Cool to see these old pictures. Really sad what outsourcing did to this country especially Bridgeport. It was the number one manufacturing city in the word at one time.
@@thomasrastocky3871 it was closed before i was old enough to get in...i just listen to my elders , and learned about some serious activities surrounding that place . honestly as a kid i just wanted to go in and watch....same with the dog races , like an idiot i walked in there with my son thinking : dog races , fun ! and ofc got turned away ...that was the 1st time somebody mistook me for a degenerate gambler ... you are the 2nd ! ! ! i never placed a bet in my life .... if you knew how unlucky i was , you would get why i never bothered .....bridgeport is a great city imo....never leaving... much respect
Unfortunately it seems a large percentage of people think the games were “fixed”, which they were not. Maybe a few bad apples over the years, but you have that in every profession. It’s actually an amazing sport. Check out RU-vid, look for some of the more recent clips. You’ll see competition from Spain and France. World’s fastest ball game!
Bridgeport was the heart of Connecticut she had the most jobs factories Remington electric shavers Remington Arms Singer sewing machines was so many jobs Jenkin valves now she's just Banks and parking lots
@David Chatterton not so much back then. The 70s it started to get worse and by the 80s pretty bad. During the Crack epidemic Bridgeport Ct was named the murder capitol of the US. based on population of course.
I remember a lot of that. Maraczis burned n was rebuilt and eventually became Maraczis Dutchess. Then just Dutchess. Bridgeport was a manufacturing n industrial powerhouse, great paying jobs, neighborhoods were ethnic but safe. Jai-Alai sorta marked the timeperiod of decline. Gambling on fixed games, bigger mob presence, prostitution and drugs, it's sad how such a great city has turned into a welfare state. Seaside park, Pleasure Beach, Brairwoods, Tomlinsons, better known as the Greeks, the original not the bigger one. Damn good memories
