I'm a volunteer firefighter and I have climbed on roofs of houses and some buildings before, but I don't know if I would be able to climb those high buildings in the city with smoke constantly blowing in my face and with all that heavy gear. I can't imagine what it's like in the summer months. Give thanks to our New York City firefighters! They are definitely New York's bravest.

They should've bust the windows out of that car that's parked in front of a fire hydrant and ran the hose through to teach that driver a lesson.
@ph11p3540
@ph11p3540 2 года назад
Not necessary unless the middle part of the vehicle is aligned to allow for a hose pass through. Driver is likely getting a pair of traffic tickets totaling nearly $2000 (parking in front of a hydrant $300, Interference with an emergency vehicle $1500) After the fire the vehicle gets towed away for about $400 plus $200 daily storage charges at the impound yard located nearly a hundred miles out of the city. Don't worry this driver is going to feel the sting......at least that's how it works in my city.

@ponkor

I was an ambulance dispatcher for 8 years, using both analogue radio systems and digital, looks like the fire chief and all appliances are on the analogue for speed and the benefit of a small "closed" channel. "AIRWAVE" and other digital systems are awesome but there was a 2 to 3 second delay between paging them, and getting a response with digital. Analogue is fast and dirty but if you need to cut across another transmission in emergency,.....I'd rather have the old school gear .

This happens to be great footage. And also look at the physical work that's going into venting and opening up the soffit the roof to look for fire, and also vent. Now this just in the day oh, imagine at night time. Say the winds blowing 30 miles an hour with counting rain, or let's say it's snowing. When you jump off the tip of that ladder onto the roof sometimes they're not lined up evenly. Now let's take into consideration the turnout gear the Scott pack and everything else they have to carry with them. And that's just the truck company. The engine company is busting their humps trying to get water on this fire humping up two and a half inch hose to the roof into the fire floor and other areas. But this equipment in men could not access these places without the professional wits and knowledge of all the chauffeurs and pump operators from the truck and engine companies as well. And you have your division company with the chief set help this go in a smoothly orchestrated fashion as well as keeping all of them brothers safe and sound. These guys are truly professionals. What would we do without the FDNY they Ain't Heavy, they're our brothers.
