Thank you for a very good tutorial.. So simple to follow.. Had a lot of kalanchoe cuttings got rotten cuz I don’t know what to do, now I’ll try to save what’s left.. Glad that I found your channel..
@@GardeningUpbeat ....I watched lot of Malayalam video on this plant but none of it cleared my doubt...I want to know whether it will bloom only in December....
Thank you so much for your feedback, appreciated 🙂 We can plant directly n we can also left to callous. 2n option is better as that way less chance of rotting. All the best 👍
Best thing of these plants is that the flowers remain fresh on plant for very very long time, as compared to many other flowering plants. Great looking small bushes n bunch of flowers.
Great and informative video! I planted about 20 leaves last spring, and they all have great roots but there is not sign of plant growth on any of them. How long does it usually take to see plant starts?
Great video! My Trader Joes calaveras Kalanchoe sold at Halloween in Northern California contracted fungus/mildew after I left it in some Northern California rain for only two days. Now I only have one leaf. Wish me luck!
Hello, thank you for this helpful video, very clear on how to save our plants. Just one question though: do we water them (spray water on them) everyday?
Sorry for the late reply..No, please don't do that or else they would rot. You can do one thing - water thoroughly first time. After that wait and let the complete media dry out (even if it is 80-100% dry, there won't be any issue). Then water again well. Repeat the same cycle until they don't produce new growths. Once you are able to see new growths, you can slowly increase watering frequency. But then again, please note that they are succulent. So, need water very less frequently. All the best!
Thanks for the video. What do you do with the struggling plant after you have cut off its stems to propagate? I have the same case and i cant bring myself to just throw it away :(. Can the plant and its remaining parts (that are mostly brown) regain their health?
I have only a small cutting left of my kalanchoe and I'm desperately trying to grow it again. It was a gift given to me by my mother years ago and she's now passed so it means a lot to me. Sadly I think I'm losing the plant. Although I can see some tiny white roots growing so I'm trying to stay positive. But it's such a tiny cutting I worry it won't grow..
@Mary Frances, Sorry for the late reply :-( We can water on the leaves, no issue. When to water - Since they are succulent, watering once in 7-10 days is enough...Ideally, we should let all the soil almost dry out before watering again or else the cuttings might rot. Hope I answered your question and thank you so much for your feedback, much appreciated :-)
Thank you for such a great video. I will be trying this myself. I really hope it works. 🙏🏻🤞💖 QUESTION: My plant is in a 3.5” pot and there are roots around the edges of the pot. I hope there is a way to repot without me killing this beautiful plant. Do you have any videos on repotting these? I will look myself but I am concerned that I may miss it. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos.🌸💖🙏🏻
Wow thank you so much! Someone gave me a kolonchoe as a birthday gift from the last 15/4 and i really didn't take good care of it, im not sure if it died or if watering it will help it reproduce more leaves and bloom later so can you help me?
@Idah0000 11, Most welcome and thank you very much for your feedback, appreciate it. Kolonchoe blooms only when the nighttime is longer than daytime. In most cases, they stop blooming from the end of March. Please also note that, Kolonchoe is a succulent and so we need to be very very careful while watering. I have a detailed video about Kolonchoe care and you can watch it here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-an1WXNevnDA.html Plz let me know if you have any questions and I would get back ASAP, thank you :-)
I have a Kalanchoe which my daughter bought me as a birthday gift quite a few years ago, I keep it as a houseplant and it has got very leggy so I was wondering what I could do to keep it going, thank you so much for the tip on the honey as a rooting hormone, I'm going to propagate using your instructions. It's the month of July here in the UK so will do the cuttings around end Sept/Oct, I've subscribed to your channel so will be going to see what else I can learn from you, thanks again and stay safe
I received one of these for an Christmas gift. It’s still in a temporary plastic pot. Can I transplant it into a sealed bottom pot using normal potting soil? Thanks
@Oksana Koval, Thank you So So much for the feedback, much appreciated :-) Sure, we can use honey instead of rooting hormone powder for other plants too :-)
@@GardeningUpbeat wow, I didn't know that and I bought rooting powder last Saturday for almost $15.oo. thanks for sharing and thanks to the viewer for asking. Stay safe
Hello, thank you so much for making this video! I dipped honey on my kalanchoe cuttings yesterday and placed it back into the soil. However, today I noticed that there are ants coming from inside the soil, at the top and the bottom of the soil. Please help! What should I do?
Thank you for this video! Just got one as a git and it looks so leggy right now...hopefully I'll be able to fix that. Is it comparable to jade plants propagation?
I love your videos because they are to the point and very informative. It is said that kalanchoe pinnata is good to remove kidney stone (that is way it is called pathar-chat, stone-licker). Is it known for this property in India ?
Great video! Thank you very much! Did you deep it in honey? I just have crystalized honey at home... From Costco... If I use it, do you think it would work? Thanks again for the great video!
@Criss Martinez, Glad you liked it and thank you very much for your words, much appreciated! Yes, I dipped them in the honey. Even if you are using crystalized honey, there is no any issue. You can easily melt them and there are 2 easy procedures - [And these are from tipnut.com/crystallized-honey/ ] (heat gently to avoid damaging the honey) 1. Place jar in a pot of warm water, set heat to medium-low and stir until crystals dissolve. You can also place the jar in a pot of hot water and leave it alone until it liquefies (not resting on heated element). 2. Quick Fix: You could also heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir well, allow to cool for 20 seconds then heat again for 30 seconds (if there are still granules needing to be dissolved). Stir again and cool as noted before reheating (if required). I hope that helps and if you have any questions, please let me know. Good luck :-)
@@GardeningUpbeat Wow! You are so helpful! Thanks so much for your advice! I really appreciate it! Plants are my therapy during these times of pandemic. I am definitely learning a lot from you. I will continue watching your videos! Cheers from Quebec, Canada! Take care and stay safe!
Sir, in what period of time will the Kalanchoe plant start to grow if propagated from leaves?? I propagated the leaves a year ago, roots have also formed nicely but it hasn't started to grow yet. Pls reply...
Thk u for sharing this info, I've just today bought a nice Kalanchoe plant with buds and flowers on it. My doubt here is, since it is in a small pot do I need to transplant in into a bigger pot. Pls advise. Thks.
@Flavia Chauhan, Most welcome and thank you very much for the feedback, appreciate it :-) Since it already has buds and flowers, it's not going to produce similar buds in the same season as they bloom mostly once in a season. Once all buds are bloomed, it's almost going to stop producing new buds again. But sometimes, they do..but not like first time. So, it's okay even if you don't repot into a bigger pot. But if you want to keep the plant for next year and want it it grow much better, then you can repot :-) Good luck :-) Here I have a complete detailed video on Kalanchoe - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-an1WXNevnDA.html
I have 2 yrs old plant.. I see in the first year it bloomed nicely, but there were less flowers in next year. Do I need to propagate new plants or leave them as such for the next season.?
@Nura Shahid, Thank you for your feedback, appreciate it :-) It depends on your plant actually..if it already has buds, then definitely you can keep indoor in bright light and it's going to complete it's blooming cycle. But if the plant is really small at this stage, then it would be difficult. If possible, plz keep outside and when you see the buds, bring it indoor if you like. Anyway, at the blooming time, direct sunlight is not preferred as they burn the flower petals. I have discussed everything in my second video with updates and if you like, you can watch it here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-an1WXNevnDA.html
@@GardeningUpbeat The plant is at it's early stage actually, so I will grow it outdoor as you said and follow the instructions likewise. Thank you for the reply! Really appreciate it and I will definitely check the video out. Stay safe.
Brother i brought 2 plants yesterday as first plant potting mix was a success. While purchasing i didnt notice they were in red soil instead of cocopeat. So while repotting them i had to remove the red soil through water. One of the plants root was rotten so i have applied SAAF over there and repotted it separately in small pot. or do i need to take it out cut it and apply SAAF so that it roots develop ? Or do i need to cut it and apply SAAF and hang it for 3-4 days like adenium? Or any other thing which i shud do ? Just in case i have to cut it can i give humic acid mix water for roots development?
Hi, great video. Hope to follow your method to propagate my plant. Btw, I have 2 questions: 1) Should the cuttings and leaves be left to callous 1st before planting 2) How often should the cuttings be watered, ie should the soil be moist always
Callousness is always advised for succulents (that I'm aware of). I always propagate eith dry mix for 2 weeks and check if tlany roots started. Only then do I give a little spray of water. Every week and mostly.100% success. I live in a dry climate in canada. I do itnin north window so excess moisture won't evaporate..and nor should you put cuttings in bright light. I haven't don't kalanchoe though and am callousing today and will probably plant tomorrow.
Hi would like to ask tips, my kalanchoe has falling leaves and the flowers went down after 2weeks of repotting it. Can you also give me some tips on how to make them blooming, please Thanks you
@Rajalakshmi Mohan, Only when top 1 inch or more soil is absolutely dry (if doubt, you can simply dip your finger 1 inch into the soil and see if it's completely dry)...They are succulent and if you use similar soil mixture like mine, it would be fine even if you water once in 7-10 days. Please let me know if you have any doubt, thank you :-)
@Tameka Hill, Honestly saying, not much and I just use either plain water and soil. I am going to upload videos about propagating many plants very soon.
@CARLINO GONZALEZ PEREGO, Glad you liked it and thank you very much for the feedback...From leaf, it's take time to get a new plant and it would depend on lots of other factors. But still, we can assume it would take around 80-100 days. I have shown the stems from the leaves here on this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-an1WXNevnDA.html (Just sharing here in case you want to see how they look)
My Kolonchoe is very tall now, I didn't know which type it was and that it had be pruned. It's about a foot tall now. How should I cut it down to repot? It's too tall to stand on it's own and it hasn't flowered in about a year so I must be doing something wrong! Do you have any advice?
@Nathalie Paez, If plant is not blooming, there could be 3 main issues - 1. Not getting enough direct sunlight. We can keep Kolonchoe indoor once it has already produced the buds. To reach that stage, it's better if we provide our plants direct sunlight. I already have a complete details video on Kolonchoe and you can watch it if you like - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-an1WXNevnDA.html 2. Lack of fertilizer 3. Most probably plant is getting more water. Kolonchoe is a succulent and so doesn't need water frequently Definitely you can prune your plant and you can do it anyway if you like. Fore example, you can just make the plant into half and use the cut part to grow more plants. You can even prune more and make it 1/3 of it's current height. It's a succulent and wouldn't die because of hard pruning. I do the same thing with my Hibiscus and if you want some pruning ideas, you can watch my video about Pruning Hibiscus - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XD4AhCVTSRo.html I know Hibiscus is not a succulent but sharing here so that you can get some ideas. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for watching the video :-)
