Before my MIL passed, this was the only thing she ever requested I bring for the family dinners. I always obliged. So glad I did now that she has passed, because every time I make it again it gives me such peace knowing I did that for her while I had the chance. I always turn mine over though, so you see the beautiful toasted layer of coconut and pecans on top! Such a wonderful dessert to take to any function, makes everyone feel like you really put some love into it! I cook like my grandmama did! ♡
I have been making this cake for along time. Carrying it to different fellowships. It is everyone’s favorite. I am so glad you made it for your followers, because it is such a joy to watch people’s reaction to eating something so delicious. Thank you, for Blessing us with your Love for cooking and showing us your & Chris’s Love & respect for one another.
That is so sweet! This is how I feel about Chocolate Eclair (the kind with Graham crackers, vanilla custard/pudding and chocolate glaze) -- My dad always requested it and now every single time I make it I think of him. I've found that finding your family's favorite recipes makes them feel special while creating sweet memories of you for them as well! *Can't wait to try this one! ❤
My birthday is next week and I plan on making this for myself. Anything German chocolate is my all time favorite. Do I plan on sharing this delicious sweet concoction with anyone? No, I will enjoy every bit of it myself, freezing some to make it last longer. That way, celebrating me, will last longer than just one day. Thank you for sharing this easy dessert.
I have been making this cake for 25 years, got the recipe from a friend at work. It has been my all-time favorite ever since. Make it, you won't be disappointed.
I use rubber bands like that also one of my nieces call me the rubber band aunt,I joined and told her I would put one on her if I could find one that fit rubber band keep things organized and neat even when I have a lot of mail to go to p.o I rubber band so everything stay neatly together
My Hubs favorite cake is German chocolate! This looks amazing. I just made him a German chocolate bundt cake. He said "You've made the world a better place with this cake". Ahhhh...he'll really like this one. Thank you! 😊
Oh my gosh my nana made me this all the time growing up. I thought I would never have this again. Thank you so much for sharing. I miss her much this really took me down memory lane.
If you've never had Caramel swirled in your german choc batter then baked it's a must try!! It doesn't take a lot maybe a 1/4 to 1/3 cup..but Man does it make a huge difference Wow yummilicious! I'm gonna do your recipe . I bet it simply delishes!! Can't wait! 😁
@@cathybrown4102 I never use powdered sugar for german chocolate Cake. I use regular white sugar to make the cake and just swirl the caramel in the batter before baking. It doesn't make it overly sweet it makes it more moist with hints of caramel. 😉
@@cathybrown4102 M y mom and I always cut sugar by 1/2 or even down to only 1/3 called for in all recipes. Every pot luck we went to, ppl made our baked goods disappear FAST! I've now gone one step farther, and use Truvia (stevia) instead. One tsp. goes a LONG way! No one knows the difference. Much better for health!
it really doesn't taste quite like a German Chocolate because of the cream cheese, but it is so good, especially if you make icing to go on it! 6 tbsp of Dr. Pepper, 2 Tbsp coco powder, 1/2 c of butter, cook till it boils, remove from heat, add tsp vanilla and 4 c powdered sugar. mix with mixer until smooth and pour over cooled cake and enjoy!
Oh this is such a great cake! I get so many compliments when I make it. My 4 year old son watched this with me and after you said 'bye y'all, love ya!' He got the giggles and now he's running around our house yelling 'BYE Y'ALL, LOVE YA!' over and over 😆
You know Carla, I do believe there are people who take pleasure in being foul for no reason at all- sad as that is. So foolish if it's intended to make a statement- they're the only ones who have to carry that tally card around~ The rest of us will simply eat cake & smile👍😀
This is my favorite cake. It is addictive but easy to make and you can add goodness to it. Chocolate chips added is just too good. Just a easy cake to learn to make.
Oh for cryin out loud!!! I'm just never gonna lose this weight messin with you! Gosh I just love you and your food, ALL OF IT!! Except for okra. I tried, I really did , but that stuff for me is a noooo go. You've taught me how to make so many things. Thank you Tammy. I really appreciate all you and Cris do. Stay Blessed ♥️
I don’t know how this came up in my feed, but I am loving this. This feels like home. I mean, Lordy mercy! Somebody that talks all southern like me! Likin’ and subscribin’ right now.
Now why are you over here starting something! I’m gonna surprise my Daddy with this one. He LOVES German chocolate and he’s about to retire soon. This would be a great celebration treat for him. Thank you! 🥰🙏🏾
I am SO making this! German chocolate was always my favorite cake! As a child, my mother would inevitably make me a red velvet cake for my birthday because ‘she knew it was my favorite’. I never had the heart to tell her differently because I knew that red velvet was obviously her favorite… LOL. Oh my! One thing for sure is that THIS is a lot less work than an authentic German Chocolate cake. Thanks Tammy!
I can definitely see why they call it Earthquake Cake! Thank you, gonna make this for my husband for Father’s Day. German Chocolate is his favorite cake. He oughta really love this!!!!
I got this recipe from my brother years upon years ago and it is absolutely delicious. Kind of reminiscent of an almond Joy in cake form and pecans instead of almonds
Great tip! Thank you for sharing! :-D Another good tip is to use a (slender) length of Saran Wrap (plastic wrap)...when it's slightly stretched it makes a great "tie" for bags and holding things together (it's like a bungee cord), etc. In short, It sort of serves like a bread tie twist, bag clip, rubber-band tie. I tie "plastic wrap" around most of my frozen food bags. When I "misplace" my bread ties-I use a piece of "stretched" plastic wrap to tie off the bread bag, cookie bags, etc. I especially like using a piece of "plastic wrap" to hold my electrical cords in a neat bundle. And to keep my gift wrap paper from unraveling! It's better than using tape because I don't have to worry about damaging the gift wrap paper. :-D
I absolutely love German Chocolate Cake! It was one of my paternal grandmother’s specialties! I can’t wait to try this! I hope it would have made her proud! Thank you!
Good idea about the cherries. My sister hates coconut. I will try the cherries. She also doesn't like pecans but used walnuts instead. I only did that on just a 4th of the cake for her and the rest the regular recipe.
Thanks! Update. I made the cake, mine did not turn out, exactly like yours, but the end result was loved by everyone. The pan I used was not deep enough so it overflowed and started smoking up the kitchen. So I had to take it out while we cleared that out, then put it back in to finish baking. I thought it was going to be awful. But believe it or not, it came out delicious. There is none of it left. Shared with eight people and they cleaned it up. Love your tips. I am using rubber bands now which is much easier on my poor, arthritic hands. I was having a hard time, even squeezing the clips. It’s genetics. This cake is a true winner and everyone should try it. I don’t always try recipes I see, but you made it look like even I could do it. And I did. Thank you so much. You’re the best❣️🙌🏻💕🥰 PS. One of the people that ate it said we should call it volcano cake, because mine erupted, lol. 😉🤣🥰
I made this cake and took it to work...I came back with an empty pan! Lol...they loved it and it's absolutely delicious! I use rubber bands on my bags too, also in the freezer. Thanks Tammy!
The rule in our household is everything is better with cream cheese (even store bought pecan sandies). We sent one of our kids to the store for ingredients!
oh, dear…”store bought pecan sandies” - these were one of my late Mom’s fave cookies…cream cheese with these cookies…did I understand correctly…hmmm…; plus, growing up in San Francisco my late Mom would buy Woolworth’s German Chocolate Cake, a small one…but, so so delish…was holding off leaving a comment, but this is just the right time to chime in as this is my 1st time viewing these cooking demonstrations…thanks & God bless to all‼️❣️‼️Greetings from the San Francisco Bay Area: Broadmoor/Daly City, CA USA 🇺🇸 ❤, Ms. Virginia
This cake is so good, I use to have a friend bake this for me for my birthday every year , but she retired from the job and we lost touch, it is delicious 😋
Oh yes, I'm 65 years old and my grandmother and mother both used and swore by Baker's coconut. When I was a young bride trying to save money, I once purchased a generic, "store brand" coconut. I only did that ONCE! Have since cautioned my daughter and every other young person I taught to bake not to make the mistake I did. I'm usually not brand-picky, but with coconut and a few other items, brand DOES matter.
I had made your German chocolate cake from scratch. As a Birthday gift. It was great. I had way to much frosting so i made this for my family. Wow this is incredible. Hope and pray you are feeling better. Thank you
Made this yesterday for my dad's 87th Birthday. It was a huge success and so yummy!!! Thank you for the great recipe! Next is the strawberry cake that I remember from my mom's kitchen
I’ve made this before and it was a huge hit. I’m making for my assigned item to bring to a holiday planning party. I watched your video to see how you made your’s, and it’s the same exact recipe that I have. I like the way you swirled the batter. Thank you for sharing your video with us🙏🏼
This cake can definitely be made a little LOWER-IN-FAT& SUGAR! ;-D SUGGESTION: *Pillsbury "sugar-free" cake mix (Chocolate), use "unsweetened" coconut, low-fat butter (or) 1/2 cup of low-fat mayonnaise, FAT-FREE (or) Low-fat Philadelphia Cream cheese (Neuchatel cream cheese), substitute the powdered sugar with SWERVE powder sugar "OR" any of your favorite powered sugar substitutes. Continue with the rest of the recipe as instructed. This version allows you the satisfaction of REDUCING some of the fat and sugar! This will keep you on target with dieting and/or a healthier lifestyle.
Since I first met my husband on a blind date over 23 years ago, he's ALWAYS made me a birthday cake (and he's NOT a baker). Some years were better than others, but a few years ago, I found this recipe and he's been making this for me ever since. I look forward to it every year. It's not the prettiest cake in the world, but DANG, it's GOOD!! I only have to wait one more month now before I can eat it again this year. YUM!!!
I made this cake today and it turned out absolutely delicious!!! Love coconut and chocolate. Everyone loved it. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Keep your videos coming!!!!
I am going to make that for my doggie's vet, for his birthday. He loves German Chocolate cake but I just don't have the energy to make a homemade one right now. And, if you said it is good, I believe you!!! Thank you for so many wonderful recipes!
All my elders are gone now. My Mom baked every weekend. My sister and I had to choose either licking the spoon or the bowl everytime. I miss that. German Chocolate was her favorite. I'm going to make this on 4th of July. And I'm choosing the bowl to lick..😝 Thank you for the recipe!
Mom-in-law made the bestest of the best of cakes and it was this Earthquake cake and yours is just like hers. Thank you for adding the list of ingredients here instead of having to send me off to a website to get it.
_I’m not much into German Chocolate, but I’ve got to try this recipe😍. I was sold when I saw the Pecans and drooling with the Cream Cheese dollops! Yeah, I’ll be making this for July 4th for sure_
I was so pleased to see how you added the eggs, that's how I learned to do it. If folks ask me why I do it that way I tell them that way if one egg isn't good the other eggs in the bowl aren't wasted. 😉
