I just got the Moisture Meter... Wow, my plants are much wetter underneath the top layer than I thought. You made some Plants much happier for the future....
Your advice on de-chlorinating water is spot on! I have a water conditioner system and thought that would take care of everything. NOT! I've only been using treated water for about a month, and I can't believe the difference. My fern, hoya and peace lily have all really perked up, and my orchids are all putting out new roots and flower spikes. Thanks is too small a word but its the best one I have. I LOVE this channel.
I'm a fellow de-chlorinator, but some of what youre seeing is probably just time of year too - happy plants in springtime like to shoot out new growth!
Love your Channel! I’m a new plant parent with 10+ types of house plants and I’ve had a blast! Your channel has given me so much knowledge! I’ve also been browsing your Amazon store. I love your content and how comical you are with everything. Never stop this channel! 😂
In the US most people have dry electric heat instead of radiators (unless you live in a big city/older house or apartment). We still have the same loss of humidity in the winter though. It can be frustrating.
Browning/yellowing leaves is my biggest peeve, too!! My Anthurium Luxurians x Radicans blessed me with a new leaf after re-potting, but I couldn’t stop the browning of the existing leaves that started after I brought it home. We might have to start over soon 😅
I’ve got an Anthurium that just seemed to murder its own red leaves. I repotted it and notice some squishy roots. Now it’s put up 2 new leaves (just started growing) after THREE MONTHS 😂 little diva
Thank you for the tip of using Stress Coat. Totally killed a Peace Lilly with my tap water. New Peace Lilly is thriving using water treated with Stress Coat! I think my Bonnie Spider Plant benefits too. Moisture meter? No idea how any plant parent cares for their collection without one! TFS, AllisonLP
always love your videos, hope i can see the the plants that go dormant and what to do. I like a house we sense of humor like yours.Life is hard ,and having humor make your life beter i mean all of us life. Thank you for or all your lessson All the best to ypu and your family.Lili
I have a question. I recently potted up some pothos that had wonderful roots from water propagation. All the propagations were very green and healthy looking. But within a week’s time I’ve had many of the leaves turn yellow. I gave it a good drink when I potted it up as I didn’t want it to go into shock from being wet all the time to dry. And I’ve been checking the soil with the same trusty moisture meter as you have, got it from your Amazon store. The soil I used was fresh out of the bad miracle grow all purpose. And it’s sitting next to a window with bright indirect sun. What did I do wrong? The cuttings were a gift and I really want this to survive.
@@Alwaysherethere I’ve been monitoring it with the meter. It’s been staying moist and then will get to the almost dry part so then I add in some more water trying to keep the soil consistently in the medium moist end
The leaves you showed 100% confirmed my suspicions that my plants were nutrient deficient. Ty for the advice for treating tap water! Ordered off Amazon before the video was over lol.
Your Calathea zebrina is looking amazing. Mine became too large too cope with so I divided it up. I felt a little bit guilty but it was difficult to keep track of each leaf.
I have a lot of Tropical plants growing out of my aquarium. Which is really a great self sustained ecosystem. Fish provide fertilizer, the warm water evaporation provides decent humidity. I have to add 2-3 gallons a week. Anyway I have one adansonii plant that is really struggling. Very leggy, yellow leaves. I think I have too many plants in the tank, so I added more fish to give the plants more nitrogen. Anyway I always enjoy your videos, I always learn something.
My philodendron needs helps sometimes, i tend to clip the 'casing' once a new leaf starts to come out of the stock. That or ill gradually pull it open. Buddys got 5 new stocks growing since doing it
My ficus Ruby has the same symptons - brown leaves, tiny new leaves... I don't know what I'm doing wrong. the funny thing is that it's in the same spot as the other ficus (benjamin and the ficus elastica with dark green leaves). I bought them more or less at the same time, the last one -elastica- is double the size of the ruby 😭and the ruby is also not that ruby anymore, its pink faded a bit.. I'm watering them at the same time, after checking with the moisture meter , I fertilize the plants.. I will check the roots again but I think ther're still have enough space. I hope the new season will give a boost to the ruby. thanks for all the suggestions!🔝🔝
Hi Richard! Is your last name Sheffield or your RU-vid handle because you live in Sheffield? Also, do you buy plants to show us the problems like in this video? I find it hard to believe you over water but you show great examples that are very helpful. Love your channel, humor and expertise! Keep growing🪴
Well Mr. Sheffield, I broke down and ordered one of your Sansi grow lights you’ve been boasting about. I just received it today. My house doesn’t have lots of windows with great lighting. After watching a ton of your videos I was convinced to try it out. Is there a recommended distance to keep the bulb from the plant itself? The majority of my plants are on the smaller size. I’m another one that can’t afford to buy big plants. And like you said, the fun is nurturing them and watching them grow, well, if I can keep them alive long enough to grow that is. 😅
chloramine is a big problem - it cannot be fully removed by boiling, unlike chlorine. Best to run it through an activated charcoal filter like Brita if you are serious about removing all of it. Or just gather rain water. Or use the water from a dehumidifier
Brita is actually being sued right now for lying about how well/much their system actually filters the water. I stopped using Brita filters after learning that and started using aquarium water conditioner. It has made a massive difference in many of my plants. The Brita definitely wasn't doing its job.
Jeez only 2 months old. I didn't even know you then. lol Yet all the advice, it seems longer. Thanks for the great attitude with me. My problem is I have already watched so many of your videos I can't remember which ones contain what information. That is why I panic and need fast help. Also, I just did not comment when I was shopping for my plant wizard but I did hit that THUMBS UP button just so ya know. Peace.
I have killed two Money Tree Plants (Guiana chestnut, Malabar chestnut), much to the horror of my manicurist & the entire nail salon. Tried as I could, the leaves turned brown and it was Adios Muchacho! I am afraid to bring anymore Money Tree bad luck into the household, so no more I suppose. I sure do like Money Trees though :(.
😊 thank you for the great video. I hate those brown tips on the leaves too. I have an orchid that has this honey like sticky stuff on the underside of the leaves. Is this a pest? What am i doing wrong. A friend gave them to me and I want to keep them happy.
@@SheffieldMadePlants oh no! I don’t have any pests right now. I think I will put him in another room. I don’t see any scale but I will look again. Thank you for responding. I love your videos and learn so much from you.
Hello brother, I have the problem you mentioned first, hard tap water. My plants don't grow, yellowing leaves and brown tips. I live in appartement no other water source than buying water bottles. If I treat my tap water, should I change the soil mixture and repot every plants or continuously put ttrated water in same soil?
Have you got any Pothos you’ve trained to climb? Seen a few pics online of mature golden Pothos in nature(either in their natural environment or as invasives) and I was AMAZED at how huge they can get! Climbing up 3m trees with monstera-sized leaves. I’ve never seen anyone try to grow the biggest possible indoor Pothos though! Have you seen any?
How much stress coat do you put in per watering can? Obviously the bottle tells you the ratio for 35L and so I’ve just been putting a drop in but I’ve not noticed a huge difference 😅
I’ve heard from a few planty creators you cannot trust moisture meters. I have one and I will say it’s not always accurate compared to my finger testing, but the problem with using my finger is I second guess. 🤭
I double check mine with a chopstick or skewer. When I get the same results with both, I know exactly how much water my plants have. The meter works best on a non chunky soil like Molly's aroid mix, which is a very chunky soiless mix.
Have you ever heard of "Mosquito Bits?" I bought some for mosquitos but it states I can mix it into my potting soil and say goodbye to fungus gnats in my indoor plants for good? I hate fungus gnats so much, but I fear harming my plants. I've become rather attached to them, you know!
Not me sitting here with the majority of my plants sitting above the radiator...It's not optional as the radiator is under the window and that's the best spot for most of my plants
9:38 Didn't know plants have private parts. 😄 10:10 ⚠️☣️☠️Aglaonema plants may cause skin irritation due to the calcium oxalate crystals in the leaves.
