1998 (NA) will always be my favorite year for video games; Metal Gear Solid, MediEvil, Spyro the Dragon, Half-Life, Baldur’s Gate, Parasite Eve, Resident Evil 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Starcraft, Xenogears, Panzer Dragoon Saga, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Banjo-Kazooie, Grim Fandango, Thief: The Dark Project, F-Zero X, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Gex: Enter the Gecko, Radiant Silvergun, Tekken 3, Breath of Fire III, and Mega Man Legends.
It's crazy to think how these games were once brand-new IPs. Now we often wait for new entries in these game series, which isn't a bad thing. But it puts things into perspective with newer games nowadays.
The Konami pr guy did a a major spoiler for MGS and got away with it. Gotta love the pre internet days. He said that Solid Snake is an genetic enhanced super soldier. That plot twist was not revealed until the end of MGS 1.. In the games before MGS Snake was a normal guy.
I was there! My brother did work with the developers of Starship Titanic and was able to take me with him. I was 12, to my knowledge I was one of only a handful of people under 18 there. The MGS demo was insane. Guys dressed as snake and Vulcan raven. Took a while to get me a pass but when we did it was incredible. May 98 was a great time to be a gamer.
