With a streamlined design focused on carrying a centerline-mounted cannon to deliver incredible firepower with pinpoint accuracy, and as the first fighter equipped with tricycle landing gear, the Bell Aircraft P-39 Airacobra was both innovative and unique. It was one of the principal American fighters in service when the U.S. entered World War II, and also went on to be used by other Air Forces on various fronts throughout the war. The E-flite® P-39 Airacobra 1.2m is a scale replica of the unconventional fighter that’s equipped with functional retractable landing gear and split flaps, plus a 3S and 4S compatible power system to deliver a unique warbird experience while also being easy to fly when it’s equipped with exclusive AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies (included with the BNF® Basic version only).

This plane looks fantastic!! Wow what a year so far for Horizon!! I purchased 4 of your new jets, and now time to add more to my Warbird collection!! The best part for all of them is Safe Select. I can hit a switch and my 11 year old son can fly around with me. 😀. Thanks Horizon for making this so easy to fly and have fun!

Finally!!! I remember waaaayyy back when the First T-28 Trojan came out. About an hour into flying it and enjoying the trike gear, I just kept thinking how nice it would be if it was a P-39 warbird!

Perfect! My gaze is heading back to Horizon from other bands. There are so many famous planes out there that just get repeated. Thank you for broadening your offerings! I am purchasing this. Here are my humble requests: Revisit the WWI EPO planes (maybe re-release the Albatross and SE5a), Everyone has F8F's and F4U's, Please release an F6F Hellcat in the 1.2m format. This overlooked plane won the air in the Pacific and only Dynam offers it (horrible quality).

nice review - one question please the retracts and steerable nose wheel features on these war birds are problematic. Have any improvements been made for retracts and nose wheel steering on this P-39 ? Will they last or is it the same old - one hard landing on the nose and the front gear is shot, and after a while get out the knife and carve out some foam so the gear will go all the way up or down ???

So i still have the only flying scale motor mount position P39 around? I know it was a pain to get it all to work, but its kinda cool to open the hatch and in the rear is the motor sitting. :) but ill still own one of these as well😁

I have one of these and love the plane. One bone to pick...how in world do you get the nose gear shaft attached inside the servo?? I've tried and have destroyed the servo. The c clamp that came with the new nose gear just falls off and now is broken. I have searhed youtube and nothing on how to replace the nose gear. Majorly disappointed and extremely frustrated.

Hello! I bought this plane the other day and had a huge problem I'm hoping you could help me with.. I set everything up according to the manual on my old school Dx8. I'm using a 4s 2200 battery, and placed it on the battery tray and slid it all the way up like in the manual. I noticed as soon as it took off it felt like there was a ton of bricks in the nose, and the plane was wanting to dive straight down. I took it out of Safe mode, and it was still wanting to go straight down. Pulling all the way back on the elevator it only climbed just a very small amount, and I barely got it down on the runway. I've been flying for over 7 years now, and have never had this kind of problem. I adjust the push rod to give it a little bit of up elevator, but I'm kind of scared to try it again! Are you guys sure the battery goes all the way into the nose? I'm really confused on what could of caused the plane to fly this poorly! Thanks!

P39 is my favorite, Jason you should check out Air Aces on AHC "American Heroes Channel" They recently did a documentary on the P39. If I can find it here on RU-vid I'll link it, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it!

Solid and strong (metal) music wire with decorative strut covers. They have proven to be very durable for takeoffs and landings on smooth surfaces, and on many grass surfaces too!

Should have used the Russian livery of that aircraft. These planes were given to Russia when the US Air Corp and RAF didn't want it. Ended up becoming one of Russia's favorite fighter and highly respected among them. On a side note, no E-Flite Warbird will work with SAFE correctly with a DX6 radio (retracts up = No Safe / retracks down = Safe) out of the box. You need to ad a servo Reversing Y-Harness to the retracts slot (slot 5) on the receiver and attach the stock retracts harness to that. Then it will work correctly. This also applies to the flaps.

Can you explain that? There is no Retracts slot that I know of. Do you mean Channel? Such as channel 5 or channel 6? Saying Retracts slot is confusing. Most receivers are numbered and assigned a switch to operate from. So safe would be designated a switch seperate from retracts. They wouldnt be on the same channel as safe that I am aware of.

@@scottfirman Yes, I mean slot 5 on the receiver which is where retracts goes. On a DX6, you don't have enough channels to have SAFE Select on a separate channel, it must be tied to either the retracts or flaps. However, it works backwards from what most people would want, which is SAFE on when the gear is up or flaps are up. Most want SAFE on when landing, which you cannot do out of the box. You must use a servo reversing y-harness to make it work correctly.

Yes, if you'd like to use SAFE Select on the retract channel with a 6-channel transmitter you will need to use a reversing harness/y-harness. However, you can use SAFE Select on the flap channel and have it operate as desired (flaps up = SAFE Select OFF / flaps down = SAFE Select ON) without the need for any different connections/harnesses, as noted around the 3:15 mark in this video. This is why E-flite officially recommends using the flap channel and not the retract channel with a 6-channel transmitter.

You can use the flap system and/or flap channel reversing to make SAFE Select operate as desired on the flap channel (flaps up = SAFE Select OFF / flaps down = SAFE Select ON) without the need for a reversing harness/y-harness (you may just need to use negative/opposite values for the flap system travel and/or reversing to make it work...as recommended in the E-flite manuals/addendums related to this).

@@jm_hh NO you cannot have flaps up with SAFE Select off, he is wrong. Once the system detects flaps are at least 50%, they will automatically engage SAFE On. I've tried this with Horizon Customer support. Once you adjust the flaps "straight", the SAFE will automatically go on. You mus also use a Reverse Y-harness on the flaps should you decide to go that route.
