I wasn't a oiler fan. I'm a Raider fan and I just loved to watch Earl Cambell run with a football. You knew there was going to be a bone crushing hit and Earl was going to deliver it. I hated when the Raiders traded Stabler, but when I heard it was to the Oilers, and Snake was going to play with Cambell it eased the pain a little. I even found myself pulling for the Oilers except in the 1980 playoffs when they played the Raiders
He was the only athlete I've ever seen in a football game that simply took my breath away as he absolutely ran roughshod over the Dallas Cowboys. You couldn't take your eyes off him as he was pounding the defensive players on his way to the end zone at will. The only football player I've ever seen who was absolutely and totally Unstoppable
My Mom was a football fan and took us as kids to the astrodome to watch the Oilers play. Watching Earl play was something to behold. A human steam roller of a player.
The greatest pure running back of the NFL, College, and High School player of all time. I’m simply amazed on what he had accomplished for his family and God. Thank you Mr. Earl Campbell.
I think the one run that exemplified who Earl really was was when he took a handoff and lowered his helmet right into Isaiah Robertsons sternum, then was chased by 2 more Ram defenders, ripping half his jersey off. The most intense play I have ever seen.
I have a autographed football I won in a cub scout raffle at one of our yearly banquets in 1980. I still have that football. It is one of my favorite possessions.
My boys and I had the pleasure to meet Me Campbell during a card signing. He was exceptionally generous with my kids who were able to get a pic with him. Thank you for the great memory. It’s greatly appreciated.
I went to Austin Reagan and had our middle linebacker in a class. I asked him "what happen?" He said "Earl Campell" He said he never ever had a running back that came directly at him (our lb was huge) and hit HIM! He played the same way in college and the pros, so naturally he had short pro career. I am proud to have seen and I admired this man's journey in life . It was never easy, but he conducted himself with class at nearly every step of the way, few can do that.
I was a Browns fan then and Cleveland played the Oilers twice a year. Earl was just a shear bruising running back that was just hard to stop. He was a great football player and a great gentleman.
Earl was my all time favorite player and of course favorite running back. No one ever ran like Earl with so much power, speed, heart and humility. Play after play, week after week Earl was a one man demolition crew running over defenders and breaking tackles. Such a class act of a guy off the field.
I just turned 59 and growing up loving the game I had many heroes. Walter Payton and Earl Campbell were my running back heroes. The memories this man gave to millions of fans are so special.
There was no one in the league that could tackle him one on one, one of the great running backs and he played offense like a linebacker. GOD BLESS you and yours ✝️. 🖤👽
Thank You Earl, a true warrior that gave everything every game to entertain the fans and win games as an Oiler. May you be able to find some peaceful days without pain.
Always loved watching Earl Campbell play. You could almost see the defensive players not wanting to tackle him by the end of games. He was a bruising back that just kept coming at the other team, it looked like he had oak trees for thighs. Class act and very open and honest. He paid a severe price for his playing style, he had some health issues after his football days.
What does being a Cowboy fan have to do with making this comment? It's ok to compliment other athletes if their good regardless of what fan you are of a team.
You were and are still my hero above all others, thank you for taking your time to talk with me, take a pic with me and bless me with your presents and autograph.
Raising 10 kids alone including Earl - and keeping them in line - they should put Earl's Mom in the "Football Parents Hall of Fame". Black women raised prior to civil rights and worked hard without any government or program help were a breed apart - tough as nails and sweet as sugar - and aren't celebrated enough.
Earl gave the sport and fans something special. I ve watched several videos on and by Kenny " Snake " Stabler. He talked so highly and with appreciation and respect for Earl. I laughed at the story of them playing the Steelers at Three Rivers and in the 4th with a few mins left. Snake said the best way to run off time on clock when ahead is give the ball to Earl and let him pick someone to run over and get a few yards to get first downs and slowly drain clock. Kenny gave Earl the ball 9 times and each time he was getting the worst of each carry and came back looking out ear hole , trickle of blood draining from one nose hole that ninth carry. He stumbled back bumping in to Kenny and said, " Hey , Snake how about throwing one."
I bought stock in the EARL CAMPBELL 🏈Hot Links & Sausage Company.. All I'm gonna say is that along with my retirement pay & Earl Campbell stocks 🤑 I'll be very good for the rest of my life $$$👍
Earl, I know I will never get to meet you. As you came up I really looked forward to seeing you play. My son called you Earm I have always thought you would have been the best running back ever, if Bum had not run you every play. God will be with you for ever,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I played against Earl in Conroe Texas 1973, I was outside linebacker 155 lbs., had my work cut out for me that night, Tyler beat us that night 10-7 one of my most amazing nights, in 2007 Earl called me when I was living in Illinois, his first words was Snuffy we can still be you guys, I stated Earl I think I could take you now, he was always a prince of a man. Deuteronomy 33: 25-27 God Bless my dear friend Earl
Nice story. Playing against him must have been really something. Growing up in Nova Scotia, Canada, he was always my favourite player to watch. Used to think, wow if Earl could skate imagine him as a hockey player! All of the growing up stories of these football players were so interesting. Although you must have taken some hard shots, you are lucky to have these memories. ( and Earl calling you!). Nice biblical reference sir, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
If earl played today......................................he would still be running. They cant hit today like they hit back then. Long Live The Tyler Rose !
How about Jim Brown, Larry Czonka , and John Riggins, thy weren't "punishers" ? Bo Jackson wasn't exactly a shrinking violet either, but had so much raw speed he could run BY defenders too.
The fact that he was one of the greatest running backs was cool but if you ever had some of those “Earl Campbell Smoke Sausages”. You’d forget he ever played football! Brilliant! Cheers mates!!
I called them “THE HOUSTON EARLERS” I went to Nacadoches TeXaS!! He WUZ at Tyler !! W O W !!! To see him run up n down the field !! I WUZ 2 years behind !! ❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🎼🎸🇨🇱🇨🇱🖖🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼
Nobody, but nobody was better than Earl Campbell as a running back. Barry Sanders could juke, Eric Dickerson was fast, Jim Brown was powerfull, but Earl had all of that and more. Earl Campbell would be my # 1 pIck at running back as the best of all time over anybody and everybody. Just watch the video, it can tell you that.
I do not see how a person can get all that talent, class and in one human body. i was at UT when he was playing there. One day I was eating lunch and saw the Rice university come in for a lunch a day before the game. My only thought I sure was glad I am not part of that team. Hook em horns and go Earl. earl is one of a kind.
