I have an e92xi manual. I installed my down pipes without lowering the subframe. Just remove the passenger side axle. And you can use the 335i eibach lowering springs, they also fit the xi. I've had mine going on 2 years. It's my first BMW and turbo car and i do everything myself.

Glad to hear you figured out a way to do the DPs without lowering the frame. I can’t say I’m looking forward to attempting on a car that spent its whole life around NE winters but definitely need to do the install at some point

@@lifebycars5849 I did it myself and didnt even take out the axle.. its really not as hard as people make it seem. Just have someone there to help hold it while you struggle to put the v-band clamp back on and youre all good

@@ros102 I also did this on a n54 xdrive without removing the axle.

I disagree with the statement that there isn’t a lot of aftermarket support for the xDrive models. You can buy lots of parts from places like Ecs tuning and bc racing that make parts specifically for the 90 xDrive models

I don't know if they didn't deliver the xdrive-cars with M-suspention in the States, but they definetly do in Europe. I have had both xdrive and rwd, and the body roll is the same, and same ride hardness, etc. BUT the difference when going hard on roads with turns is the understeer of the xdrive. The extra weight in front and other geometrical changes makes it less grippy in the front. It's like driving a good Audi, and a turn that felt ok at 115 mph in the rwd feels a bit scary in 95 mph in the xdrive. Same Michelin Pilot sports, same conditions. One can get rid of this problem with adjusting ride height and fiddle with some angles, but it costs quite some money.

BMW kept a pure hydraulic steering system in these xdrive cars whilst all other LCI moved to electric steering.
@knstormshadow

I thought they also had to use a diffrent pump/rack setup due to the awd system making the steering heavier

H&R lowering springs helped me greatly, but not fully fixed the look. But anyway much much more pleasant look. xHP made app that disconnects front axle, or changes the ratio. It makes it fully RWD, again, it doesn’t fix all the weight and geometry, but just a way get some fun

Thanks. Great video. You helped me make up my mind. It seemed I had 2 options available in my market. (That I was interested in) rwd manual transmission or xdrive automatic. After watching this I definitely want the rwd manual! Just the weight alone. But also the easy of wrenching. Thanks!

Well, that convinced me to not get the xDrive. As a Canadian, this means I'll have to do 10x the amount of research to find the spec I want, if it even exists. Oh well, what we wouldn't do for the perfect car. Btw you covered every single question I wanted to know, I thought I would spend all night on forums to find out the pros and cons, thanks man!

@Burnt PePPeroni I enjoy a challenge when driving it's never a task, I also like the raw aspect of rwd cars. Outside of what I personally enjoy it is indeed not logical, I'm not gonna even attempt to make a point that 😂

That's it. I don't think you buy an Xi/XDrive if you're not planning to rely on the vehicle in snow, and summer driving is cruising or have a different vehicle for sporty driving. Also, seems like ~$1400 for a B8 suspension kit. I think that's fair if you want better stance. Stiffer springs will compensate for less travel.

The xDrive components are pretty solid and don’t usually cause many issues. Probably a good idea to just change the diff / transfer case fluid and make sure non of the CV boots are broken
