What i love... even tho Dale is joking about Jeff staying on the track. The second he realizes Jeff had crashed, he immediately changes that grin to a concerned face. He was a good man.
Taylor the great thing about Dale was he cared about the sport and most of the other drivers. He would propose ideas to help the sport not just himself.
Two of my favorite drivers, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt. Seeing this killed me. “Ain’t to smart.” 😂😂 but also as soon as he crashed dale looked worried. Did y’all see how quick his head turns to see if he’s okay?
There certainly was some good natured ribbing between the 2 of them at times, but it was never anything malicious. They clearly had a lot of respect for one another.
CoolDL not really Earnhardt HAD to respect respect Gordon when he started whipping everyone's ass. In Gordon's early years Dale Sr. was pretty hard on Gordon about him being a little high voice wimpy gay, as if he was joking but not really.. Nothing really funny about it. I bet it ate at Dale Sr. when Gordon started to win everything. After awhile I'm sure Dale Sr. conceded to the fact that Gordon was just better than him and maybe he was last his true prime. I'm assuming a lot but I think I could very well be right.
Wipe your mouth before you say something like that about Dale, fella. Out of a racecar, he was a gentleman. What you said absolutely doesn't make any sense at all.
Dale Sr. being the voice of experience there. Early on in his career he would have been the one all eager to be out on the track in questionable conditions and having a moment like that. I doubt if even he could have saved that one. It doesn't matter how talented a driver is, you can't teach experience, you've just got to earn it over time...
There hasn't been any really good racing since Dale and Jeff. I thought Junior might be able to carry it on, but he changed after he was badly burnt in the Corvette. He didn't drive as hard as he had before.
I helped Dale Sr. out once a long time ago when I was working for an upscale hotel. I wasn't big into NASCAR at that time and didn't know who he was. He never came across to me as a "Look At Me I'm Someone" person pretty much down to earth and needed help.
I was there when this happened. Our group was parked outside turn four waiting for the infield to open after time trials. We were listening to this broadcast on a hand held scanner. At the same moment Jerry Punch said "He slips and slides..." we all turned our attention to the wall and you could hear Gordon hit it along with seeing the dust and dirt he kicked up.
It's kind of neat though knowing you guys were there. As I'm watching Gordon walk down the track, I'm picturing you guys discussing it underneath the track.
Good memories, thanks for the upload. Looks like it wasn't raining in 3 & 4 on his warm-up lap, then it was coming down next time he went through there.
Yes he was - Nascar is deathly afraid of rain. A little wet from the skies and they all become pussies. Moto GP (motorcycles going over two hundred-twenty mph) race in the rain and they're on two wheels and don't have cages around them. Then there's Irish Road Racing (look 'em up on RU-vid) who'll race in the rain (at over two hundred mph) with trees, walls and buildings to contend .
Not so much the rain but the show on rain tires would be complete shit. Not that one can tell the difference anymore anyways. NASCAR racing is dying and will be gone soon.
He was still just a kid pretty much, in his early 20's still! I miss these days, NASCAR was actually good back then, now it's just a joke. Earnhardt and Gordon made it fun.
Two elite drivers from two totally different backgrounds and personalities. We likely will never see this type of thing again. Nascar had so much personality in the 90's.
TOPGUNCANADA00 Well, on that note, Dale didn't have a Chase for the Cup to screw him out of 3 of his championships, unlike Jeff. As in, yes, Jeff would have 7 championships if it weren't for the Chase. However, Jeff was younger in this video, so being dumber should be expected, you know.
You keep thinking Jeff would've had 7, if that makes you feel better. He probably thinks the same thing. You Gordon fans need to compare Jeff with Jimmie before you can compare him to Dale.
A simple fact of Earnhardt using his many years of knowledge and experience in this one. While Jeff Gordon was setting the world on fire, there still were some mistakes as we are all human. In this one, experience trumped youth and vigor.
Not trying to pick on Jeff Gordon........but that was priceless. By golly........Dale was right.......and look what happened right after he said it. Did I say this was priceless???
Yes they did so I had to look and found the video so easily. No sound though. Gordon said it was one of his hardest hits and seemed pretty pissed when he got out of the car. It was a hard hit and he walked away from it.
Cars sounded better back then. Also the audio seems to have been better back then as well. Now when they show the cars wrecking you can't hear the tires crying.
What should have been obvious is the lack of safety in Nascar. Back in the old days, when someone was in a wreck, everyone was really concerned, because they knew, a wreck could be fatal, now when a wreck, even a hard crash happens, no one says "keep your fingers crossed" or "hes moving around, looks ok" cause its not a real issue anymore. If everytime someone crashes, you are holding your breath, something needs to be done. If something was done sooner, people like Neil Bonnet, Kenny Irwin, Adam Petty, Dale Earnhardt and others wouldnt have died.
What year was that? I was at the qualifying, my grandmother wasn't able to tickets to the race... But I was there when it happened... I was 10-15 years old
I remember hearing that an Indy car driver went out with rain threating, the other drivers figured the track would postpone qualifying until the next day. this guy went out and on the final lap, he was beating rain all the way down the back stretch. then the rain cut loose, He had won the pole for the Indy 500, no other cars were allowed out on the track. Jeff grew up in Indiana hearing those stories.
Steve Anderson ... Any time one of those cars start up and enter the track... it's a wreck waiting to happen. I never really cared for Jeff Gordon but I won't disrespect his abilities. He was one helluva driver and I'll give him credit... he may not have been too smart when this happened but at least he was smart enough to know when to call it quits unlike his mentor Dale.
Idk I didn't see a rooster tail off of Gordon's car in the replay but I did notice going into 3 the track was shiny, and asphalt gets like that when it's wet.
The mistake wasn't taking the conditions too aggressively. The mistake was getting in the car in the first place and driving out of the pits. Difference between a rookie and experienced in any field. Some of the biggest blunders have been the leader racing someone that is 3 laps behind.
