The Slavic stronghold, located on the north-western edge of the flattened hill belonging to Pińczów Hummock, operated from the 7th/8th century to the 10th century (and longer, as described later in the text). The defensive values of this place were appreciated much earlier, because archaeologists found tools of the Stone Age people. In the early Middle Ages, the facility was one of the strongholds of the Vistulans tribe. What is characteristic of this tribe, this site also had a very large total area - approximately 5-6 ha. The single-section, trapezoidal-shaped structure was surrounded by a system of embankments. On the south-eastern side, two embankments were built, divided and preceded by dry moats. The remaining parts of the stronghold were defended with triple ramparts. During archaeological research in the 1960s, the remains of several wooden residential buildings were discovered on the castle grounds. The later fate of the foundation is unknown. Some researchers believe that the stronghold probably burned down and that a settlement existed in its place between the 11th and 12th centuries, as indicated by archaeological finds associated with this period. Nevertheless, the documentation from the above-mentioned excavations contains clear information that none of the discovered building relics bears any traces of fire. Due to the difficulties in determining the phases of the stronghold's operation in the early Middle Ages, the hypothesis is also probable that there were no phases and the facility was used basically constantly from tribal times until the 12th century.
