It is amazing what you can learn from university of Utube. Thank you for creating the other videos on how to do this. Maybe more people need do this also. God bless both of you .
Very good video! Thank you from Saskatchewan! You're right, there aren't many tutorials available for welding plastics. This was very helpful and I will be sure to watch the other videos about it as well. Merci!
How are these tanks holding up? Where did you get your ldpe fittings from?Wow! Thank you, so much! I'm in the same boat as you were where you couldn't find anything but people doing small projects with Jack leg solutions. This is exactly the information I was looking for to build a couple custom tanks to fit between the floor joists of my cargo trailer! Thank you, so much!
My biggest fear would be welding leaks. Even the professionals using professional tools have issues with imperfect plastic welds and have special tools to detect them. In Silvie's defense, I think pressurizing the tanks was a great idea, and your tanks are likely stronger now than they would have been had you not discovered the weak points. Filling a stationary tank with water is one thing, having several hundred pounds of water (or sewage) sloshing around in a bay going down the road is another. Best to find out now. How many PSI did you pressurize?
@@LacroixCruiser 30 psi. Wow, that is a lot for something like this. 😃 But I think Dell is right. Those leaks would have developed down the road anyways.
Jean-Marc. It seems to me that your tanks being very long, when you placed them on your rafters to check if there were leaks, were certainly too far apart. This must have created a bending of the central part and the separation of the weld. This is why it seems to me that a square aluminum frame and two belts distributed along the length seem essential to me. Jean-Marc.
Is the gun with the blower part the entire welder or where is the heat coming from? Is it attached to something else? Looking at making some water tanks myself and not finding a ton of info out there in the wild.
I’ve never seen a weight published. In our rear bay we have 125 gallons of water, a 400lb generator, 500 lbs of tools, and 300lbs of detailing supplies.
I tried to make a tank using this process and failed. Couldn't get it not to leak because of poor welds. If I were to try again I'd use nitrogen instead of air for the welding.
How thick was your plastic that you bought? I'm trying to find out if making my own tanks is cheaper or a better alternative... I just don't know how thick the plastic needs to be to be sturdy enough.
Thanks a bunch for your thorough video. I´m about to get into constructing a custom tank for my RV. I need to know though, because the water tank in my vehicle is gonna be a supply for both shower and the regular tab, so is the materials and the methods you use food grade? I wont be using the water from the tank for ingestion, but for rinsing vegetables, doing dishes, for brushing my teeth and taking a shower. I hope you´ll take the time to answer my question. Cheers.
Hello and thank you for sharing your videos. Can you tell us what type of PVC you are welding here, it is not stated in the description. There is no merchant link either. I wanted to ask you why, on the internal part of your tank, you do not glue corner angles of the same material with a Sika for example..! Then come and weld it in order to secure your welds and ensure a perfect seal..? This is what I would do I think, in order to avoid future inconveniences. Kind regards Jean-Marc from the west of France, not far from Nantes
@@LacroixCruiser I meant what kind of fitting did you put on the tanks to hook to your air compressor? Also, I am assuming that the final side you welded was only welded on the outside and did not connect to the baffles?
Just a 1/2 npt fitting. The top was just welded on the outside of the tanks, and the baffles do no go to the top of the tanks to not create any air pockets.
If I may ask, how much did the materials cost to make 2 tanks that size? I ask because I sourced two 165 gallon tanks and the total was just over 1600 USD. I know I can rent the heat gun a welding tips from my local home Depot for relatively cheap, so if the materials aren't too expensive I may do the same thing with my bus. Moreso for the reason of better accuracy for placement of the fittings like you did taking the base in and lining it up first. Keep up the great work though!
@@LacroixCruiser ahh that makes sense! There is only three big plastic wholesalers in the entire Central Florida area so that explains the pricing. It's still cheaper than buying pre-made tanks though and I think it will be easier to install my own fittings once I get all of my plumbing lined up. So I will be following your tag build with mine!
So annoying to be forced to listen to two different languages repeating the exact same thing and spending twice the time on the video. Why not place English subtitles and speak French or French subtitles and speak English? Either way is an improvement.
We don’t do this to make a living, we do it to provide education for others to benefit. Time spent editing is time we are not spending working on the bus, or with our grandchildren, simply not time we want to invest.
Just enjoy the video. They put a ton of time into making these. You know you can fast forward the French parts or English parts. Takes very little time to fast forward.
Fun fact: It took a while before I realized that his wife is speaking France language ;-) Lucky for me I understand both. J'apprends beaucoup de toi, merci !
Just an idea: if you made 2 separate videos each in there own language would cut the video in half and the viewer could choose which language to listen to
@@LacroixCruiser I’m going to be building a plastic Jon boat out of HDPE rain barrels and I need the fuse at least three of them together so I need to get a good welder that will make it the three pieces one so I can make a good shallow water impact resistant boat that is flexible.
