E30 M20 rear main seal, clutch, transmission and transfer case replacement

"Quick" video of me installing a new rear main seal, Clutchmasters stage 2 clutch, freshly resealed transmission, and my spare resealed transfer case. Sloppy editing but I thought I'd share some progress of me putting my E30 iX back together. Enjoy. Let me know if you have any questions if I left something out. I didn't get most of the transmission reinstallation because of the lack of space underneath the car while recording. Enjoy.

awesome video dude. I appreciate the good lighting for shots, a lot of ppl have bad shots and have no idea whats going on in the vid. im trying to get ready to replace my clutch on my ix so this is very helpful. I'm pretty novice so I'm shitting my pants a little but am gonna just see what happens

Thanks for the feedback. I felt the same way the first time I replaced a clutch on my first ix but it’s not that bad. Just organize all your bolts. Let me know if you get stuck and need advice.

Hey man, great videos, quick question. For some reason my dowel pin on the rear of the crank is screwed up and stripped my bolts. Is it necessary or can i just leave that thing out? I bought all new flywheel bolts, and was planning on reusing one of the old bolts. Thanks again!

I wouldn’t leave the dowel out, it’s there to align everything before you put the bolts in. That’s just me though.

@@85garage You're right, I'm not sure what the deal is, the dowel is like bent slightly, I tried straightening it but it won't. I'll grind it out a bit to space it for the bolt. I swear this engine has been fighting me every which way, I wish I knew what the last owners did with this thing.

@@JHMBB2is just the threads in the hole the dowel sits in stripped? It’s hard to say what to do in this situation because it’s not like you can unbolt that hub from the back of the crank and get it machined or something.

@@85garage the threads in the crank are fine, I removed the dowel and screwed in the bolt, but the bolt doesn’t fit through the dowel. I have the whole engine/trans/transfer case out from rebuilding the engine. Finally was putting the finishing touches to put the assembly together and this happened! Ha

@@85garage never mind, someone put the wrong dowel in the crank. It’s tapered, which is why nothing worked. I remember struggling to remove the bolt but this was over a year ago. Ughhh

Awesome! Thank you for sharing. Wanted to ask, after the clutch, flywheel, any info on the parts, what to do between the clutch and the transmission? Someone gave me an ix with engine, tranny out. Missing flywheel. Brand new clutch. Been spending time on realoem to find out what it needs and looking up info on what to do. Thank you so much! Love your videos!

Thanks for the feedback! I would make sure you put a new pilot bearing in. Besides that, there is the flywheel and the circular plate you see me bolt on in this video. Then the clutch gets installed over that. On the transmission side make sure you install a new throw out bearing and check the plastic pivot pin. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Great videos! Thank you for sharing. The reason I came across them is because Im in the middle of removing my ix Tcase from the transmission. What tools did you use to remove the guibo from transmission? Cant get in impact on it. Not enough room. And two 19 mm wrenches is getting me no where. Thanks for any suggestions.

You need a swivel socket and a couple 6” extensions for the top two bolts. It’s not easy but you’ll get it. I’ve also been able to get to the top two with a helper holding this setup going through the shifter hole.
