Yes. I have seen any fair comparison dyno sheets. M50 and m52 manifold rubber length are the same.
@psavel274
@psavel274 3 года назад
Pretty sure there is a thread on bf.c with the dyno plots. What Chris said is on point. You will lose a little torque down low mainly but that's really it.

appreciate the knowledge drop chris. forums are definitely dead these days and you get your head bit off for asking questions instead of digging through 15 year old outdated posts. it's an stuff a lot of these guys could answer in 2 minutes too

Wow that was a lot of information. I spent a long time compiling a lot of that same random knowledge but I’ve never seen so much given in one concise “post”. Good job!

Great video Chris. Throughly enjoyed it. My favorite build I did was probably a NV m50 with an hx35 and MS. NV motors are my favorites for the forged internals and the fact that you can pick up a complete car with a running motor and good trans for less than $1,000 if you look around. ARP's and a Cometic and you can romp them pretty hard and they take it. Wish I still had some of the clips or pictures of that build. I forget how much I did it for budget wise but it was cheap since I bought the DIY MS and wired it myself. That's probably the cheapest way to keep the cost down vs. The PNP MS3 pro if you're okay with wiring your own stuff.

Currently in the process of building an m50b30 supercharged stroker. The info you went over in this vid was helpful to me thankyou. From what i've heard the disadvatage of a longer stroked engine when using forced induction is that you tend to get more problems with vibration at higher rpm and that an aftermarket vibration damper such as the ati superdamper with crank adapter over the stock damper are really helpful in reducing the vibrations.
@DENVERBEERANDOIL
@DENVERBEERANDOIL 3 года назад
Very true on ATI super damper. I have one for the big hp m50 I am building that is utilizing an s52 crank
@psavel274
@psavel274 3 года назад
Yes, the fluidamper is basically a must have mod on almost anything with higher h.p. for reliability sake and good when you need to setup your own trigger setup as well. They're definitely worth the $

Hey guys. Any tips for swapping in an m54 into an e30 any help would be awesome.

Chris hi , I bought the hood for e30 over the weekend, question a budget e30 what engine in i6, would be a nice engine I here n54 or should in do e36 engine ...
@DENVERBEERANDOIL
@DENVERBEERANDOIL 3 года назад
What's up man? E36 engine would be substantially easier and substantially cheaper. N54 would be cool, but much easier to swap an m50 and then turbo it.

Id really like to do something to increase the power on my M50 engined E34 525iA. It is a complete dog around town, and I know the Automatic is partly to blame,but it is getting tired with 260K on it. Im not a fan of forced induction,but I know here in Denver @ altitude it is the way to go.

It has a 4.10 LSD though. I was thinking more like adding a turbo,but just don't like them so maybe supercharger,IDK.

Ive also read that the m52tu has a forged crank same as a m54b30. Can you confirm this? (For boost , 2.8 crank poor mans rotating assembly swap? Better oil rings anyways? ) cant find much info on the componets in the m52tu...
@drewdavis239
@drewdavis239 3 года назад
If the square set up b28 is a better for boost...what crank do i use? My spare m54 , or spare m52tu? Does the b28 have similar harmonic issues?
@gembi92
@gembi92 3 года назад
Is it possible to use m52b28 rotating assembly in m54 block?
@DENVERBEERANDOIL
@DENVERBEERANDOIL 3 года назад
Yup, goes right in, they also have the same sensor ring on the rear of the crank
@drewdavis239
@drewdavis239 3 года назад
If your running boost, wouldnt the m52 manifold give you everything low end,then boost packs it in? Why dont more turbo builds use m52 vs. M50?
@drewdavis239
@drewdavis239 3 года назад
You should do a back to back test on the rollers. Only change the manifold on a boosyed m5x

So, boost is better on a e36 328i over an e46 328i. Fun facts, very nice.
@DENVERBEERANDOIL
@DENVERBEERANDOIL 3 года назад
Hands down the e36 engine is better for boost.
@psavel274
@psavel274 3 года назад
Definitely. I'd stay away from the m54 all together because of the block alone. Aluminum block, and they are known to tear the threads out when run hot and retorquing the head. For this very reason they make a timesert kit specifically for them, which is similar to a helicoil. Iron block m5x is much more stout, and the threads stay put.

Not sure is with the same with the US spec but the Euro m52 had an aluminium block compared to the iron block on the m50
@DENVERBEERANDOIL

Us only got the aluminum block in the z3
@conorfinn2462
@conorfinn2462 3 года назад
Oh I see. Always wondered why so many people boosted m52s over there. Here it’s mainly just the m50 used with the iron block
@sunnnybraaahs
@sunnnybraaahs 3 года назад
All Euro spec S50's had iron blocks not aluminium.
@conorfinn2462
@conorfinn2462 3 года назад
Yeah the s50 was iron block alright like the m50. But m52 and s52 were aluminium
@DENVERBEERANDOIL
@DENVERBEERANDOIL 3 года назад
I'm pretty sure s52 was only a US engine and therefore only iron block
@tiitsaul9036
@tiitsaul9036 3 года назад
Not sure why you obsessed with bore to stroke ratio. It has almost nothing to do with torque production.
@DENVERBEERANDOIL
@DENVERBEERANDOIL 3 года назад
true, it doesn't affect total numbers too much but it can change the power delivery across the rev range
