Lmao can’t tell if this is a joke or not. Considering how books (and more importantly, the cost of books) are the bane of every college student’s existence 😂😂
It speaks to the quality of this dish that I was able to get a really good result without so much as looking at a recipe. I am not usually a fan of cherry tomatoes but it works. As someone who has now made this, here are some tips: When he says be generous with salt, TRUST HIM. The flavor of cherry tomatoes is extremely distinct and sweet, so they need a lot of help to become a good pasta sauce. You can always salt your pasta after the fact, but it’s way better if you get it on the first try. If you want the sauce to be even creamier, add a bunch of cheese. I used Romano in mine. If you think the tomatoes are done reducing, you’re wrong. Go a little further than you think you need to and the sauce will be richer and the cellulose will break down better.
Cherry tomatoes are expensive where I live. Using a can of diced tomatoes gives equivalent nutrition at a much lower price, plus it's pantry stable so you don't worry about throwing it out if it's around too long.
I also kinda just... don't like the amount of "skin" you get from a bunch of cherry tomatoes? It's like maximizing the surface area to "tomato innards" ratio by having a bunch of tiny tomatoes
My mother thought me how to cook when I was 10 and when I went to university I was so greatful for it because most people there would spend all their money on fast food and then starve for the rest of the month and I was here making home cooked meals and I even saved a lot of my money and bought clothes and school equipment. It was honestly a good time for me financially
So you also worked? If it was financially good for you? Or did you get alot of money from your parents. Because i’m having a hard time saving money and i’m cooking like 5-6 times a week
@@AoT540 bro I'm still in 11th and i also want to go pursue foreign studies.... I'll ask my mom to teach me to cook atleast basic meals so I won't have to spend money on fast food
@@devilarmy6050 Huh? My response was to the guy who commented first. But yeah I say do it! Foreign studies are awesome! When we’re young we should travel the world and experience other cultures/people/… Goodluck!
In the UK I feel this is much cheaper. Pasta being like $0.80 a portion feels extortionate when here you can get 500g of dried pasta for that price and do multiple meals
the pectin from the cherry tomatoes just makes the perfect sauce. So perfect, that one might argue that a fresh sauce made with cherry tomatoes is superior to other sauces
An easier and cheaper recipe is pasta with tuna, tomato sauce and onions, which is more or less the staple lunch for pennyless italian uni students. Chop and brown a bit of onion (doesn't have to be a whole onion, up to personal preferences) then add tomato sauce (half a bottle for 1-2 people should be enough), a pinch of salt and then a can of tuna (i personally throw out the tuna oil but that's up to personal preference too) and you have an easy 5 min sauce that should be fairly inexpensive too.
This dish is called "Pasta all'arrabbiata", it's a really common dish from Rome/lazio region of italy. It doesn't need to be made with cherry tomatoes sauce (Ciliegini in italian) but I prefer it this way because of sweetness and another tip, put pecorino cheese on top! Don't use parmiggiano or others parmesan like cheeses
Yeah but I live in the Netherlands but Dutch food has no taste. It isn’t delicious except for some things. I’m Moroccan and if we are on vacation we buy local stuff like watermelons, bananas vegetables etc and its very cheap
I just cooked this recipe, surprisingly very tasty. I didn’t have olive oil so I use a little bit of vegetable oil and butter mixed and it turned out very yummy. PS: And yeah added a bit of crushed oregano when frying garlic. It elevates the smell and flavour.
The reason is they don't grow in your country, and you should consider using different produce that does grow near you instead of insisting on following the recipe
@@GratsielaLily Maybe you're not getting the good tasting tomatoes and your insistence on religiously following what's written on a page without questioning anything is making you buy things that had to be frozen, imported and marked up, but you're still going to complain about how the ingredients are expensive for you much while making no effort to figure out why that's the case or paying attention to where you live enough to figure out what you can buy that tastes the same and isn't triple the price.
So my mom tried this recipe after I showed it to her. She didn't follow a few of the instructions but it was incredible. The best pasta I had in my entire life.
Omg I tried this recipe and loved it so so so much. Thank you so much It’s healthy too guys I had it during my weight loss journey and it totally supported that.
That's how I make them, when I don't have any mince in the fridge. I kind of learnt to do it by myself but I'd definitely have appreciated this when I was 17-18 (I'm 26 now).
As an italian I absolutely love this! It is a very common and beloved variant of pasta al pomodoro (with and without hot peppers), especially in more rural areas of the country where the tomatoes will be homegrown. My father used to make this dish often during tomato season and it's so easy to make that it's actually the first thing he showed me how to cook when teaching me! Yet it is so delicious, definitely a must try. A little advice for anyone that wants to try and cook this dish: if you can, get your cherry tomatoes at different stages of maturation. It will significantly enrich the flavour spectrum. Experiment with the proportions to create your perfect mix. You will be surprised at how much the flavour can change
A few advice from an Italian to make this pasta even better: first, crush the cherry tomatoes with your hands in a bowl after cutting them in half, they will release a lot of water that you can throw to intensify the flavor. Second, to make it in a different way, cook some red sweet onions (even better if you can find Cipolla di Tropea) and, the final touch, use oregano instead of basil. Buon appetito!
And the tomatoes release their water right in the pan why would you separately cut, crush, then add the tomato water? if anything, you lose the amount of liquid in the tomatoes that stick to your hand when you crush them, that would've stayed in the pan This advice sure is something 😭😄
@@pasrh4138 my father is Calabrian and in that region origano is essential and put anywhere. For example it goes perfectly with fiordilatte mozzarella (not bufala), with a pinch of oil, salt and origano. The recipe I gave you is the one my aunt makes and you should trust her, she is one of the best cooks I know.
I see how good it is to eat your way. Plus amounts are very adjustable which is important if I want to have someone over. Your audio is excellent and this is one of the best channels.
Dude, I am making this recepy, and the sauce tastes better than any tomate I have ever taste in my life, it is so sweet and beatufil. I will make this often, thank you SO much.
Let's be honest, most of us if we made anything like this, was garlic paste or diced garlic in olive oil, whatever tomato we could get, hot sauce of choice, some form of shredded cheese, and the whole box of pasta to fill up and for left overs later. I appreciate and cook better these days, but at that age, my cooking was not pretty.
I preordered the book back in october, and it will arrive around my birthday in april, so yeah, I got myself a sweet 18 birthday gift without knowing when it will arrive😂
Recipes are great! Love it… what I really need though is a Shopping guide. Cause every time I go to the store I want to come away with everything I need to make meals like this all week.
Cherry tomato paste is both incredible easy to cook and absolutely delicious. Between the tomatoes and fresh basil, it's like eating a garden. Highly recommend.
I have been making Pasta like this for years now and it is delicious 😁 I usually use parsley instead of basil though And I add fried bacon, onion and sometimes mushrooms too
I found this video two days ago and I’ve made it three times since then 😅 SO GOOD!!! And super easy. If you’re looking for something simple and easy THIS IS IT!!
His caricatures were so sweet and funny! 🥰 Although I got the recipe the first time. I watched the video like three times to see the cartoons over and over again!
You have made this recipe before and I have made it for my bf and friends 2-3 times. We love it! (And it makes me feel like I can cook lol😂). Planning on getting your book soon 😉.
Quick question, what’s the process of the tomatoes actually releasing the juices? I tried and all of them would burst and the juice would just boil down into nothing, I tried different pans and also lowering the heat
@@ashlleyyy you actually need quite a lot of them since they are cherry tomatoes and you only gonna get that amount of juice. What I do is getting them into a pan after the oil with the garlic and onions is heated enough and i close the pan with a lid. I have it on high heat and I check every so often, pinching with the fork. Some will melt fast some will not, so I burst them with the fork. When every single one of them is bursted you are done and you can continue with the rest of the recipe. I think using a lid at the beginning is helpful. What you get is the juice and the skin of the tomatoes. The texture isnt quite like the tomato sauce we are used to have btw, like the ones from the can for example. I hope my comment helped you😊.
For people who can’t afford cherry tomatoes, you can buy canned diced tomatoes instead. This recipe is actually called Al Arrabbiata and it’s a famous Italian dish
if you continue the national dish series you should do Spain, our national dish I would say is croquetas, and it's literally so good. Theres nothing in this world like the croquetas your grandma makes, we usually make them of chicken, spanish ham or roasted meat... Please do it
In national dishes, you could try one called "Pastel de Choclo" it's from Chile 🇨🇱 It means "Cake of Corn" Containing meat, chicken, olives, sometimes cheese and is usually baked in clay dishes uwu
I stumbled across this recipe a wek ago. Made thw pasta today and now seriously need to make it again. This was so good and feeling and affordable. Thank you!
I bought kwooks book off Amazon :D I love that it's very friendly towards people who don't have time to be in the kitchen for 3+ hours a day. It's simple enough stuff that's it's not too intimidating for me to try
Optional step if you want a diffrent consistency is to toss the sauce into a blender before you add your pasta and you’ll get a much more traditional sauce consistency
For those who had a hard time compromising on some of these ingredients due to the price here r sum tips: - Cherry tomatoes are expensive as well where I'm from, just use a normal tomato and cut them up into bite sizes, but they'll produce a lot more juices so when u add pasta water just use half than usual - for the olive oil, although for pasta it's a must, but hey we just need food lmao, so use any cooking oil that does not consist strong fragrant nor taste, for example like palm oil - for the Basil leaves just use the dried ones in any local convenience store, or just like he said, steal em from a neighbor or smt lmao - For cheese of course the most appropriate choice for pasta is parmesan, but as a college student shit is expensive as hell, so just pick whatever the cheapest, just use any cheese for example like white cheddar, dry em up for a while for it to be similar like parmesan dry em up for a but and then grate em. I know these kind of tips doesn't make this dish not that authentic anymore, but hey we gotta eat smn fine dining style once in a while, Hope it helps and greatest luck for any college kids out there
Guys I tried this (yes it was expensive with the price of cherry tomatoes) but it was really yummy! Probably the best pasta I’ve had, it tasted fresh and flavourful .
Thanks for the recipe, my parents were away so I had to cook dinner and I wanted to make pasta but was like meh only pasta is boring... Then I remembered this video and thought yea let's try it why not, I didn't had the exact ingriedients but I made something up and it was super delicious. Now my parents also came home and they also just love it. Thanks a lot ❤
