E6b part 5. TAS and True-Alt corrections on your E6b 

Yep, Yep and Yep. I was in the same situation. CFI wanted me to clear the mountain by 500 feet. I was flying at 4000 feet. I said nope, I am climbing. The CFI told me the altimeter is within 75 feet of accuracy. I told the altimeter could be off way and be like 400 feet. There is no way I could wip out my e6b and fly the plane in that canyon that I was told to go into. I wanted to go around the canyon (which would take more time - 15 minutes longer) . Anyway There was a charlie shelf right above so we had a 900 clearance being 100 feet below the shelf. I climbed to just below the shelf. Anyway the site picture was not pretty. At the debrief I told the CFI I was not comfortable going thru that canyon. He told me it was a good idea that I increased the altitude. I told him from high to low look out below and that temp and pressure altitude effects the reading and that I did not have a recent reading and or corrected for the error. Also said and there could be down drafts. He told me I am to cautious. Note, I am the student pilot. Whew. Changing CFI's. This CFI tried to kill me.

Thank you for all your great videos! However, on the True-Alt correction, I thought you had to line up the 11.000 ft Pressure Altitude to '11' in the inner scale, instead of '10,1'. That would line up to 9600 ft True-Alt. Am I looking at this wrong?

For people that are following this video it would be better if you follow it with an E6B flight computer. It so easy to follow Other wise it take a bit more time to learn and follow.in the Video This great Video to learn how to use the E6B Thank you for this video mate.

I know the E6B isn't that accurate but it's been good to me. Though as I have been flying for years and really got into it. I've learned the actual formulas. Put them in an excel sheet. All I do is put the info into a few cells and all my calculations are done. Even icing levels, cloud base, ISAdev. I can keep going. So my point is by using the first example you provided my calculation came out to TAS=106. Thats a big difference. So should I continue to use the E6B or my formula?
