For the last 5/6 years of EA on E3 I've just kind of glanced over highlights and said "meh!" I can't recall a time before those years where I was ever genuinely excited watching their conferences. I also feel like EA or something else has put pressure on Bioware and worn away at their quality/originality; because of that very pressure to churn out product for capital. Dragon Age Inquisition was the last Bioware game I cared for, and I've felt nothing will beat KOTOR, IMO. I still have high hopes for Anthem, but I'm not liking the Destiny vibes.
The series died a while back with command and conquer 4. What they did, was they ressurected the game series, took it on the scene, shot it in the leg from the back, and while it crawled in agony for quite a bit, they tapped it in the head. It was torture and an execution.
i still remember that one time i ask for crack game for Red Alert 2 from some random video on youtube and they got mad at me and ask me to buy it but i replied to them that its not worth it buying it if its already more than 15 years now plus even Starcraft2 is for free now and if its new and worth it then i`ll buy like i did to Tiberium War and Kane`s Wrath but i regret so much for buyin Tiberium Twilight
heh... blizzard's diablo immortal also suffers the same fate. better made peace with the c&c series and stick to the classics c&c games. they're timeless.
I despise EA as a whole.... Them and a few other companies (such as Activision) are cancers and a shame to the gaming community... at least in my opinion.
My expectations started on the ground and I'd fallen through into cave by the end. Lonely monster game seems kinda cool but my god, Anthem looks so boring and they're betting the farm on it.
Yes...I really want to go full Medieval on their arses for this. Loved the series so much, and they killed it, and now they are going necro on the corpse. Fuck this idiots.
Sultan I don't get it, wouldn't you think the investors would be in tune with what the consumers want? That's really how they would make most of their money correct?
Alpha-087 All the dumb fanboys who keep buying their generic sports games year after year and the really sad fanboys who will rush to buy any old crap with Star Wars in the title. They keep getting burned every time but they line up to do it again waving their money at EA.
I think people are just waiting for them to change their ways. To be fair they have been making baby steps in the right direction in the last 12 months.
Andrew Erntell No. I'm waiting not because of your assumption. I'm waiting for them to actually be better, cuz they used to create AAA games with AAA quality. Me and EA games go way back and they used to be a trend and now? Piece of garbage company. I still hope for the best
Qori Akromin I respect your optimism sir, but I believe you will be sorely disappointed. EA is a shadow of what it once was many years ago. Today it is ruled by accountants and shareholders whose only concern is maximizing profits. Gone are the days when their purpose for being was to make video games, by video gamers. Now games are a commodity to be pumped out at lowest cost and minimal effort in the name of cost efficiency and higher profits.
Roadstar1602 The “nobody asked for ___” argument is a very retarded argument to make. Nobody asked for Nier Automata, Shadow of Mordor, etc but they are all very good. Nobody asks for most stuff in entertainment industries but a lot of games that weren’t asked for turn out good. No shit nobody asked for this but that doesn’t mean it won’t be fun.
StewThePrestige How do you know it’ll ruin the mode? Have you played the game? Do you have inside knowledge? Battlefield games have always been good, even the worst ones are good games overall.
Audience: Boo!!! Andrew Wilson: Are they booing me? Guy next to him (dont know name): No, they are saying Boo-son, Boo-son. Andrew Wilson: Are you saying boo or Boo-son? Audience: Boo!!! Corporate commander: I was saying Boo-son.
I've never ever heard someone say Tiberium Wars was crap rofl. Top three C&C games are Red Alert 2, Generals and Tiberium Wars. But ok, you must be a minority I didn't know about. Different tastes I guess.
Pay monthly for your morgage/rent Pay monthly for your bills pay monthly for your car pay monthly for your insurance pay monthly for your tv pay monthly for your music pay monthly for the gym pay monthly for your phone And now pay monthly for your games...... Miss a few month's pay and what are you left with? NOTHING! If this isn't modern slavery to a greedy corporate machine then I don't know what is!
During the mobile game segment, no one cared or clapped, the guy I was watching it with paid more attention to his meme chat than the conference, & I went back to playing Fallout 4 waiting for it to finish. Take note EA, never do this shit again.
log out next time The right kind since fortnite is killing pubg atm. Once youre the most popular game in a genre people will most likely compare new entries with your game
Sawyer I don't have hearing loss and I fucking hate EA but all i hear is clapping aswell. Am i confusing the people booing with people cheering or something? Seems weird.
Mobile game isn't a real game (Not all of them) I grew up playing C&C and seeing the legendary game reduced to nothing but cartoon button press, is an absolute insult. You're right It an Investor conference than gamer.
There really good ones Doorkickers for example is an excellent strategy game. It is buy to play and doesn't include Microtransactions like some other buy to play games. The problem is that the companys who develop those games know free to play means more profit. Sadly the costumers proof them that they are right...
Wow, it's almost impressive how C&C: Rivals looks nothing like a regular game in the series. You can imagine the naming process went something like: *Programmer:* Okay sir, it took me all week but I finished that mobile game you asked me to make. *EA Manager:* Good, is the only logical way to progress through microtransactions? And are there popups for those microtransactions on every screen? *Programmer:* **Sigh** As you ordered sir... Are you sure we couldn't add some actual innovative gameplay and strateg- *EA Manager:* Ha, fuck no, that costs money! Also, I'm not too high about the name: *Generic Strategy Game Mega Plus: Rivals,* too new, too much original personality... What rights to good strategy games do we already have? *Programmer:* Uhhmm... I dunno... There's the... *EA Manager:* OH! What about that defunct series we own... Ehhh... Capture and Commander! *Programmer:* The fu-... You mean Command and Conquer? *EA Manager:* Yeah that's what I said. Rename the game Command and Conquer: Rivals! *Programmer:* Wha- I- But this isn't a Command and Conquer game! That series is beloved! *EA Manager:* Exactly! Beloved equals bigger fanbase equals more money! Change some skins in the game and rename it! *Programmer:* But sir-... *EA Manager:* Did I fucking stutter? *Programmer:* ... *EA Manager:* Good. Now excuse me, I need to go and tell the news to the Board. **Walks into elevator and descends into Hell where the Board is located**
Dark Mountain Productions Ik he's was so annoying, I don't think he even know what a game is, I bet he just asks "will this make us money?" They say yes and he's like ok👌
"no loot boxes" ok so they're going to get rid of the traditional box and replace it with a bucket instead because then they can get away with saying no loot boxes but instead implement loot buckets.
How does Angry Joe not understand that: the Enjoyment of A subscription is 'obviously' intended to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different content, duh!
Maybe they could package the subscription into some kind of box that I could loot for a chance of subscription? That would take the sense of accomplishment even further!
GuyN0ir I was thinking the same thing. Buy a subscription loot box for the chance to get anywhere from 1 day to 1 month of play time. Maybe also add game loot boxes where you get a chance to stream the game you want. Then also keep loot boxes in the game.
I was watching this and said to my wife... "wow.. harvesters... and those units... looks like C&C I played as a kid" and then.... the reveal of title. As a person who grew up on C&C/C&C:RA and RA2/C&C:Tiberian Sun I am dusgusted with EA. They took best RTS franchise (before Starcraft anyway), by buying Westwood (company that made C&C) destroyed that company and whole series and now did this... this... abomination on mobile and to sell it they just took C&C logo and slapped it to this subpar mobile BS.... DISGUSTING!!!!
I really don't get the mobile gaming thing. Who are the people buying them? If I'm not in my house I'm usually at work, not playing games, with friends, playing sport or enjoying one of my hobbies. At no time do I want to sit down with my phone and get into a game. If I'm at home I see no reason to play on my phone when I have a perfectly good PC and X-Box, which play better games and are easier to play.
The thing is these are games that seem like they're supposed to be played somewhat seriously, i.e. not something like Angry Birds or Candy Crush. A lunch break, when I'm also trying to eat my lunch, isn't really the best time to play something like C&C, which should require a fair amount of strategy and thought. Lunch at my office or sat in the park or the train and I'm going to be distracted by any number of things.
dont underestimate the general population. When pokemon go came out hundreds of people were sitting outside the bus stops at my local beach chasing virtual animals instead of... ya know... enjoying the beach. They couldn't even see the water from the location tagged for pokemon. There is also the "parents giving their smart phone to their kids in the car or at the dinner table to shut them up" market - its fucking huge.
It's little kids. Their parents buy them mobile games to shut them up so they don't have to pay attention to them. When I worked at game store, this "business guy" in his late 40s came asking us how he can buy more tracks for some "racing game" on his iPad, that his kid plays with. The "game" was not only a terrible game, but it was this kind of "free to install, EVERYTHING costs money to do". They was casually like "I've spent like 300 euros on this, could I've hit some spending limit?" THIS is the target audience, make no mistake, clueless stressed out parents with no time for their kids.
I have the feeling EA came into the office and said it needed to be added. Seems like Grand Operations' final day was their take on Battle Royale already.
People have Fortnite, which is free, and you can generally see what you're shooting at... unlike with the frostbite engine. Why spend $60 on a battle royale when you can play it for free? (Unless you have a fear of your own money)
Rtdslayer i remember playing command and conquer on 64, the music was so bad ass, even the GDI commando mission. When he blows something up and says ‘I’ve got a present for ya. *BOOM* That was left handed’ lmao
Loved every game in series and now got this. Same sh*t with Warhammer DoW - they just decide to sh*t on fans and present trash for the "new generation"
Angry Joe, don't fall for the hype. Game streaming isn't "for the players"... It's for the publishers. Once the technology is there, this will be forced on us. This is their next evolution of DRM. Imagine in the future where you can't even install a game. Instead you have to pay a subscription fee each month and if you stop paying you lose access to your game library. And that argument you make about it being affordable for people that can't afford a gaming PC or a console is the exact lie they will tell you to make you swallow that pill.
It's up to us to not give in, there is more then enough of a backlog of games you didn't play yet - no matter who you are. Players should just boycott and shame shitty devs.
Honestly, i never thought EA would be able to truly disappoint me again because i had no expectations or hopes for anything they would reveal. Then they showed C&C Rivals
That's a case of sick psychology: Step 1: Spend near half an hour showing of some generic, one trick pony, mobile game till you feel sick. Step 2: slap the title of a series that's respected or has a respected fan base. Step 3: Hide from the angry mob that has come to kick your ass.
What EA has done with C&C should be considered a criminal offense. The last truly great game in the series was Kane's Wrath. They killed Tiberium even though it was finished and seemed to be a fairly decent game. The last Red Alert was mediocre, and they made a shit finale and chose to make a shit mobile game.
Lol the funny thing is they set the bar so low for everyone else that even if they suck they'll look awesome compared to EA. You can't be a waste of space without EA
The benefits and joys of doing away with EA and turning elsewhere. There's only one revealed game so far I'm legitimately excited for and that's Metroid Prime 4.
4 sounds good. Live is getting the love it deserves, battlefield still looked good aside from the royale bs, Madden I believe is being saved for Sony conference, and the streaming service could be cool. 2/10 for me means I only liked about 1 or 2 things in the conference.
3/10, 4/10 is just slightly below average and this was nowhere near the average however, I do trust EA a bit more, hopefully I won't regret it. No battle packs in battlefield with all maps free seems wonderful and sadly a bold move nowadays and this is what got me.
@@joelrichardson5139 Highly unlikely, but even if they do, it will be much better to rename the entire company. Their reputation is already tarnished beyond repair.
Agreed, this was definitely talking to investors and not gamers. Investors have been pretty jittery since the pulling of lootboxes, EA first tried to reassure them that lootboxes were still legal and viable (despite 2 countries already restricting them) and has now apparently ditched them entirely, so this conference was all saying "don't worry, we're still making money!"
True. If they were _actually_ talking to the gamers they wouldn't bother showing off FIFA, Madden or NBA at an E3 conference every damned year, to an audience eagerly anticipating something *new.* It is a complete waste of time: the people who buy those games buy them every single year without fail, and you aren't going to convert anyone who isn't already a fan. But from an investers standpoint, they expect those games to be shown off because they make mega bucks for them.
I feel bad for Vince Zampella (from Respawn Entertainment). Respawn makes an award winning game (Titanfall 2), and EA just blindsided him to make a presentation on the spot of a work in progress. Can't spell "desperate" without EA.
thevine2010 The funny thing is if they'd just done a behind the scenes video at Respawn Entertainment saying "Hey we're working on a new Star Wars game exploring the aftermath of Order 66 from the POV of a Jedi apprentice, it's still early days for us but we're very excited to have this honour to contribute our own story to one of most influential franchises out there, we're aiming for a holiday 2019 release date and we can't wait to show you what we've been working on nearer release." Followed by maybe a brief snippet of a CG Jedi igniting their lightsaber before cutting to a logo, then people probably would have been excited. As it stands it just seems like EA had nothing to announce so they phoned Respawn up and asked them to unveil the game with no fanfare.
It was indeed awkward as in how they interviewed him but the supposed "Respawn's new Star Wars game" was being worked on for 2 years now without any progress update or any pre-alpha/alpha footage anywhere. They should have had something, even a 20 second teaser or a logo or something. All we got was a cringy interview and a title. Feels like it might get canceled 😟
They don't show games anymore. They are looking for investers for proyects, 'cause they don't have any trust on their company, so they can't go by themselves on the industry. People hates them, and now days, they are even more heated.
It's the irony of the WHOLE problem they have no confidence in the market. The come up with bullshit that ends up failing instead of working on something that might work yet it might not sell as much as they think. A good game selling something is better than a bad game not selling at all. EA needs to wake up and realize these investors are toxic for their longevity.
Also the big problems with hacks nowadays is caused by these companies when they user wealth goes down they get into the black market of hacking, LoL does this and its part of the main reason they let tencent take over the controlling shares, tencent can't be sued in this situation because china will protect their second largest billionaire to the death.
Also this shit for brains moron doesn't tell you about the meta data they sell, I wonder what kind of military data they can get from selling the meta data to countries like China.
About Battle Royale mode in CoD and why they cut off singleplayer - i think the reason is that unlike Frostbite, which is already is capable of supporting a lot of players on a huge maps, CoD engine is not ready for this at all. So they had to get a lot of their stuff in order to make it work. And since Sp is the only node that you can't insert microtransactions into, they got rid of it without much hesitation.
N7 ODST well I don't give a shit, as long as they only add onto the game and not take from it. I'll obviously try it cause I'm not pessimistic, but even if I don't like it it's there for the people who do.
It doesn't matter what EA come out with. I personally will not be buying any of their games for a long time. I will be looking upon their EVERY move with caution and watching closely at any shady or underhanded practises they attempt. You're on thin ice EA.
Ghost of Nicholas Clark Titanfall 2, Battlefield 4, battlefront 2 ( after Dice added the progression system. Just because you don't like EA doesn't mean the games they publish are shit.
Ye i know, thats the problem with fifa, our expectations are so low, fifa fans will take anything they can get. This is because there is not enough competition for fifa and EA.
"C&C for a new generation" a brilliant move, attracting consumers who know nothing about them are why IPs are so valuable after all, definitely worth alienating the existing customer base
It was already dead so I couldn't really get more mad. It's just... come on. Why did they think this was going to get praise? And I kinda wanna ask the guys playing it what they actually thought of it. They were doing a job, I'm sure they're good people, I just wanna know their honest opinions without EA looming over them.
I pretty much could only get into Red Alert, Red Alert 2, Red Alert 3 Yuri's Revenge, and Command & Conquer Generals 1 & 2. Every other C & C after that was just "eh" to me.
ikr?they are sitting on star wars like its second fiddle to there sports games but they dont know that they could make billons i bet if they produce good single player star wars games oh wait thatll actually take effort and money nvm
I saw the division comming a mile away, when people were calling it the "destiny killer" I knew it was either going to be slightly worse or dogshit bad
I’m pretty certain that EA pays people or has employees in the crowd to applaud and cheer every time they announce something. The realistic reaction to the BR announcement would be BOOOOO!!!
Thank god there is a genuine fella commenting on the gaming industry in 2018 with some genuine sway. I miss the good old glory days of ea with 1942 and BC2. Kudos to you buddy and keep it up.
I was disappointed about one of my favourite games being ruined, they could of knocked it out of the park with a great Command & Conquer game, but we have this Rivals, why are we here just to suffer?
Nooo last years EA E3 was way more cringy remember SW Battlefront and they had the stormtroopers and that cringy SJW women came out with that terrible performance as the main lead ok the game
baashdi hobstocking you know what's funny? They're still one of the most profitable game publishers in the world and the most hated at the same time. That's why investors are attracted to them. Sure they fail but they still can convince people to spend money on them. As a gaming company, they are shit, but as a business, they are successful.
I love how you can even hjear it in the reaction of the Audience. 10% Applauded -> People who never knew about C&C 90% where in Shock -> People who knew about C&C
i'm glad i missed that conference and saw this instead, can you do this with all the conferences i'd rather watch you than a bunch of bots selling to investors
I haven't watched a single E3 ever, it's just a bunch of BS hype that inevitably won't be lived up to any of it. I too would watch/listen to Angry Joe talk about this stuff then waste my time watching this shit. Hell I mostly just play niche games now anyway, but still I should be informed somewhat I guess about games I don't care about it lol
Well, I hate to say it since EA is all about business and investors but if they look at it from a business standpoint, they're gonna have to change to actually make a profit from their games, one example is the new Battlefront game, I'm fairly certain they didn't make any profit at all on that shithole of a game.
i liked red alert commanders challenge better than red alert 3 not that i didnt enjoy red alert 3 just commanders challenge was more exciting challenging and rewarding to me
C&C Rivals after what I heard from it. I was turn off. Instead of doing port of C&C Red Alert series or C&C Generals, what we got is some kind of Fast Pace strategy Game with P2W. Its not about fun anymore. If you want fun, you ll need money.
Neutronian - Russian-Israel Mapping Or they could write off C&C 4 and pretend it never happened, and give us the real story at happened after Kane's Wrath, with Legion leading the Cyborg army and the Scrin invasion beginning
Its a shame really BF1 had some of the best marketing and trailers I have seen in a long time. Its like they threw everything good about the BF1 hype out of the window when they made BF5.
Christopher Simon they probably realise tons of people hate them but are probably just thinking. "We're still getting a crap ton of money from all the blind fans who are willing to buy the same product every year. So screw all of you". That's pretty much what I see their thought process being like
Yeah it was so fucking boring the only game I was hyped for was the Sea Of Solitude it looks like it could be something special (I thought unravel 2 looked good 2 but I never played the first one)Also I couldn’t believe they spent that much time on a mobile game 🤬😡
My childhood was born with C&C Generals... I've lost any drop of faith I thought I ever had left in EA, and I didn't think I had any left after Battlefront two. My childhood is dead. I miss it. Can I go back God? Edit: Oh yea, The C&C Generals 2 is what killed my child form in the first place.
WAit what? 2/10 are you fucking kidding me? You guys are being way too nice. I would give it a 0/10, but logic dictates you can't rate it a 0, so 1/10 should do, and the 1/10 is only because the had those EA Originals, the other stuff was 100% BS.
Isaac La Vina Just what a non-existent fan base wanted. Even though the last game from EA in the franchise completely ruined the future for the fans and the franchise. What a disappointment.
Of course though... Will this be one of these games where to speed up the build process you can spend gems... which you buy with gold... which you buy with real money?
You know those old days where there would be so many games being released that were enjoyable to play and it made you feel excited to return home just so you could throw countless hours into it, like really craving to play a game. Can’t say I have felt that feeling in a while and fuck it’s sad what games are like now.
y e s I share your feelings. And specifically about EA, I remember being able to sit down and play Need4Speed and customize my cars without having microtransactions shoved down my throat. I often go back and play those games like Underground, the Burnout series, and stuff like that and they feel like an entire different experience to what EA puts out today. Companies like them have just gone from focusing on the gamers and consumers to just pure corporate and it is extremely disheartening. I do love seeing people like the people who came out about Unravel 2 and Sea of Solitude. Indie developers like that who are passionate about what they are doing still give me hope in the industry. Those are the kind of people who need the attention rather than the mega AAA corporations.
+ PrototypeKnuckles No, I still play a bunch of games, just not the ones that have all the micro transaction shit or "always online even for SP" bullshit. Its that the market is getting worse every year (especially in the RTS realm)
When there were so many games that you actually had to choose which one to get and you'd end up feeling both joy and sadness. Happy because you got a new game to sink hours in and sad because you didn't get those other amazing games...then your friends got them and lent them to you!Good times :)
