when forcing it open. Dry powder is used in the factory to ensure this is avoided. I’ve seen no evidence anywhere under higher humidity of dust getting wet. In fact, you’d have to get near supersaturated conditions to hygroscopically activate these particles, which isn’t a normal environment within the home. And even then, a dry wipe will fix it if even necessary. By the same token, liquids cause gunk in exactly the same way, as dust etc. absorbs it over time, the lubricant can also spread, it costs money, and some products are known chlorinated rubber solvents which can destroy seals. People may not know this. Best is to just dry wipe them and let natural dust be the lubricant. Always happy to see direct, strong, convincing, evidence to the contrary. :) All the best.

Thank you for this! I just got a second hand v11 and it had a really bad sticking problem. I didnt have the grease used in the video but had this on hand and it really helped! Still not perfect but at least its usable now.

I had unwittingly used mine for some Sheetrock cleanup soon after purchase so there was an immediate need. Compressed air can usually do the job if done as a regular maintenance practice AND you don't vacuum up liquid.

While possible I don't recollect ever doing this....

Youre welcome. Aside from the ring issue posted in the other video I have no complaints after all of the time since posting.

Those rubber seals don't respond well to becoming overly wet. If you do wet them, let the canister remain unattached for a few hours until they have a chance to dry out completely. I found this lessens the excessive friction. Plus, I like to lube everything with "Super Slick Slick Stuff". You can find it at Lowes. Best stuff ever. I was having the same problem you described, but after allowing the drying, and lubing the release mechanism, it glides like a dream.

Silicone grease for lubrication & just soapy water to clean. Although Dyson recommend not to clean the gaskets. Fine dust will stop binding.

I would not recommend attempting this. Also small compressors are quite cheap

It’s better to use fine powder.

The compressed air won't blow any air into the motor, it's a safe procedure. Any motor parts will be greased and completely sealed. The grease is made to last the life of the vacuum without servicing.

Thank you for the reply; however, at 6:47 seconds, it looks like some sort of lubricant out of an aerosol can is being applied to a Q-tip. It was that substance in the can that I was referring to.
