This 2 in 1 sharpener is the single best tool I’ve bought for my chainsaw. I’ve used it for a few years now, and wonder how I ever did without one before! Especially when I’m out in the woods on a job. I would never be without one! The tool is absolutely priceless!

I bought one of these when they first came out. Been running saws for firewood since early high school ( I'm 68 now) and this in my opinion is the best sharpener ever devised. I sharpen after each load is cut and maybe a fast touch up during the day. My chains always cut well!

I carry a yellow paint pen to mark the first tooth that I sharpen since most of the factory markings wear off after a few trees. Also I took a black sharpie and darkened the markings on the sharpener to make them stand out a bit more, and I painted the housing on my other sharpner to let me know the file size without having to pick it up and read the fine print. Those sharpeners are awesome
@TKCL

I own the same stihl file for my farm boss and love it. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it if you are new to it and especially with a new chain the first few times you sharpen it. Biggest tip and what helps the most is if you can put the bar into a vice to hold it so you can use both hands on the file. If not then try to get someone to hold the chainsaw steady for you while you sharpen the chain. And also like you said to make sure you put some downward pressure while filing. They really dumbed it down to take all the guess work out of it. It always suprises me when i hear about how people hate the sharpner and can't get it to work right. But then again i know purple that have put the chain on backwards and wondered why it wouldn't cut....
@TKCL
@TKCL Год назад
LOL can't say I haven't accidentally put it on backwards before. But I know immediately what went wrong.

My previous saw was a Stihl 044 and it delivered excellent service for many years. My new replacement saw is a Husqvarna 572 XP with a 24" bar. I had purchased one of the Forester manual sharpeners with the carbide twist file and got fair results. I didn't like the set up each time I had to sharpen the saw so I began to look for an alternative method and it was then I ran across your You Tube channel. I purchased the Stihl 2-N-1 file system and have been very well pleased. It's an awesome chain file that will bring the chain back to new condition.

I'm just about a novice with chainsaws and mostly use electric ones. I picked up one of these sharpeners a few months ago, and since then have been asked twice how I keep my chains so sharp. The 3/8 Pico likely the one you'll need for most electric saws. Great video here. Liked and subscribed.

Nice video, thanks. I'm retired now, but for about 40 years, in my family tree service, we sharpened our chains every morning before heading out. We used a round file once around and came back with s flat file to knock down the guides. These 2 in 1 tools are nice, but I think I'm faster with the old method of sharpening, Recently I bought a Stihl MSA 120 C electric chainsaw (it's small) and my chain is a 1/4" STIHL PICCO. I bought one of these 2 in 1 sharpeners geared for that chain. To hold the saw while i sharpen it, i clamp it in a Yost 455 bench vise that I bolted to the rear step-up bumper of my golf chart - since the golf cart is near me when I'm cutting trees/limbs. Your video clearly shows which way to set the 2 in 1 tool on the chain, with the tool being small, I had to look carefully, but its turned out to be more of a "feel" technique. I paint the top of my starting tooth with a black magic marker. Also, got to keep it out of the dirt.
@utetopia1620
@utetopia1620 Год назад
Great video. I've also got one of these, and the guy at my Stihl shop said these are idiot proof, and I managed to work it out, it's that simple! I'm an intermediate chainsaw user... I know enough to get by, and nowhere near at your level... But a couple of my own tips to pass on - 1: instead of replacing the files, just rotate them in the sharpener by 90⁰ before you use it each time, so that all faces of the files get worn and used. 2: You don't need to mark your starter tooth. You'll find most chains have a "double link". That is, two teeth in a row that face the same way. I was blown away when I was told, and when I checked mine, sure enough, there was that double link. They're the teeth I start at.

For beginners/homeowners this is useful, also remember after using your saw for a period of time the chain gets hot so it expands when it cools it contracts so to save the chain from stretching loosen the two guard bolts a little and loosen the chain tensioner until there is a slight belly on the chain and remember to tighten back up before sawing again this will absolutely save your chains life span. Great video and an awesome tool, Sharp Chain Lives Matter

Great tool, I bought one of these a few years ago and have been on the same chain for three years now. I bought the tool from my local Co-Op and it was cheaper than online retailers (especially with shipping). I never got it right before this innovation and I can now touch a chain up if I inadvertently ground a chain while working in the field. I ended up buying two; one for my field bag and one for my bench. I pre-emptively purchased files so I won't have to look for them when I need them. Two sharpening sessions pay for this sharpening device.

Just spent a day with the .325 file and also a 3/8P file. Sharpening 20 chains for my 028AV Super and 021. If you have a newer chain on your first sharpening it may take a little adjustment for this round file seating properly on the groove of the chisels. Once your chisels become accustomed to the file angle and groove it works better in succeeding times, almost a few minutes per chain. If you have chains that have already been sharpened and used in prior work this file works the best.

I have used a Stihl 2 in 1 sharpener for over 7 years. In fact I wore one out and bought a new one earlier this year. Works great. If I haven't hit anything I hit every tooth with 3 strokes every time I refuel the saw. If I have hit a rock or something then at least six strokes and perhaps more. I also start on the green or yellow colored link, but the color wears off after a while and I keep a black marker to mark the starting tooth. I have tried to identify my starting point by a shiny freshly cur tooth, but will try the suggestion on the top of the raker. Highly recommend.

@@TKCL After sharpening you can't see the difference from the brand new chain unless if you look really close and see new shiny metal. I guess that's the best invention for chainsaw since the chainsaw was invented by Andreas Stihl... The best spent 35€ x2 in my life...

11 bucks here for a sharpening. These pay for themselves quickly.

Great video. I like that you used your tailgate for demonstration. I watched other videos and they used a vise in a shop. That shit ain't practical. I just got that tool and will be using it very soon.

I never clamp it, touch up in field is what's often needed.

The pitch is the center distance between three rivets divided by 2 so 3/8 pitch would measure 3/4”

You don't need to lift the tool after a pass. Pull it back with no pressure, will save you a bit of time. Probably easier with two hands though.

The mark on the tooth also shows the angle to file the tooth

Correct and is also referred to as a wear marker by Stihl
