“In a world full of Starscream’s. Be a sky-lynx.” *Bisects myself, my upper half become a twisted visage of a gruesome bird, while my lower half becomes cat*
@@benvoliothefirst He's already Lieutenant Commander according to his G1 toy bio and Springer jokingly calls him commander modesty in the G1 cartoon. Both suggest he has the ability to back up his boasts.
@@BagOfMagicFood See, it's SkyLynx because SKYfire is on top and StarLINX is on the bottom. They would have to reverse centaur it with the cat on top of the spindly bird legs for that one. :D
Anybody else think an early Bayverse redesign of SkyLynx would be absolutely amazing. He seems like the kind of character who would benefit from a realistic, overly complex design possibly due to him being so large. Larger characters tend to be improved by complexity.
"It's a toy" is the best way to summarize my feels for this package. Just looking at this iteration of Sky Lynx gives me vibes or the 80's wacky-art cartoon-show magic and toy theme of "who gives a crap/it's fun to play with".
The cat and bird share a single mind, which technically makes Sky Lynx the coolest Duocon since Overlord. Also, no, they aren't dating. They're both dating Slash, the only other Transformer with nearly as toothy a grin.
I love Skylynx because he's so mental, and that's both in design and character. The self-obsessed super confident just suits this crazy figure to a tee, and I kind of love him for it.
I imagine when Bob Budiansky was developing the character traits for all of the toys, he saw Skylynx and had a laughing fit. A dragon made out of a shuttle bird and a tank puma that can roll AND walk with a built-in motor - the single most amazing and ridiculous toy ever designed. And to be honest, if _I_ was a shuttle-tank-dragon I would be just as up my own exhaust as Skylynx too.
Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy - Earthrise Commander Modesty is magnificence. Sky-Lynx in all his modes are awesome and greatly detailed. But I'm gonna display him in his Space Shuttle Launch Platform base mode. Plan to collect all the Studio Series DOTM Wreckers: Roadbuster, Topspin and Leadfoot, and display them around the launch base. As a reference to their appearance at the secret Autobot launch facility and space shuttle "Xantium" from DOTM. -Hoping that the new Commander Class section will have more entries, like Autobot Broadside and Decepticon Tidal Wave.
And after all, he's an egotistically regal, entitled son of a gun. Granted, it's more swagger than ego for him. Yeah, definitely the perfect Transformer to use the royal "We".
The thing I love the most about this toy is, it's one of those rare times Hasbro can do literally nothing else with this toy. Like, it IS Sky Lynx and it's impossible to remold, repaint or do literally anything else with it than BE Sky Lynx. Maybe they could release a Shattered Glass thing with this but, it is just really funny to me how much they had to dedicate to making this thing.
It's kind of sad that every G1 Galvatron has been roughly the same level of quality as the ORIGINAL, with one step back for every step forward. Universe had a weird, complex transformation that had parts popping off and superfluous parts for a mode they didn't advertise, then Titans Return had the daft leg panels, weird third mode, and terrible flip-up helmet that killed his neck articulation. And it's just been those three toys (including the original) recolored over and over.
Hey, with kingdom and Studio Series 86 his two goons have already got some pretty plush figures and we know he’s coming for both of those, so things are looking up! This could be the year of Galvatron. Which would kind of make sense at this point.
I love the fact it says “magnificence” on his side. Like, Sky Lynx in the show and comics is a full himself and a bragger happy to tell you how amazing and talented and cool he is. Like Springer calls him “Commander Modesty”. That is to say you do understand why he has such a ego. Decepticons probably wet themselves in fear when they see him in all his terrifyingness come at them. He’s looks incredibly scary but acts rather posh and smug, I love the contrast. I just got him for Christmas and I can’t stop playing with him lol.
Skylynx is just so self-aware of his own awesome design. He's also utterly huge, being more massive (but a bit shorter) than most Combiners. Imagine you're a 25 foot tall Decepticon goon having the time of your life when all of a sudden a dragon twice as tall and three times as long as you drops down, decreeing his splendor and magnificence, calls you a loser, and crushes you into the dirt. Knockout or Nickel or Flatline fixes you up, and you're now living with the belief that you may have just had your aft handed to you by a demigod.
@@Ethan-wb2cm Sky Lynx is a narcissist and a show off, but he also has the burning heart of a hero of justice. He's like the knight that says the evil dragon, except the knight IS the dragon and isn't evil.
His Wiki entry does say that the bird and lynx parts are autonomous from one another, but makes no mention of different names for them. So I'm hazarding a guess that they are separate parts of one being, yet still able to function independently
I was already giggly, but then you did the "Lion Down" pun and I absolutely LOST MY SHIT. I had to pause the video cause I was laughing so hard, thank you for making my day so much better. :D
Man, having watched this a few times now as Ive been unwell and just scrunging the tube the past few weeks, I think this is one of your most dense and well written episodes. You have all of your gimmick jokes, a couple of new great jokes, and so much character from stuff that feels more improv to a clearly well edited moment. Seeing you grow over the last few reviews to REALLY push your own envelope has been super cool. You are the Sky Lynx we all inspire to be Thew, not just another Starscream
GET HIM! He is fantastic :) Only dodgy part is a loose wing joint, but that can be worked around with all the f****** dozen other wing joints. He is truly an awesome toy... Which suits the character really doncha know...
Thank you Thew for introducing me to the word 'Coaca'. Also, if I ever became a fighter pilot, the title 'Booster Rooster' would 100% be my callsign. :)
Thew- "Oh my God... *descends into laughing fit that you can't help but join in with!*" Great to see you here again, Thew! Thank you for sharing this with us and hoping you're doing well among all this Corona virus madness!
Thew, my man, this review was absolute fire! The editing, the script, the photos it all just felt so wholesome and on point, seriously you should be proud of yourself ;)
G1 Sky Lynx didn't NEED accessories to be awesome, and one of the few figures that came with none. But those pods do fit in better than the dumb blades for a combiner weapon CW Sky Lynx had.... Hey, put those pods on the pegholes on his neck. It'd be like the panels the original had there. Now with guns.
I still can't believe that Hasbro waited years to finally crack open the Sky Lynx bottle. He's like a fine wine, he just gets better and better with age
I think Hasbro waits until at least three -- and up to five -- Third-Party companies make versions of characters they're taking too long to get around to before they're satisfied the character is a worthwhile tooling investment, then >BOOM!< Here's something similar, only official, loads cheaper, and with (hopefully) less brittle plastic! Suck on it, impatient collectors! And then five more years of a bazillion Optimus, Megatron, Starscream, and Bumblebee iterations.
@@Beedo_Sookcool The Core Four as I call them always sell extremely well so they're basically there for raising funds for the rest of the line. But I honestly don't think most of the Hasbro management team give a pair of dingo's kidneys about unofficial toys.
You gotta check out Unique Toys Dragoon (third party knight megatron) It one of the best looking robot modes looking like a knight straight out of a fantasy RPG with a transformation that is absolute wizardry.
This really made my day. You’ve put a big ol smile on my face. It’s been real rough lately so this means a whole lot. Your enthusiasm and beaming smile is contagious, so thank you.
What an awesome entertaining review. I've just purchased an original G1, but now you have convinced me I need the other 2 as well, especially this Earthrise 1. He is absolutely majestic!!
Frist new reveiw as a sub. Found you a week after the clif jumper mega episode (megasode) and have been hooked ever since. You are genuinely my favorite reviewer now, its always a blast binging your stacked backlog (stacklog). Ps your word Mashups are the best so I thought id through a couple in there!
Fantastic review of a truly magnificent figure, Thew! By the way: the shuttle wings will solidly clip onto those little tabs you mentioned, but it requires a lot of force.
Not necessarily force: at least on mine, you have to connect the wings while they're facing up first, then rotate them down into the tabs. Should keep them super secure without any strength needed.
Gotta say, even amongst your routinely excellent, entertaining, and informative reviews, this one stands out even further than usual in all those categories, mate! Thank you for brightening my day!
I really love your review. Fun funny love it. I just received my skylynx yesterday. I also had trouble with the shovels wings. I found out if I push in really hard they actually snap in very tightly and strongly and they are perfectly good to go. No more floppiness.
I happened to be drinking water at the time of the first SINGLE WEAPON PORT and water barely made it where it was supposed to go from bursting out in laughter. And I loved the garage storage pronunciation. Love your reviews!
The base mode makes up for the fact that the original toy could walk. His size looks great and he is exactly how his shuttle is named, Magnificent! If you don't want to watch season 3, there's always my Retrospective on him to make up for that.
9:04 In G1, they seem to be a hive mind. Sky Lynx can talk through both individual modes (Bird and Lynx) and combine them on will. It’s a sort of an Omega Supreme situation where he’s one robot that can divide his arms into a rocket, his head into a tank, and his body into a battle station.
Whew that was an emotional ride. Went into the review with Sky Lynx pre-ordered, was ready to cancel when I realized how daft the robot modes are, came back around with the base mode (doesn't hurt that I'm fully invested in the micro masters), and then confirmed that I will try to get Scorponok who I've kinda been on the fence about. Also with the shuttle and launch base mode, I can't help but to feel like Sky Lynx is styling on Siege/Earthrise Astrotrain. There's just going to be no comparison if I have them both on display at the same time.
Great review as always, Thew! CW Sky Lynx actually was (or still is) the definitive version of him to me because I really don't care about the dinobird mode and totally dig his modernized design. And the lynx mode being his combiner mode (and that he actually has one now at all) is such an awesome gimmick for him. But this one is giant, has a base mode, a dedicated lynx mode, some other cool gimmicks and features and nice effect parts. Kind of sold me on it. And I got the same question here: In this and the G1 version of him are the Dinobird and the Lynx two independent concious beings or are they more like Overlord in alt mode or the (old) Duocons? I'm really intrigued.
Loved the word play and puns. A great look at a figure I passed on. I love the shuttle, I agree the crawler transport alt mode is a bit boring, but it's how they transport shuttles. When not trying to resurrect Optimus Prime to solve all their problems... Base mode is how I'd display them.
I just ordered one. love your videos' because there about is having fun with transformers unlike most reviews who complain about every inch of them. keep up what you do :)
