I've always been taught to go by the 5 hp per foot rule. 20-25 hp = 48 inch. 25-30 hp = 60 inch. Ect, ect.

I’ve heard that as a rule of thumb as well. Lots of people out there damaging these small tractors without realizing it. It may not break right away but overtime you are going to damage the tractor if you go to large on implements.

I have the same Frontier as you on a 2025R. Trying to maintain RPM in 4 wheel dive going up real steep hills requires going 1/4 speed as going down hill. Tractor HP at 25 HP engine is just barely enough. Great video and well thought out,

Yea the first time I noticed it I couldn’t believe the difference between up hill and downhill. How do you like the 2025R. Have never really looked into that model. Thanks for watching! Jason

I feel it's underpowered for my needs a bit but works great. The seat is so much better than the smaller X750. I don't use the mid mount mower any more. I/'d like to have a hydraulic top link but make due so far. Keep up the great work!@@HardyLifeOutdoors

I have the 4052R for bigger projects which makes for a nice balance between a small compact and a decent sized tractor.

I have an earlier model (2017 1025R). I highly recommend the Power Beyond add-on with the Summit Hydraulics hydraulic top link add on. Especially for the rotary tiller, the hydraulic toplink makes tweaking the setup (angle, lift, etc.) a matter of a couple of button pushes rather. The rear wheel should not be in the air which you seem to be saying you do (sorry if I misunderstood). If you look there is an amount of travel in the 'slider' just behind/below where the top link hooks in. The purpose of this is to absorb terrain irregulates and maintain the shredder in a 'level' posture so that neither digs in nor skips in the air.

Thanks for commenting and sharing your thoughts. I do carry the cutter with the wheel off the ground when traveling from the barn to the field. Once in the field I always have the wheel on the ground. (So while mowing it is on the ground). I’ll have to check out the add-ons you mention.

My dealer actually told me that i could handle a 6 footer on my 3039R. He may be right when it comes to pto hp. But i have always preferred bush hogging with the loader off. I purchased the JD MX-5 cutter, and its a heavy cutter. Mowing without the loader creates a issue with a heavier cutter. So i use 8-70lb suitcase wieghts on front to help counter wieght. But i know it would never handle a MX6 (over 1000lbs).

Sounds like you have a pretty good setup and approach to it all. I hear people running the 1025R with 5-6 foot brush hogs and they are simply too big for that tractor. I always now with the loader bucket off for improved visibility and turn radius. Thanks for watching and commenting! Jason
