I was tired of having the flatheads kick my butt, so I went to the Potomac River and terrorized the blue catfish for a day. The blue catfish were fired up and hitting hard and hungry. Thanks for watching!
Yeah man it has been a really crazy year and definitely tough. I can't seem to find the flatties on the susky this year. The Potomac is an amazing river and if you hit it up for smallmouth I'm sure you'll find them. I've been there recently and the fish seem very active. Where do you go to target the smallies? I know they do pretty good around the Fort Washington area.
I been all around from duncanno as far south as the safe harbor dam. I haven’t tried much else of the Susquehanna other than those areas bc all those places are already 1hr+ from me. I just got into smally fishing about this time last year but I’ve had my best luck earlier this year in April I caught a couple 3.5-4’s in a day out there off front street in Harrisburg but I haven’t been able to get any good ones since then. Tons of baby smallmouth all around been trying a lot of creeks lately. It’s been ok in the creek nothing too crazy 2.5 lbers
Awesome man! That’s weird guys aren’t catching a lot of big fish out of the susky, except that 66 lb state record! Seems like that record gets broken every year, I wouldn’t be surprised if you were the next one to do it!
There's some guys still catching em, but it's been a lot fewer. I really think it's the lack of rain we've had this year so far. Hopefully this little bit we got will help them turn on some. That record is probably going to hold a year or two, that's a lot of weight around here. Thanks for watching again and I wouldn't complain about breaking that record!
I found you on google maps lol/ 22.67 miles drive down the river from columbia island marina where we will put in most of the time. If I catch on to a few great honey holes up river I'll holler at you and give you a heads up. Would putting in further north reduce your drive time at all? There a 70'+ hole next to three sisters island around georgetown and I am seeing various 60+ holes all down the river on my garmin navonics. Best upgrade I did for my 93SV UHD was upgrade the maps to include east coat rivers etc. BTW you ever read the fish consumption warning on the DC license?
Hey thanks for finding the channel and checking it out! Did you see a review I did on there? And the Long Level area is my favorite area now, which I think is where you're talking about. I used to like Aldred more but the Columbia area has grown on me a lot. I've checked that three sisters area out and I like just a little further south by the wharf. Had some really good luck there. The three sisters area produces a lot of studs but it's really rocky in that area and I end up loosing a lot of gear. It would save me a little bit of time if I launch by the airport but not that much. I like fishing where I do because I can only gill net in VA waters and that's about the only way I can catch bait there. I'm useless with a cast net. And yeah I've seen the fish consumption advisory- I definitely limit how much I eat from there. I share a lot of the fish with different friends too so all those cats don't go home with me. Hopefully we run into each other on the river some time!
Hey man how'd the trip go? I was thinking of going down Sunday but I'm just going to fish the morning up this way for flatties. Doubt I'll catch many but it'll save some on driving. Good luck if you haven't gone yet, hope you find some monsters!
@TheFlattyDaddies Haven't made it down yet, unfortunately. Every time I plan it, it's either windy or raining. My luck, lol. Hopefully, the flats are off the nest here in a couple of weeks. 🤞
Hey thanks for checking out my video! I use the Marshal Hall boat launch out of MD. It's free, open year round, has a porta John, and is in great shape. Never had any problems there other than it can be a little busy if it's good weather with all the bass guys. Plenty of parking though.
