Here’s a clip of Earth, Wind & Fire performing at the “Yamaha All-Star Concert on the Grand 2020” 1/17/20 Enjoy and “Stay Smooooth”. / smoothjazzfamily
What a great concert and legends of music that together reflect the messages of a musician to the world: love for people with passion, creating joy and being creative TOGETHER - FOR THE GOOD OF THE PEOPLE and not as is mainstream in today's world; to fight each other!!! THANK YOU A THOUSAND for what you do and stay healthy and happy and hopefully the same tomorrow!!!🙏🙏🙏 Thank you YAMAHA and THX for this Vid!!!
These guys are the best. Back in 1975, I was in US Army basic training, and there was one guy in the barracks who had a boom box and one cassette tape -- EWF. Everybody in the barracks listened to that tape throughout our entire 10 or 12 weeks of basic training. Ever since, whenever I hear one of those tunes, it transports me back in time -- to a place that was very strange for a musician, but it provided a respite from all the intensity. And it's that respite that I recall whenever I hear those old tunes. Long Live EWF.
WayBack innaday Since I only mainly worked Weekends I had the honor of looking after my niece, and nephew I Made a VHS copy of Cinderella, and dubbed in the Gratitude album The video, and the music syncs so perfectly. Everyday For their nap I Would play the vid for them. They Are now grown And Have children of their own. They say When their babies turn 5 They Will have them report to me For Basic Training.
The whole world love Earth,Wind,And Fire!!! I'm from the Seventies Listening to them believe me they're the best hand's down...go listen to their records.
Growing up in the 70's and 80's, we should be so grateful that we can still listen to EWF live, that they are still able to play live concerts !! For me it doesn't matter if they sound a bit different than in their best years and that there are other members playing in the band. The most important thing is that Philip Bailey and the others can bring us back to that time and the memories of it ! And never forget : time doesn't stand still for anyone !! We are all getting older and changing ! Finally we all should be lucky and grateful that we heard them then and are still hearing them👍👌👋Long live EWF !!
30 minutes of circa 1974, is better than 1,974 minutes of circa 2020, with a musical lineup like this. Close your eyes, and you can hear and visualize Maurice and his fledgling group blazing their way into music history. Rest in Peace brother White...well done!
I have to echo the words of the great Larry Dunn here- it's so great to watch & turn ones ears to real live music - even if it's on RU-vid. Nothing but greatness on that stage in this 30 minute clip. When you have backing four members of the baddest band on this earth- the likes of true Hall of Fame talent such as the one & only Nathan East, former(& forever) member of EW&F - the multi talented hornman/vocalist Scott Mayo & another one of the baddest musicians easily of the last 50 years - Greg "Mouse" Phillinganes- that's an embarrassing amount of true musicianship in this era where it's been very much lacking for a long while now. Everyone in this fine video represents the few remains of a dying breed of kick ass live musicians who now are appreciated much more over the world than in their home country.
In the Stone has a great groove and push. The Funk is thick on Sing a Song. Let’s groove is one of my favorites, we covered it and the dance floor was always full. Great performance in front of the real music industry. Thank you Yamaha, Dai Jobu. Unlike the Grammy’s this venue is for working musicians. The horns are tight and the live mix is awesome. This fusion of Jazz, Funk and Rock is always impressive. NAMM is and will continue to be the yearly destination for Musicians on the West Coast.
It's nice to see Verdine but it was Nathan East who held the bassline and took control of the musicians. Thanks Nathan and friends to replicate the funk of the great EWF!!
Still Entertaining!!!!!!! I have a heart to give them props!!!!!!! Small errors may occur with any band at any given time!!!!!!! Love Earth Wind And Fire!!!!!!! Addendum: Fabulous solo by Larry Dunn!!!!!!!
It is amazing that Larry Dunn plays CASIO synthesizer,XW-P1 on his solo of “Easy lover “ from 27: 50! Of course Every players are using YAMAHA’s instruments so as organized by YAMAHA. Anyway it’s good solo and tone!
Everyone be complaining about the sound guy, but just remember that this was recorded with a phone, probably very close to a front fill speaker, causing it to sound very tiny, phasing issues, etc.
I`ve seen EWF 3 times absolutely amazing.... but this was a little shaky in places. Usually Phil Bailey knows exactly what the next song is. There are no dodgy parts. After the build up the guy gave them!!! They are hyper incredible normally. but i`m thinking this was hastily put together, albeit with some top session guys. I enjoyed it. But it left me nervous in places.
Phillip Bailey was sick during this show. I wonder if he had Corona? Many before March, when Corona was known had it bad and fortunately survived. Whereas many didn't. My cousin I know had it, she was sick in February 2020 with the ''FLU''. It was bad. but we think it was Covid. It really affects your vocal chords.
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a way to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the account password. I love any tricks you can give me
@Leonidas Preston I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Can you believe that people actually used to go to concerts? This is far too dangerous with covid. People should be wearing 2 masks. Stay home, save lives.
Wish I was there,I hear some negative critiques on their musical and vocal performance, who cares,i think they sound great,I think it’s great they are still playin.
Yes, I was not used to Phillip Bailey not knowing what the next song was. It was still a good performance and the beautiful sister can sing that Phil Collins song.
EWF is not Smooth Jazz. That’s just the name of our channel and what we primarily cover. At times, we post other genres of music since we have a love of all music.
Not the same without Maurice White, Larry Dunn, Johnny Graham, Don Myrick, Ralph White, Andrew Wolfolk, Al Mckay, Phoenix horns and Roland Bautista that made the sounds of the 70's and 80's hit recordings. I can't even recognize the new EWF except the remaining three Philip Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson. Glad the band is still playing but you can never sound better then the original and without the founder and genius song writer, lead vocalist, multi musician and leader in MAURICE WHITE, Philip Bailey is NOT complete in his vocals.
that's not the EWF band. the "band" members are the LA session super stars. this a "put together band" the the principle band members of EWF on the Yamaha stage
last year i heard al mckay's earth wind and fire experience - absolutely fabulous ! but at this namm-concert it's a litte close to ew and f - the female backing vocals don't fit at all - as well as many are sung wrong. and two bass players are definitely one too much.
@@brachialmusiker That's not the full earth wind and fire band. Those are musicians from the Namm shows Nathan east is the second bass player. Their are the three orginal members. Verdiine White. Philip Bailey. And Ralph Jhonson. Those are the three out front.
well, i know but in fact there's the "original" bass player, there's no need for a second one. don't think, the original playes that bad, nathan east had to help.
@@MrOverdogg I totally agree !! We, growing up in the 70's and 80's, should be so grateful that we can still listen to EWF live, that they are still able to play live concerts ! We all are getting older and for me it doesn't matter if they sound a bit different than in their best years and that there are other members playing in the band a well. The most important thing is that Philip Bailey and the others can bring us back to that time and the memories of it !!
@@larrio32 Sorry but if you look close, Nathan isn't always playing. I think they wanted a combination just to make sure someone was covering the bass parts.
@holder207 Yup , Sometimes Nathan wasn't playing and Verdeen was, and sometimes Verdeen wasn't playing and Nathan was, so I think they just wanted 2 bass players just to make sure since both of them were kind of dancing around a little, hand claps and stuff like that.
@@Oneness100 Verdine is known for showmanship, jumping around on stage, most shows he's not playing, his fret position seldom changes, that's why Nate is on that stage....
Some shameful sound engineering exposed some of the rougher parts, especially with regards to backing vocals. Shame, But not the first time I have seen this happen to them. This is LIVE music by some of the tightest musicians around. They are very worthy of that build up introduction.
I find this pretty cool. As a massive TOTO fan it's cool to see Nathan East, Greg Phillinganes and Amy Keys. All played with TOTO. I love EWF. But I'm sorry to say that the vocals arn't there anymore. Sometimes out of tune. Sometimes off beat. Still a cool clip though.
Verdine has played some incredible bass for decades. The more I listen to his earlier work the more I realize how great he was. Unfortunately now he's not really playing anymore. I wish he would still put some importance on his playing. He forgot about the pocket and is happy to be dancing around acting like he's playing. Shame....
