CryoJnik I think you're mistaken. Most people don't give a damn about it. Just that the story rings true. The only reason this catches flack is because of bad timing. There are a lot of cases where such things aren't actually the problem. But they try to tell you it is. For example. It isn't that the comics Ice Man is gay. No one would have a problem with that. It's that the character is written 90s stereotypically offensively gay (according to the standers set by that community mind you). Also because the writer story telling doesn't make sense. But no, apparently we just don't like "insert group here." *No one* has a problem with Ellie. Unless it's not their game or she isn't their character type in general. But that isn't a bad thing. Just preference. There are plenty of times when such characters are woven in well. I liked how Orville did it. The character of Bortis and his mate. They aren't jarring or abrupt. Hell they even tackled trans issues the way you'd expect a show like Star Trek to. Speaking of which Discovery did it well in that regard too. Write a good story. Some people are better social advocates than they are writers. There is nothing wrong with that. Go be an amazing advocate for social change. But some people don't know how to do both at the same time. And that's where they mess up. And instead of saying, "I messed up." They shuffle the blame other places and fail to respect the followings certain stories have cultivated for a long time. Don't crap where you eat if you're thing is to bring in money.
