I am so glad I found this Doctor, four years ago my left ear went off with a ringing so loud I couldn't hear at all and could hardly walk from disbalance from it, ear Dr used a steroid by a needle through my ear drum (yes, it is as unpleasant as it sounds) which helped maybe 20%, found this video and it has changed my life, it comes back in the mid-summer, I do the excercises and it's fixed...thank you!!!

Here in Ontario, Canada, it's impossible to get help with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. All we have is ENT specialists, who have no idea what causes ETD. In fact, they don't even seem to believe it exists! I have had the problem for at least five years. Been to two ENT specialists. The first examined my outer ear, then put a fibre optic tube into my nose. He found nothing wrong and then said, "Of course, I can't see inside the eustachian tube!" When I pointed out that the problem clearly was IN the eustachian tube, and asked why he wasted my time, he became cross and patronising and told me to try an antihistamine. That was the end of his responsibility. I went to another ENT specialist who measured the air pressure on the outside of my eardrum and said it was normal, so what I was suffering from was "intermittent eustachian tube dysfunction". I asked him why, if it was intermittent, I had the problem ALL THE TIME! He had no answer, just spoke to me patronisingly and made it clear that our consultation was over. I got a very clear impression from both of these so-called "specialists" that they had NO IDEA what it was like to suffer from this condition. The accepted explanation here seems to be that it is caused by frequent ear infections that happened when the patient was a child! This is what they were taught at medical school and they have not looked at any research literature since then. I have gathered from researching the Internet that there can be a connection with misalignment of the cervical vertebrae, and have myself achieved short-term, marginal relief by trying to improve my posture, which seems to confirm this theory, but I have yet to find a specialist who can help me and give me the sort of treatment that is featured in this video. I am so sick of being ignored by the medical profession!

Sorry to hear what you have gone through. Please find a McKenzie therapist in your area. Go to Mckenzie Institute Canada website and you should be able to find one.

@@vikasagar9 Thank you for this advice. I am familiar with McKenzie's work, having obtained a copy of "Treat Your Own Back" years ago, and as a life-long lower back pain sufferer, I have benefitted greatly from his self-help techniques. I was however unaware of the McKenzie Institute, and have now checeked out this possibility. I wasn't surprised to find that the registered practitioners are almost all in Toronto (that is a recurring problem here in Ontario: if you don't live close to Toronto, you won't find medical specialists of any type in your local area). However, I notice that there is one possibility in Bowmanville, which is only an hour's drive away, which I guess is acceptable, even for somebody like me, a Brit who hates driving on Canadian highways!

@@catieevelen2563 I may be cynical, but I suspect it's more a matter of not looking outside the box because they may have to admit thay have been wrong all along. Besides, there's no money in actually helping patients deal with the cause of their conditions: then they would lose the steady income they get from treating the symptoms.

@@geoffreybarrow8935 I have discovered the same thing here in Brockville Ontario. I am a blind multi instrumentalist that has developed tinnitus and popping in my ears for about seven months now. I went to a couple of supposed specialists, and try to explain to them that it wasn’t just tinnitus but also the popping as well, and they did exams on me and told me that there was nothing, and that one of them had it since he was 32 years old and just learn to live with it. I get that it’s not a Curable condition in all cases but it definitely can be reduced in someway seeing as other people have done it, and yet these people know nothing and seem to be dismissive of the fact that not only am I blind, but music is one of the hardest things to do, when some thing like this is interfering. I am secretly getting a little angry as I’m dictating this text to this RU-vid comment, it has been a struggle, I’ve tried to stay positive though but it sure is hard I just sent an email on the McKenzie website to the international persons and I hope that they will email me back and help me find someone here in Canada even if I have to travel, if they think they can do something, I definitely feel like it’s worth it in the end.

I am curious- might retraction be helped by laying flat on the back on the bed; and then pressing the back of the head into the the flat mattress? That nay help a patient to focus on the correct feeling of the “retraction” movement while also eliminating the urge to do a head extension movement? Your feedback is much appreciated!

Trying these exercises myself as I've had similar problems for 1.5 years and no doctor has been able to help yet. I definitely get tightness in my neck and jaw and opening my mouth wide can send sharp pains into my clogged ear. I also present with hyperacusis in my clogged ear. Medications have not shown much help and I've tried steroid sprays, Sudafed, Benadryl, and lorazepam (this may have helped the most to relax tensed up muscles). Anyway like I said I'll try this and see if I get any relief. Thanks.

yes, that is not uncommon. The dizziness also could be from the same mechanical issue in the neck. However, if persist, needs evaluation from a MD to rule out other causes.

I have been diagnosed with Eustachian tube dysfunction and have had it for about 7 months. For the first 4 months, I had tinnitus in both ears as well as a dry cough. Then it progressed to sinus headaches, then unsteadiness/off-balance and nausea. . Prior to the ETD diagnosis I had neck pain when I woke up every morning, also cervical 5&6 pinched nerve. I have been doing vertigo PT exercises but wondered if I should try the Mackenzie method? Also, do you suggest a certain pillow? I have tried many cervical pillows.

Can Eustachian tube dysfunction ever cause vertigo?
@vikasagar9
@vikasagar9 3 года назад
ETD (a middle ear problem) can result in fluid and pressure in the middle ear which can cause some unsteadiness or off balance feeling due to pressure in the ear. Vertigo, which is technically a spinning sensation, is from inner ear issues (peripheral vertigo) or further up in the brain (central vertigo)
