This week I started restricting my phosphorous to no more than 1000 mgs after your episodes 13 and 14 on phosphorous. I'm almost 100% on plant food based diet except for 1 egg for breakfast. I love sunflower seeds but learned they are extremely high in phosphorous. Started to keep food diary. Learned so much watching your videos. Thank you Dr Hasmi and Ms Crosmer.

Thanks to both of you. I just wanted to know direct relationship between serum calcium and phosphorus. Earlier my calcium level was below 8 and phosphorus level also below the range but of late calcium has reached 8.8 but no change in phosphorus level. Any advice or comment.

For many years I drank about 4 to 8 cans of Pepsi/Coke/Dr.Pepper/day. All of which contain phosphoric acid. I wonder now if my high energy was coming from conversion of phosphorus to ATP and not just caffeine? My arthritis has been reducing over the past 15 years since I stopped. Could there be a connection?

We use Amaranth greens in our meals regularly. I am now told it is rich in phosphorus. Could you tell me whether we could continue to eat it with our meals (Rice and curry)?

I found your channel as a result of a link on a CKD pain management topic. I look forward to watching them this weekend. Normally, I would watch the videos first, but I saw that you were taking questions for future episodes and wanted to ge mine in. I am wondering if any of your videos address oxalate. My levels over the past 2 years have gone up and down like a yo-yo and I am again at stage 3. This time along with limiting protein, I have to limit phosphates and oxalate. I am hoping that you will, if you have not already done so, address trying to accomplish such a change in eating habits. It is confusing especially since those last 2 are often not listed and there is such a diversity of numbers based on how the item is prepared (canned, fresh, frozen, with or without skins, boiled or baked, etc.) so it's difficult to create comprehensive lists for shopping I suffer from chronic migraines starting 32 years ago, which has it's own requirements, and bilateral neuropathy, which has it's own pain levels, and arthritis in my knees. It definitely limits pain medications. Have you or will you address dealing with pain with CKD?

My phosporous levels were high last month, my nephrologist made me take selevamer carbonate. I was born with one kidney, 50 yrs old and creatinine is at 1.08. Recent lab test shows my phos level at a normal range. Is this a lifetime medicine?

I have high phosphorus due to my parathyroid Hashimoto, so my parathyroid sends out too much hormone to disperse the phosphorus? Which then ….it’s confusing

I am already on a vegan diet and rarely eat meat substitutes. I eat whole grains (rye mostly) and so on. I recently got my bloodwork, and I have calcium to phosphorus ratio at 1.9 despite having calcium at the high end of the normal range (phosphorus too). How am I supposed to lower my phosphorus if it's in everything? I eat 3 slices of bread and I'm already over the RDA.

Since you were talking about protein as well in this video… When I was first diagnosed last year I went on a pescatarian diet, because fish is supposed to be good for kidneys. But what happened was it gave me Proteinuria. So I did a strictly vegan diet throughout the whole summer and finished up in July. After my bloodwork I could see that my protein was/is still high on fruits and vegetables 🥕🥦????? What the heck? Apparently my a body is absorbing all of the protein in everything that I eat… even plants 🪴. SMH 🤦‍♀️ What is going on? I know my kidneys are not flushing out the protein, but how do I get this-ISH out of my body?

I don't believe it before because I'm just in stage 1 to stage 2 CKD I consume 10 cups of instant coffee a day loaded with "creamer" and that itching starts. I go to black coffee instead, and that itching stops. whew!

So does that mean if someone has a high serum phosphorus that they should stop vitamin D supplementation until those values go down? My vitamin D levels are within mid normal range, but I was supplementing with Vitamin D anyway, but now my phosphorus is elevated, so should I stop supplementation?
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth 2 года назад
We will make sure to address vit D and phosphorus relationship more specifically in an upcoming episode! Usually if someone is on an active form of Vitamin D (like Calcitriol or Hectorol), the dose will be adjusted if phosphorus levels are very high. For Vitamin D3 (not an active form), this is usually not the case. Though it is important to discuss your labs in detail with your nephrologist and dietitian!

Chitosan chewing gum I read can diminish phosphorus, problem is, where to source it. You might use ordinary chewing gum rolled in chitosan.

Nutritional yeast?
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth 2 года назад
Nutritional yeast is ~ 175 mg phosphorus per 2 Tbsp. portion. Since it is a plant source ~50% of the phos is absorbed.
