On the BART I noticed that they have these little cavities alongside the tracks under the platforms marked 'safe space', I guess the idea being you can roll in there and you won't get hit by a train. It'd be nice to see more subway systems get funding to put those in.
I responded to man under a train in a chemical plant years ago. Unfortunately we didn’t need an ambulance, only a coroner. It was a tank car and the wheel went diagonally across his chest. Bad sad deal.
TRUTH ARMY yes, unfortunately, very much so. Was a terrible deal, he was a lab tech and they will never know how he managed to get under the train. I have two cousins who retired from there knew him well. The plant tried to not pay the family as they tried to claim he had to commit suicide because you cannot just fall up under a rail car wheels. He was a very stand up guy with a beautiful family and everything to live for and no mental issues.
I figured the 1st 3. But if I dropped my phone down there then it woukd be bye bye phone lol not going down to get it! Wallet now thats a different ball game.. For obvious reasons. But still not gonna say I'd go down for it. There gas to be a smarter way to retrieve it right? Or are you just SOL if you don't jump down n get it?
Your supposed to report a dropped item to MTA and they'll get it for you. I hope you saw the video of the guy stuck between the train and the platform. He tried to get his phone or something. Didn't climb out in time. Also if you step on the wrong rail you will get electrecuted.
Jake W Many are suicidal, some are drunk and fall in, some get pushed in, sometimes medical problems cause them to faint and fall in. That subway moves something like 100 million people a day. So the possibility goes way up that something is going to happen!!!
At the end of all the subway platforms there is a blue light. If someone is on the tracks, run to the end of the platform & pull the handle by the blue light, it will shut OFF power on the tracks to that subway station and stop any subway train cars from entering the station. There is also phone there with a direct line to use in an emergency to the MTA dispatcher. Just pick up the phone after pulling handle to advise the MTA of the condition. You may just save a life.
Weeaboo Shitposter the first assumption is it could be a push so they send lots of cops, it takes equipment to move the train off of a person especially if it’s a space case. I am retired ems from sept 11
Most reporters and independent filming citizens dont do any investigative, or needed recording. Theyre just obnoxious to be obnoxious and jump behind something as capital as a citizens right! As if yall are violating his rights be moving him and others to safety.
Hi Mick, I love germany! Emergency Services Unit is mainly just in new york. They assist with any incident, medical, fire, or police. Most US places don't have it, We have similar stuff though. We have SWAT teams, which stands for Special Weapons and Tactics. Not as in depth as ESU and mainly just respond to shootings and stuff, but ESU does that too.
I'm from the West coast but do they really send out about 8 engines to one particular scene in the east? Out here I usually see two engines and the firehouse ambulance at a car accident scene or a burning house.
All depends on the dept and on several other things. But all in all FDNY has a load of manpower and they usually send plenty of help, which isn’t a bad thing. One thing is for sure, the IC can always turn them if they aren’t needed.
FDNY has a sop to always have at least 3 and 3 respond to a structure fire. The matrix is different for the different calls but the old saying was you can turn a unit back but you can't always get them there fast. You always want more man power than needed because it's a taxing job
The bag looks like it has wooden blocks, or cribbing, used to stabilize items on scene during lifting etc. My guess is that the bag is normally not carried on the truck, and kept at the firehouse for training, but when they heard what the call was, they grabbed it thinking they may need it.
So many nasty comments about how many people came to help. I GUARANTEE that if it was you under there you wouldn't be complaining they sent too many people to help.
I was coming back from the statue of liberty and going back to queens on a train a guy was trapped under it I couldn't stop crying I was like 14 I still see him trying to crawl out of the train I still feel the harsh stop of the train I still feel the bump under the train I still hear the silence and them panic I can't go on trains without fearing it will happen to me
haruko I was 17, my first job w. 34th street, we got to delancy street when it happened, I was so upset, people hollering to get off the train, I got off ran up the stairs.....I was so glad I was with a friend and not all by myself...I am the pesty lady who won’t go on the platform before the train pulls in, I stand on the stairs
My daughter was on an underground train here in London when a man threw himself under it.She said the entire train felt the impact and it’s something she’ll never forget. She couldn’t believe the number of passengers who kept moaning about their commute being delayed. That a man had just ended his life meant nothing to them.
Before the FDNY or NYPD gets to the scene a NYCTA member has got to verify that there is a "Man under" I know because I done it more than I care to remember.
This is a job for Car Equipment Department to detach the drawbar between the two cars temporarily and rejoin them after the person is rescued or removed from the trackbed.
I grew up in Washington Heights, NY and have seen some crazy shit in the subways. The homeless are notorious for just pushing ppl in front of trains...
Omar Massoud, not every fire truck cares the proper equipment for a rescue or what have you so the appropriate number of engines, trucks, etc will be dispatched to the incident.
It's better to have multiple people standing around than to be undermanned. Even if some men are standing back they are waiting in reserve for anything. It's also how FDNY responds since each truck has full crew stationed to them whether they need the full crew or not. So 2 trucks responding can already be up to 12-16 people.
These guys seriously need some less bulky PPC/PPE for technical rescue like this. Bunker gear is not suited at all. Not that they have any say, maybe they could lobby the city for issue of TR PPE.
FDNY could use some safety upgrades for their personnel, still wearing those outdated Cairns leather fire helmets. Modern 'motor-style' hardened helmets also protect your ears and neck, they have integrated comms and come with clips for flashlights or a thermal-camera, keeping your hands free for the job. Perfectly suitable for rescue-jobs like the one just viewed above, where we all witnessed brave firemen sticking their unprotected heads under the train...
When you’re a call chaser like LLN other people sticking around sucks, you can be inconspicuous by yourself but when other dudes begin standing next to you officials herd ya away with the rest.
LOUDLABS NEWS NYC if he was smart he would have left his phone he can always get another cheap phone then get a expensive phone but you can't always save a life
Its up to the NYPD where the Press can and cannot be. Its "nice" having a press card, but it doesn't guarantee access. Disobey anything the NYPD says and one may just get arrested.
eren yeager we dont Run to scenes. Walking gives you time to analyze and identify potential Dangers around. Ex: Guy gets shot, you run up to him now Boom, guy that shot him is there too standing next to you. Learn before criticizing EMS.
Seriously. You think firefighters and EMT's running into a scene won't cause a panic among bystanders, especially in a city like New York? Not to mention the fact that running could lead them to trip and fall and then they're no good to anyone injured. I guess it's easier for some people to talk shit about first responders than to actually take a second to consider why they do things.
eren yeager the reason is the ten second scene survey and not to get hurt going to the scene rushing into a situation without awareness means not becoming a victim and wind up on Lodi
Laban Johnson, they want their space so they rescue the guy. The person their trying to rescue they are respecting their privacy. The police weren't being rude. They need enough space to get the guy out. If you have a cellphone or a video camera in your hand, they will ask you to keep stepping back. (Or tell you to shut it off.)
I wear green and back the blue and red so don't get me wrong. Regarding privacy, that's a recent invention. I think if people want all that privacy In a very public incident such as this one which affects many lives they should call a private ambulance , private police force and private rescue squad
I'll give that one officer credit for not being idle, instead he was very proactive and informative in letting people know there's no use waiting for the train so they'd know to move on.
Poor fire dept. Trying to do their job, and all those half wits standing around trying to get a look, I fear for this world ,as there seems to be weeirdos e very where..Well done F.D.N.Y......
Why dont you stick to your backwater volly department, a thousand miles from the nearest subway station, that gets 2 runs a month, and we'll handle the big boy stuff. Every company brings something, no one is empty handed. Like the previous commenter said, they can use them to carry equipment as well.
azul8811 Take a joke, this is why I hate you big city firefighters, bunch of assholes who can't not be serious. I never said they did anything wrong or bad in their response... you just had to come in and be am overwhelming dick. No I've never had this kind of call but I never criticized how they did anything, I just made a joke. Christ man chill out.
All that manpower. All that equipment. For one poor guy. Keep all this in mind to present a perspective on the opposite. One scared pansy ass cop fears for his life and kills an unarmed person. By the look of this situation, saving lives looks to important to just shrug it off because someone felt some fear. It just dosen't add up.
*somebody house on fire House owner: *call 911 911: 911 can I help you? House owner: my house is on fire 911: sorry sir, unfortunately firefighter are not available right now. House owner: what the... what should I do now? 911: get out of your house and see it burn, the firefighter will be sent tomorrow (or never), while waiting u should considering making a call to your insurance company for a claim House owner: ........ 911: you welcome
