No question Philip Bailey's vocals are just off the charts beautiful. The vibe on this song is just so beautiful and soothing. It feels like freedom to the soul.
The great Phillip Bailey of EWF,they were many falsetto singers around that time and they were great.However Phillip Bailey takes the prize.This man has a a 4 or 5 octave range, I understand that he was trained as a baritone. If that is true,that is crazy because most falsettos are natural tenors,first tenors to be more precise.When they sing,at a certain point they transition to the falsetto.Phillip Bailey is in a different league.Listen to him sing lead in I Write A Song For You.
Philip’s voice on this cut is like a high octane opera approach ! Composition is off the charts !! Conceptually, musicianship and vocals are bar none ! The Elements were in a completely different dimension compared to their contemporaries.
I saw Earth, Wind and Fire last August and already have tickets for August of 2024 . To hear Philip Bailey live blows away the album’s, his voice is still amazing. The entire band especially Verdine White bassist has SO much energy. There are other band members who do sing background. They are amazing to hear, watch,see and dance to . The production and arrangements were top notch especially for the time. It would stand the test of time even today. Maurice White was a musical genius.

Earth, Wind & Fire was my Uncle Mike’s favorite group. He just passed away this October (2023) and other people spoke about his love of E, W & F too at his funeral. The tears poured down my face to hear this just now. It brings back memories of when my sister and I lived with him for about 2 years. He taught us so much in that time. He was an Army Major and also a Marine and Vietnam veteran. He was only in his early 30’s when we lived with him. A young bachelor at the time raising to young teen girls for a short but impactful time. He later had a family of his own (three daughters). So my sister and I say we were his practice daughters. Maurice was so talented and if it wasn’t for Maurice we still wouldn’t have this Iconic band . Seeing them again in August ( btw Bailey, Verdine White and God rest his soul . This was surely a big turntable hit for many of the deep R&B FM radio stations in the U.S. during the 1970s. Another superb album-only track from EW&F is "See the Light," the song that closes out the '75 LP "That's the Way of the World." Beautiful soaring tune, and don't miss the fun "down home" surprise at the end.

I want to clarify that Phillip Bailey and Maurice White were the only ones who did LEAD vocals. But practically all of the other members except for maybe the horn section did backup vocals.
Love your comment on being told you look like Maurice White. . .arguably one of, if not my favorite male vocalist of all time! And though I'm not tremendously knowledgeable about EWF, I think of them as being as iconic and talented as the Beatles. This is a great blend of funk, R&B and soul with a catchy melody, soulful vocals and meaningful lyrics that explore the concept of imagination and dreaming. Earth, Wind and Fire solidified the growth of black album music in the 70's scoring 6 consecutive double platinum albums. OMG!! Can't believe you did EWF only one day I posted several videos/comments about EWF. Everyone keeps praising Philip Bailey, but damn, Verdine White is a GREAT, underrated bassist!! Check out "Fantasy" live. You'll understand what I mean.
Indeed, Philip is in his element of this tune. Take a moment near the end and listen to Verdine's bass lines. I feel if you had to Google "BASS line taking its time" this is it. No disrespect, I find it hard to believe you've never heard this.
