Dude, I started this Hobby seriously just 5 months ago. Now someone asking me what to get to Start I say exactly the eachine novice 4 combo with the moblite6 to use first. Guess just like you say in your first minute. It is the best value combo, but not the best Equipment. I would prefer the tx16s and better goggles though. But just getting started you dont intend to spend much. I got the dji fpv combo first and went down to babyhawk 2 hd and now down to crux3 ans moblite7. At least my dji goggles lasted all the way with analog module

Nick youre a life saver. no matter what i did the beeper was sounding off repeatedly with no visible power source connected till i watched this vid and you showed me there is that tiny button on the beeper and that i had to long press it. LIFE SAVER!! otherwise the drone was ready to take a flight into a hammer.

I agree with you, a metal loop on a battery strap is eccencial. Also... that open park you fly in is fantastic. Thank you for your "no frills" approach on this kit. You made many valid points here, a whoop is a much better first quad.

Ive been flying freestyle on these long range frames since they came up. The dead cat style is definately going to brake at the front arms. Its just the geometry of it.

It is a 4th novice series. Start off with the 1st-3rd first. The fifth would surely be a 5 inch. Or just start with a 5 inch ive been told a.k.a. full size micro.

I saw your video too late lol it indeed was my first drone and as noob i crashed and broke an arm but thankfully knowing my self i got 4 spare arms and was able to fix it 😁. after that i went for protek 35 and still learning but its more durable so im also using its batteries on that drone since they dont have much power output. Thanks for the video!

Totally agree with you that this shouldn't be anyone's first drone. I'd go a bit further even and say just don't fly anything with unprotected props until you've become a fairly confident flyer. Not just for the sake of not breaking props, but also for the sake of not endangering yourself and the people around you.

Great review and flight footage. It looks like a good kit. I have seen this in other reviews, but I don't think anyone else suggested a whoop for beginners in their review. If I had got this kit instead of a whoop as a beginner the quad would have been destroyed in no time.. 👍

Hi Nick Great video and review of the Eachine Novice 4. I really like this one. I like the Radiomaster, The Eachine EV-800DM and the 4in quad. I just can't see how they came up with the price. The radio is $90,googles are $80 so it's $270 for the quad and two cheap batteries and a charger ? I would rather they drop the price or a better quad. Thanks again for the video and information. I have the Eachine EV800D and I can't see through them either. Blurry. If I hold them back from my face like 3 inches it is clear. Bottom line, can't use them. Having that slide/focus feature would be nice!

I I'm getting basically the same kit but with the tx16s for the radio and maybe a modula 7 or 6 I cant decide they all look sweet. Velcro will hold the battery down perfectly along with the strap of course but cut a square piece of Velcro and stick the other piece on the battery

Okay I have had this for 2 months .If it is your first quad you need to start in angle mode ,and before that please practice on the simulator with the tx12 (velocidrone is the most realistic I have found). Then tie down the GPS on the quad ,and maybe look at another way to tie down the battery . Lucky I have the walkera f210, because if this was my first it would have been a nightmare.

Nick let me just say not only is this the best review it is the most detailed I am new to fpv but not drones or flying and your right this shouldn't be your first quad I purchased this a few weeks ago and because it's new there weren't many reviews other than andyrc's reviews I love this quad I really just purchased it because it is the best bundle out because of the radio and gogs are great starters however though the charger works I would use a hobby grade one using the one that comes with it I noticed my cells were all over the place lol also I lost signal around 240 250ish meters I was only at 200mw though but still felt it shouldn't have happened though since there weren't any obstacles around so maybe upgrading the antennas might help but great vid and review man👍✌ and could you tell me what that antenna caps purpose is for🤔 lol thanks

Thank you. Antenna can make a difference especially a directional or patch antenna in the direction we will be flying the furthest. The antenna caps? Do you mean the plastic that covers the end of the antenna on our goggles? The flat one is a patch/directional antenna, we want the part with eachine printed on it to point in the furthest direction of flight. It is a concentrated antenna, think of it like a cone, with the narrow part starting at the antenna, then it slowly widens out. We get the best video range with that antenna pointed in the direction we will be flying. The round one is a circular polarized antenna, or cp antenna. That has a reception pattern like a doughnut. With poor reception where the "holes" are, directly above us and below us. CP antenna improve multi pathing which is where the signal is bouncing around, typically we see that when we are around metal.

I was looking at foxeer but 🤔 and what do you think about the diatone hey tina whoop? Excellent Nick. I ordered mine back in the beginning of May from dg but it got returned from customs, they said they would send it straight out again via airmail. I’m still waiting for it to arrive. Apparently stocks are very short. I’m told now it should arrive in the next 3 weeks..

About that tape, I have been using hockey stick tape, seems the same to me. Ever compare? That's a lot better than the new wizard. It looks like a decent bundle. Interesting color choice. That's a big buzzer and an odd location for it! Wonder why they didn't move up the GPS and fit a smaller buzzer under it. It's a novice, they need to add in all the cautionary things you mentioned! And I agree those are thin arms for a novice. Yeah metal buckle, especially if foam pad! Gel pad, plastic buckle is passable, but not something I would use.

My understanding of hockey tape (never played) is its less smooth and can be fuzzy. I suspect the buzzer/alarm was fairly inexpensive and that is why they used it :) I do think the buzzer could have been mounted elsewhere but the mandatory button press could be an issue if mounted within the frame.

I have not determined the max distance I could fly it in that space. Keep in mind our video and control link isn't the same in all environments. Also the gps doesn't operate like a mavix gps does. The firmware (betaflight), is much different than that on a mavic or similar. The gps rescue is just that a rescue mode, which doesn't often bring the quad back to the exact take off spot.

So I have a simple question. I think. How do I use the DVR on the goggles. Do I have to have a micro SD IN THE GOGGLES. Because I have tried recording with and without the SD and nothing happens.

We definitely need the sd card in the goggles, and a signal to the goggles (generally). I believe a long press records video and short takes a picture. I suggest formatting the card before trying to record.

I believe the novice v is on the channel. Its a decent kit, but not for those that want to fly aggressively or plan to fly it first, as in the video I suggest another quad to start flying with the goggle and radio.

Thanks for the review. I have a DJI drone but keen to try an FPV drone so was looking at this package. As a novice flyer I like your reccomendation on getting a whoop to go with it. However can you use the FPV gogles and transmitter from this package with the whoop?

Yes, we can use the goggles and radio with another quad, we only need to ensure the other quad we get has the same protcol of receiver.

I’ve been looking for a starter kit myself and had the same issue you talked about! I want a transmitter and goggles that I can use for other stuff in the future. A lot of the beginner kits don’t have much going for the transmitter and goggles so I’m tempted to buy a tx12 and a set of goggles then get a robust micro drone to try it out. I’ve looked at the models you mentioned...when shopping what am I looking for to know it would be compatible? Or would you recommend a different route/set of goggles and transmitter?

What is most common in micros is the receiver protocol, which is frsky d8 or d16. The tx12 will bind to either. The receiver protocol is our only issue of compatibility.

If the receivers are the same or run the same protocol we can use the same model file. On my radios, I make a d8, d16, and ELRS model file and bind the quads to the appropriate model file per the receiver protocol.

@@NickBurnsFPV I did notice that too. I think a crux3 with maybe a tx12 and blahblah goggles would be an awesome starter set, hell throw in a xt30 to jst(x2) adapter so you'd fly 1s, then throw in 2 1s batteries and 1 2s, a simple charger and send it out for $250

I’m loving my eachine novice 4. But I can’t figure out how to get the vtx to 400mw. Betaflight only shows me up to 200mw. Could you help me out?

Yes, betaflight has angle mode and horizon mode, which is stabilized assisted. I am not sure if this is exactly like dji flying modes.

Yea, I still would look at a whoop. I worry that even with 100hrs of sim time, the real flight is different and there is that "real" aspect that we can't simulate.

Nick, so if you had a budget of around $500 and you are trying to get into the sport what would you get. I do want something I can grow with but not kill the budget. For the drone I would like something that you could fly through the trees but also with speed and do the flips and rolls. For work I fly a DJI mavic 2 with the smart controller, I fly pinch style. Any help would be good. Before watching your video on the Novice IV this was the one I was thinking about.

John, Where do you plan to fly? Do you plan to find a large open space, a park nearby or around the house? Do you want something that comes in a package or buying the individual pieces (Googles, controller, batteries, charger...), then learning and doing the activities we need to do to make them all work together?

I plan mostly out side in the yard around the neighborhood and some more open spaces fields but not huge fields like farm fields. If I get a pack the novice IV looks the best for long term that I can grow with. I was also looking at the jumper t light. I am not to Sure about goggles yet I do wear reading glasses getting old going to be 50 this month. For the drone I was thinking more like a cinewoop something I could fly up into big oak trees and have fun with something that can go fast and learn to do the tricks, I have a mavic pro so I don’t need something like that. And to add to the list something to get my son into also to get him off the video games, and thanks for all the help. Don’t want to build one from the ground up yet but that is in the plans in the near future.

@@johnwright7108 Unfortunately, learning the fly fpv means many crashes, even if we go very slow and are cautious we will make a mistake or get over confident and crash. I don't suggest the novice IV. As its likely going to break an arm before we get much flight experience with it. Maybe get something like the eachine cinefun with the novice IV? In FPV we use the osd or on screen display. In my videos the lower left of the screen has the battery voltage. Betaflight by default will have an on screen "low battery" alert when the battery hits 3.5v per cell, which is the top number in the lower left in my videos.

So is the novice III a better deal if I'd rather have full resolution DVR on the drone itself rather than lossy from the goggles? The Novice III has an SD card slot in the FC.

The onboard dvr will have a clearer picture, but it won't be true hd as the camera isn't capable or designed for high resolution.

@@NickBurnsFPV That makes sense. So many options, and not enough money to try them all. I thought about just starting on a few smaller whoops while i'm learning. Maybe Mobula 6 HD (analog vtx with onboard 1080P DVR), and an Alpha C85 Cinewhoop. In a week, I've gone from the Eachine Novice's, to a Nazgul 5 v2, to the smaller whoops. I should just make up my mind :)

Don't we get the defaults if we flash betaflight? Or are you looking for a cli dump for a specific quad with the gokuf411?

you can change the timer in the osd menu on betaflight. I use emuflight and have gps rescue, it took a lot of tweaking to get it to function ok with a 70% chance of rth working right. I really like this one kit, but like you say not for beginners. if I got this i'd give the goggles/controller,and the hx100 se to one of my grandkids. That lost beeper is unique I like that feature to keep it off while setting it up.where it's at tho, might get rubbed off sliding on the the "ass fault" . might be good to put a second bat strap on it.I bought 3 rolls of that cloth tape last yr wen you first mentioned it, eachine has discontinued it.

Does it have a stability or angle mode...?

Yes, all quads with betaflight do have angle mode which is a stabilized mode, but not like a dji phantom or mavic

too expensive and too fragile. A better solution would be a diatone Taycan INAV like I made my wife or a whoop..anything sub 250 as the people that ask about our hobby always brings up having to register with the government as a negative getting into our hobby.

No, not at this point. My first two years or so I did buy everything. Now days about 70% of the products are sent to me for free.

so which receiver do i select? the flysky, or frysky, to be compatible with the eachine novus 4 goggles and transmitter? also, which batteries for the whoop? thanks Nick!

I would select frsky but the controller can do both and either way it should come bound and ready to use. With whoops I tend to use GNB 350mah batteries.

I got the mobilite 7 and I was able to bind it to the transmitter and I can also see the picture in the goggles from the camera. But I can’t get the drone to do anything or arm it. Suggestions?

@@kevinc6383 On the receiver page of the betaflight app, move the switches on the radio and note the aux number. Then in the modes page, set the switch you want to "arm" the quad on the modes page set this switch/aux to the arm mode. The sliders can be moved to fit. Remember we want to start and end the flight with the switch outside the arm range. Arm is also disarm when not in the orange range.

@@kevinc6383 There is a knowledge mountain to climb. One step at a time we are able to climb that hill. Patience and determination...will get us there. Thankfully there are many tutorials on youtube and other online resources. Some are old and not all that relevant today.

Great job, buddy. I mean, I’m taking all of this under advisement…… But, if I’m still very, very, very, very new to FPV; I’m talking so new, that my one and only FPV quad is my Emacs tinyhawk 2 RTF combo. So, if it were between this, and DJI FPV, (really really not trying to drop 1500 when I’m still so new not to mention the cost of crashes and replacements etc….) That being said, if I am completely in love with my tiny hawk, but still don’t know crap about FPV drones and the 12 year degree that goes along with it…… what would you recommend…?
