@@MyVisualRomance Seriously? Why? Are you implying that Kenny Stabler was gay? If so, back up your hypothesis. I would love to hear this theory. No joke. If you can back it up, with some solid evidence, or, at the very least, some solid presumptions, based on what you know of the man, I'm all ears. My youngest son is gay. I'm very open minded. Willing to listen. Lay it on me. (I even gave you a thumbs up to get the ball rolling.)
@@raywalsh9152 Ask any New Orleanean. All the gay community in New Orleans was all a buzz about how great in bed he was. It was well known and accepted. I guess if you aren’t from there you didn’t know but the rest of us did. I even had a friend who was taxi cab driver and Kenny hired him to be his private chauffeur. He said he always had guys hanging on all over him and making out in the back seat everywhere he took him. Sounds like you might be a little too sensitive to it all. Weird though since you have a gay son. I’d a thought you would be used to it by now.
Madden also had a funny story about Marv Hubbard. Hubbard used to go around breaking windows everywhere he went. The biggest challenge as far as getting him ready to play was making sure he didn’t get hurt, or arrested, doing his favorite thing
@@brianevans6328 Another such case was Ron Santo in baseball. But Santo had become such as ass in his later years that maybe the veterans committee members decided behind the scenes to just wait until he died to put him in the Hall of Fame. He did experience some trauma though. His mother and stepfather were killed in a multivehicle accident in the early 70s driving from Seattle to Arizona to visit him during spring training. He had both legs amputated in the early 2000s as a result of complication from Type I diabetes. The most egregious case in any sport that I know of is Dave Parker in baseball. He was a misanthrope. He allegedly disliked white people and probably didn't get along with anyone that well. He missed parts of two seasons because of drug use but still managed more than 2700 career hits. I don't care about his social relations or personal failings. He played baseball and was one of the most feared hitters of his era. He was a big man who prioritized maintaining his quality as a hitter over power production. He won two batting titles and an MVP award during his career. I am sure other people have their candidates, as do I. But Parker clearly belongs. That's what the veterans committee is for.
Lived in Northern California during the time Kenny Stabler was QB with the Raiders. In that area it was either Niners or Raiders that's who was on TV. What a great QB, I could sit and listen to him tell stories all day long. RIP.
I loved Stabler. Raiders fan as a kid, I thought he was the best QB on the planet. I was devastated when he was traded to the Oilers. Devastated. RIP Snake.
Your comment could’ve been mine! When the Raiders had a real QB! Then saw your channel name, you know his daughter’s name is Alexa. Funny-mine too. 🤷♂️✌️
Bradshaw always includes Kenny as one of the greatest all-time and so do I! He could always find a way to win the close ones. The NFL changed the rules because of his ability to bend 'em. Definitely underrated. I would take over any of the Mannings, Elway, Marino, Brady, Fouts, etc.
Same here, I have 9 KC jerseys the signed Lanier is my best. I also have Stabler jersey that my brother in law and die hard Raider fan keeps begging me for, if I die before he does he gets it
Kenny was THE MAN on THE TEAM with THE COACH ... truly incomparable ... they changed the way THE GAME was played ... Eternal BLESSINGS to Kenny & John !!!
@@darrenmuller6747 He did a skit where he was the spokesman for the "lung brush", it was designed for heavy smokers. You would take this long skinny brush and shove it down your throat and brush your lungs out from all of the nicotine. Think a 2 foot bottle brush. Lol.
@@blownonfuel That must have been hilarious! I missed Kenny's Raider years (I was too young)and just liked him right off the bat with Houston and til his retirement. Just always thought he was one cool guy on and off the field. Thanks for sharing that!!
One of the great clutch Quarterbacks….ever!!! I used to love turning on the tv in the Chicago area to catch a late Raider rally on Sunday afternoon/night.
It's a shame and a tragedy that arguably the best QB of the 70s had to die before he was inducted into the HOF. "Snake was robbed of the experience of a lifetime that he so surely deserved. F#@K those members of the selection committee.
I love you brother, you were and still are my favorite player all time. I used to save money as a teenager to go see you play when you were on the road because Oakland is a ways from Lansdale Pa. Some how I know you can see these comments, God bless you and your family/friends!
He used to come to denver once a year party the night before that was fun . Then he would beat the crap out of them the next day entertaining player n person
One quiet night in the French Quarter Kenny and a buddy were walking down a street. I saw them and ran ahead like an idiot with my film camera, rounding corners to load film and get a picture of them. Kenny's buddy said, "Come here. I will take your picture with Kenny." I told Kenny, "I am a UGA grad who never liked Bama. I never much liked the Oakland Raiders. But I was always a Kenny Stabler fan." Somewhere in a shoebox deep in storage I have a photo of Kenny with his arm around me, both of us grinning ear to ear like we were best friends. I gotta dig out that photo when I have a week with nothing else to do.
I have played and watched sports since I was 6 years old( I'm 55 now) and have never put any athlete on a pedestal except for Kenny Stabler. He is the only athlete I wish I could have met. RIP Snake. You truly are missed.
More than what he did on the field was his swagger, chutzpah, persona, temerity....not sure what else to call it. He was the embodiment of cool, calm collected in all he did...
Marv Hubbard was awesome. I remember meeting his Mother when I was camping with my buddies in Allegany State Park in New York. She was such a sweet lady and made sure all three of us young guys went to church on Sunday. Truly a wonderful person.
@@GetRidOfCivilAssetForfeiture LOL!!!! Well, yea, I guess I did. It was a LONG time ago and I don't think she lived in a shoe though. LOL. Good one man!
Another great Stabler story is the one he told in his autobiography about the time the Oakland police called him in the middle of the night and told him they had Raiders' defensive player John Matusek in custody and asked Stabler to come down to the police station to pick him up. When Stabler asked what Matusek had done, the police told him they found Matusek wandering around shooting street signs with a .357 magnum!
Nah, the gun was found in his car. .44 magnum. I read the story in the newspaper when it HAPPENED. Matu was asked why a big guy like him needed such a big gun. He replied, "I live in Oakland."
@michaelmisczuk1188. That may have been a separate incident or the newspaper simply got the facts of the story wrong because Kenny Stabler - who clearly would know the true story - stated in one of his books (or during his interview on radio by sportscaster/sports radio talk show host Bob Costas many years ago) that he received a phone call from the Oakland Police Department and that they told him that Matusek was in custody at the police station when police found him wandering on the streets shooting street signs with a .357 magnum!
This one time, the snake was doing an auto signing at a local sports shop in town but our family had some other commitments at that time and couldn't attend. My mom called the guy putting it on and for a fee of `i was never told how much` we got to go to this guys house and meet Kenny before the auto signing event. I had worn my high school section championship football ring, and he had his super bowl ring on, and we were sitting on the couch watching college football (LSU home game if I recall) and comparing rings. I will never forget that moment in time. I think I was too young to fully understand and appreciate it then but I certainly do now. He was so kind and patient with me and my little brother. Absolute legend. RIP
Yeah... "The Snake" He was GREAT!!! One Helluva Quarterback!!! And a Great Storyteller!!! He was one of the original group of scrambling, improvisational play quarterbacks. Always Fun to watch!
Ken "Snake" Stabler told some of the greatest, funniest football stories you'll ever hear! I think my three favorite stories he told were (1) the one he told to Bob Costas and Joe Namath on Costas' "Costas Coast-to-Coast" radio show many, many years ago about when John Matuszak came to the Oakland Raiders in a player trade and head coach John Madden suggested that "Snake" room with Matuszak because Raider officials thought "Snake" would be a calming influence on Matuszak. Stabler told them that he'd rather room with Charles Manson!, (2) when Matusek came to the Raiders for his first practice session with the team in Santa Rosa, California, he came onto the practice field riding on either a horse or a moped wearing a German WW1 spiked helmet. Raiders' Managing General Partner Al Davis was standing on the sidelines next to LB Ted Hendricks and remarked, "I don't know about John"! Hendricks replied, "Al do you really think one more is going to make any difference!?" ( meaning, of course, that one more screwball on a team of screwballs wasn't going to adversely affect that team at all - in fact, it actually probably enhanced that team!, and (3) the story "Snake" told in his autobiography about how either TE Dave Casper or defensive lineman George Bueller loved to play with remote control cars. One day when head coach John Madden was in his office at Santa Rosa sitting at his desk, Casper or Bueller sent a remote control car with a bunch of lit fire crackers attached to it into Madden's office and sent it to stop right below his chair. All of a sudden the players heard, " POP...POP....POP, POP, POP, POP" and Madden comes rushing out of his office yelling, "Goddamnit who did that!".😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
@@donwaltz2798 . It has been so many years since I read Stabler's autobiography that I had forgotten that it was Ted Hendricks that rode onto the Raiders' practice field wearing a WW1 German helmet not John Matuszak. But the portion of my comment about Al Davis and Ted Hendricks chatting on the sideline about Matuszak is correct.
I was married to a MC pilot, student @.Pensacola. A beauty Queen background, I was placed in charge of the “Miss Pensacola” pageant. Actually got Kenny’s #. Called, to ask him to be a judge in the pageant… he answered the phone!!! Was a delightful, humble judge and person ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
As I got older and learned more about Football and watched more Football I realized just how good The Snake was. He called all the plays for the Raiders.
It's good to see and hear Mr.Ken Stabler, my favorite QB. GOD BLESS you and yours Kenny, love you Bro. 🖤👽 Did not know he'd passed until reading the comments, by the grace of GOD, may he rest in peace 🕊️. 🖤👽
I had the pleasure of meeting this man a number of years ago in a restruant he owned in Alabama. Came to our table and chatted for about 20 minutes. It was a true pleasure and total enjoyment.
I am so glad I could watch Kenny Stabler lead that great Raiders squad in the 70's. You knew when he crouched to take the snap that more often than not they would advance all the way to the end zone, whether it was at the start of the First Quarter or in the last two minutes. Great memories and stories from a master of his craft.
I remember watching all these guys when I was a little kid. They were all great players. Kenny Stabler was so fun to watch. I had no idea he was this funny.
Life long Auburn fan but damn the Snake was the man! I would love to have hung out with him for a while. On the field as clutch a player as ever played!
During dad’s decades with the Cowboys, we saw Kenny/Snake come through a few times with the Raiders, Oilers and Saints. Mr. Stabler would gather us kids together putting out a circle of chairs and tell us stories much like this one. He was an absolute great and fun guy just like you see in this discussion. Years and years of fond memories 😊 I miss you dad 🙏
Lifelong Raider fan - Kenny and Madden talking strategy on the sidelines was as cool as it gets. I would love to hear Kenny tell some Bear Bryant stories.
Wouldn’t it be great to have Stabler being interviewed now? Great story teller and a pretty damn good quarterback. I’m 70 so know all of these players but grew up in the Midwest so only got to see those teams if they made the playoffs.
There was no other quarterback you’d rather have than Snake for orchestrating a game winning drive. Just sit back there and pick you apart. One of the great characters of the game as well.
Snake was one of a kind. I shook his hand once at the Flora-Bama, forget the year...early 90s. Mullet toss. If you never been to one do yourself a favor, it's a good time. Being a Bama fan, I've always held him in high regard. Never saw him play at Bama seeing as how I wasn't born til '72. He was a great one...college and pro. RTR
As a 56 yr. old lifelong Bengals fan, I actually loved Kenny Stabler. There was just such a coolness about him, even as a 7yr.old....I sensed he was a *bit* different and him being LH made him that much cooler to me. Thanks Snake! *BOOM*
Stabler was a great storyteller. I could of listened to him all night over some cold ones. The man who looked over the playbook under the light of the jukebox. Players were built different.
